Chapter 69

Chapter 69

He Nianqing looked around and his gaze stopped on a table in front of him.

"I saw our English teacher."

He Hai and Tan Xian'er heard it and followed their daughter's gaze, and saw two women sitting there.

"That's the one in the black skirt." He Nianqing nodded slightly towards Zhu Yan. "She's amazing! Beautiful and capable. She even took a postgraduate degree in a different major and is currently pursuing a doctorate."

He Nianqing's dream is to be such a girl, smart, wise, and always working hard for what she pursues.

Thinking to herself, He Nianqing saw her brother looking down at his phone, not interested in what she was saying at all. She suddenly remembered something and craned her neck, as if she had discovered something extraordinary.

"Brother, this teacher is also from our school. I heard that he is in the same class as you."

"I wonder if it's a classmate you know."

When He Yanqing heard his sister say this, he was surprised. He turned around and recognized the blue figure at a glance. The expression in his eyes fluctuated. His eyes were like a lake, reflecting the color of the clear sky.

As for the English teacher that He Nianqing mentioned, he vaguely remembered it was Zhu Yan.

They were far apart, with some pillars blocking the view, so one could only vaguely make out the people in the distance.

This slight change did not escape He Nianqing's eyes. She stared at He Yanqing and asked curiously, "Brother, do you know him?"

He Yanqing glanced at He Nianqing, who was enjoying the conversation, and replied, "Yeah."

He Nianqing glanced at Zhu Yan over there, then at her elder brother sitting opposite her, and she imagined the relationship between the two in her mind.

She knew her older brother had a girlfriend in college, but they broke up within three months. She guessed that maybe it was because of her that he never had another girlfriend.

Tan Xian'er noticed their conversation. She also knew that her son's ex-girlfriend was a classmate in college. Now that a female classmate appeared, she smelled something unusual.

"Yan Qing, is Nian Nian's teacher your classmate?"

Tan Xian'er's question had another hidden meaning. She looked at the two girls opposite her with great interest. From her side, she could clearly see Zhu Yan's face, but not Song Xianle's. She could only roughly see her profile.

Although I couldn't see the face of one girl, I could tell they were all pretty girls just by looking at their backs.

He Nianqing and He Hai, who were standing by, heard the key point and quickly pricked up their ears to listen. Two pairs of almost identical eyes were looking at He Yanqing.

He Yanqing naturally understood what Tan Xian'er meant and said helplessly, "Mom, she's not my ex-girlfriend."

Now, the family talked about He Nianqing’s campus life and He Yanqing’s emotional life.

Hearing this, Tan Xian'er sighed and said worriedly, "You finally got a girlfriend, but your father and I broke up before we even met her. Until now, we still don't know what kind of girl you like."

Speaking of this, He Hai remembered that last weekend Tan Xianer took him to the blind date corner, hoping to find a girl that matched his son, but after looking around, the two found that they didn't know what type of girl his son liked.

"Son, what kind do you like? Your Aunt Huang Jiao has a daughter who I heard just came back from abroad. She's about your age. How about..." Tan Xian'er said excitedly, but He Yanqing interrupted her, "Mom, I take care of my own business. Please don't ask me to disturb Aunt Huang's daughter."

He Yanqing glanced at He Nianqing, wanting her to help end the topic.

He Nianqing understood immediately, and she said, "Mom, my brother is focusing on his career now. He's not even thirty yet, so there's no need to rush."

Tan Xianer: "It's a good time to date now and get married in a few years. By then he will be in his thirties."

"Besides, your Aunt Huang's daughter is pretty and has a good personality. It's okay to meet her as a friend. We don't have to be boyfriend and girlfriend..."

Seeing that Tan Xian'er was determined to find a partner for He Yanqing, He Nianqing could only help him for a while. She put on an expression that showed she had done her best and spread her hands to He Yanqing.

He Yanqing saw that Tan Xian'er was about to continue speaking, so he sent a message to He Nianqing: [Sister, the old rules apply.]

He Yanqing looked at He Nianqing and called her, "Sister." Then he pointed at his phone, motioning her to read the message.

When He Nianqing heard the word "sister", she immediately became happy.

Every time He Yanqing asked for something, he would call her sister, and not only that, he would also bribe her with large sums of money.

This is their little secret.

He Nianqing knew what He Yanqing was asking, so she quickly called out "Mom," and then started to talk nonsense about her feelings, saying that she liked a boy, but he didn't like her...

There was a hint of shock in He Yanqing's pupils for a moment, and then he returned to his original expression.

His sister can make up anything.

When Tan Xian'er heard this, she immediately changed direction, asked a few questions about the man's character, and finally talked about her secret to pursuing a husband.

Although He Hai had heard Tan Xian'er tell her daughter about this many times, he still felt embarrassed about it. After all, it was the history of his and Tan Xian'er's love affair. The child was so old now, and his old face was slightly red.

He reminded her subtly from the side and interjected a few words from time to time, trying to stop Tan Xian'er from speaking any further.

It was the first time that He Yanqing heard Tan Xian'er talk about her past with her father, and he listened carefully from the side.

Tan Xian'er ignored him and continued to share with her daughter, "Come to think of it, your father was quite aloof back then. I went to great lengths to arrange for chance encounters with him so that he would feel that he and I were destined to be together, a fate arranged by heaven, so that he would firmly believe in his heart that we were meant to be. Nian Nian, you should create more chance encounters, meet more often, and have more contact, but don't rush things, as it can easily scare people away."

"After I got to know your father, I often wrote him letters. These letters shouldn't be written casually, just like your Moments, they can't be posted casually. These are ways to show your side of yourself, so you should use them well. I don't write often, though, and my letters are usually shorter than his. Men need to be attracted, so girls shouldn't be too proactive. It's better to be reserved."

Speaking of Moments, He Yanqing had just opened WeChat and saw her profile picture in the Moments column, so he clicked on it. He saw that Song Xianle had posted a picture of Liaokai University and a rare selfie.

In the photo, she had her hair tied in a high ponytail and was pointing at Liaokai University nearby. Her eyes were curved like crescent moons, revealing a smile he had never seen before.

Song Xianle rarely posts on WeChat Moments. He has never seen a selfie of Song Xianle, nor has he ever seen her smile so gently, even a little cutely.

Everything changes after going abroad.

He Yanqing leaned sideways and glanced over there secretly. She saw Zhu Yan talking and laughing, but she had no idea what the person opposite her was like.

He still saw her back.

Dinner lasted almost two hours. He Hai and Tan Xian'er decided not to stay overnight at Liaokai. Thinking that their son had to work the next day, they asked him to go home first. The couple then sent He Nianqing back to school.

The family walked out. He Yanqing glanced at the seat where Song Xianle had just sat. The people sitting there had changed, and now there was a young couple.

It looks like she's gone.

He Yanqing drove around the street for a while, and half an hour later, he arrived at the gate of Liaokai University.

He stayed at the side of the school gate for a minute or two, then drove down the road. After a while, he saw Song Xianle, and Zhu Yan was no longer by her side.

After Song Xianle and Zhu Yan finished their meal, she had intended to take a taxi home. However, as she was leaving, she seemed to see He Yanqing's head. She made an excuse, saying she was going to the bathroom. Although she didn't see the man's face clearly on the way to the bathroom, she did catch a glimpse of the girl sitting across from him, who bore a resemblance to He Yanqing. Coming out of the bathroom, she vaguely heard a man call out the name "Yanqing."

After leaving Dianjian Restaurant, she said she wanted to take Zhu Yan to school.

But who knew that these words were wrong the moment they came out.

Because Zhu Yan doesn't live in school, and she has a boyfriend to pick her up.

Finally, Song Xianle decided to try her luck and arrived at Liaokai University alone. She didn't approach the school gate, but instead stopped by a nearby river. After waiting for over ten minutes, she only saw the girl she had met eyes with. She was flanked by two middle-aged men, presumably her parents, but she didn't see the man who "looked like" He Yanqing.

Did I make a mistake?

Song Xianle walked to the pavilion and sat for a while, looking around. He saw all kinds of people passing by the school gate. He saw the girl waving at her parents with a very bright smile. Song Xianle felt that the satisfaction, happiness and joy in the girl's smile were about to overflow.

Seeing the girl's smile, Song Xianle thought of He Yanqing's face and facial features that had been inactive for many years. He would occasionally show surprise and joy, but he would never laugh as heartily as that girl.

Song Xianle sat for about ten minutes, crossed the road, arrived at the school gate, then walked down the sidewalk to the east, preparing to take a taxi home.

"Beep---"

"Secretary Song."

Hearing the shrill whistle, Song Xianle frowned, and when he turned around, he heard He Yanqing's voice.

The black car slowly stopped in her direction. He Yanqing saw the woman's face clearly and saw that her expression changed from disbelief to regret and then happiness. Her emotions changed so much in just one minute.

Song Xianle calmed down and said with a smile, "Director He, what a coincidence."

He Yanqing didn't know if it was because the place was too small, or if it was really just a coincidence as she said. He vaguely heard what Tan Xian'er had said in the restaurant, and the word "chance encounter" popped into his mind, making him think of a question: Did Song Xianle see him in the restaurant?

He stared at the soft, fair face and saw the familiar wall behind her, as if bringing him back to the time four years ago when the two of them walked side by side.

The breath that was stuck in He Yanqing's heart dissipated instantly, clinging to the tips of leaves on the road, and rushing into the wall as the branches were bent by the wind, taking away the memories bit by bit and returning them to where they started.

He tilted his head slightly and looked at her, "Student Song Xianle, would you like to get in the car?"
