Chapter 215 Saving the Little Monster in the Apocalypse 6 - Encountering an Old Man and a Young Man

The same applies to the second room and all the way to the sixth room.

Mu Wenxi thought for a moment and decided that he would only feel at ease if he searched the entire six-story building. There was no one on the fifth floor, but a few rooms were relatively clean, suggesting that someone had stayed there not long ago.

When they reached the sixth floor, Mu Wenxi slowed down because she seemed to hear other noises. Qin Lun also looked towards the source of the sound; he was more perceptive than Mu Wenxi.

Mu Wenxi pulled out a watermelon knife and began searching from the first room to the fifth, but no one was there. She stood in front of the sixth room, raised her hand and knocked on the door: "Should you come out yourselves, or should I come in?"

The door slowly opened, and a small head peeked out, but quickly withdrew. A voice came from inside: "Are you human?"

Mu Wenxi: "Of course I am a person. I came from somewhere else and found this place deserted."

The door opened, revealing an elderly man in his fifties or sixties and a young boy.

Mu Wenxi: "Hello."

The old man looked at Mu Wenxi with some suspicion: "Which city are you from? Why are you so clean?"

Mu Wenxi: "I came from the city closest to here, and luckily I found a place to take a bath."

The old lady peeked out, looked around, opened the door, and stepped aside: "Come in and talk."

The room was clearly very clean, with the curtains drawn tightly, only one candle still burning, and a telescope set up by the window.

The little boy exclaimed in surprise when he saw Qin Lun on Mu Wenxi's shoulder, "So handsome!"

Qin Lun glanced at him and jumped onto the table next to him.

The old woman shielded the little boy behind her, and Mu Wenxi said, "Don't be afraid, he won't hurt anyone."

Mu Wenxi was curious how the old man and the young man, who clearly had no fighting ability, could have survived for so long. She asked, "How long have you two been here?"

Grandma: "Two years."

Mu Wenxi: "When the end times came, you never went out."

The old lady nodded.

Mu Wenxi looked around and found there was nothing to eat: "Then what do you usually eat?"

The little boy said, "We eat everything. We avoid the zombies and go out to find food. Sometimes it takes us several days to find something, and sometimes we can find a lot in a day."

Mu Wenxi took out the canned food and snacks she had found earlier and handed them to the little boy: "Want some?"

The little boy's eyes lit up when he saw the cookies, and he immediately turned to his grandmother: "Grandma, can I have some?"

The old lady, somewhat helplessly, politely asked Mu Wenxi, "May I try some first?"

Mu Wenxi expressed his understanding: "Of course."

The old woman took the biscuits, her thin, bony hands trembling as she broke off a small piece and put it in her mouth. After chewing it, she broke off another small piece and gave it to the little boy, handing the rest to Mu Wenxi: "Thank you, young lady."

Mu Wenxi patted his backpack: "You guys keep them. I just found some more, and I was lucky."

The old lady took the cookies; she couldn't refuse because she and her grandson were very hungry.

Mu Wenxi: "If you don't mind, could you tell me what happened in this city? Where did everyone else go?"

The old woman sat on the bed and began to recall: "Two years ago, the apocalypse suddenly came. Some people suddenly mutated into zombies. At first, no one took it seriously, until more and more people mutated and everyone started to run away. I heard on the radio that there was a base and rescue in the Northeast..."

Mu Wenxi: "Northeast direction?"

The old woman nodded: "Many people went. Xiaoxing and I originally stayed at home. Xiaoxing's parents worked in another province, but after the apocalypse, I could only take Xiaoxing to hide. We two old, weak and disabled people could not go to the Northeast. If we went, we would probably have died on the road. Moreover, no one was willing to take us in at that time."

Xiao Xing was eating a cookie when she suddenly looked up at her grandma and said, "It's okay, I can protect you, Grandma."

Grandma: "Fortunately, Xiaoxing awakened his superpowers not long after, but we have been through a lot, so we decided to stay here and wait for a chance to get out and for the government to rescue us. This hotel was our temporary residence before. Many people left not long ago, leaving only us."

Mu Wenxi: "When I arrived, I found this place to be relatively safe. Have any zombies been here before?"

The old lady said, "As long as you don't make too much noise, they won't come over if they can't see you, but sometimes they will walk around every day in search of food."

Xiao Xing: "It's okay, Grandma, I'll beat them to death."

Mu Wenxi: "Have you thought about the future?"

The old lady shook her head: "What future? I'll live one day at a time. I just want to protect Xiaoxing, but my old bones are no good anymore."

Mu Wenxi stared at them for a while, and the more he looked, the more he felt that this old man and young man were like the two who later died protecting the original female lead.

She looked at Xiaoxing and asked, "Xiaoxing, what is your special ability?"

Xiao Xing glanced at her grandmother, and only after her grandmother nodded did she say, "My superpower is teleportation."

After confirming that the two people were indeed the old man and the young girl, Mu Wenxi felt that the world was somewhat absurd and laughable, as if everyone's life was as worthless as grass in the face of the original female lead's life.

She stood up, tossed out a sentence, and turned to leave: "I live downstairs from you. Call me if you need anything."

Mu Wenxi decided to choose a relatively clean room on the fifth floor, so that if any zombies climbed up, she would kill them first.

It seems that everyone forgot many things in their rush to escape. The water and electricity in the room were still working, but it was unknown how long they would last.

Mu Wenxi sighed, opened his backpack, and took out three cans of food, which he and Qin Lun ate together.

As night fell, Mu Wenxi looked through the curtains and saw that most of the zombies outside were still walking slowly. She felt relieved, knowing that dealing with these zombies wouldn't be difficult for her.

"Let's start preparing for the upgrade now."

Mu Wenxi poured all the crystal cores onto the ground, sorting them by color into three piles, with dozens of crystal cores at a glance, the yellow ones being the most numerous.

Mu Wenxi picked up the yellow crystal core and held it in her palm, using her supernatural power to envelop it. Soon, the crystal core turned into a pile of powder, and she could clearly feel her supernatural power flowing faster.

She continued to absorb them one by one. After absorbing the pile of yellow ones, she began to attack the orange ones. When she finished absorbing the first orange crystal core, she felt that the superpower in her body was about to overflow uncontrollably, as if she was about to advance.

She held another crystal core and let her superpower wash over her entire body. Soon she felt that her superpower was like a black hole, able to feel hunger, but the energy was still flowing in her body and could still be used by her. It seemed that she had upgraded to the second stage.
