Chapter 214 Saving the Little Monsters in the Apocalypse 5 - The Shabby Inn

Looking at the map, Mu Wenxi decided to go to the nearest city first. Since the red sedan was running low on gas, she saw a black SUV on the road and thought it looked cool, so she specially switched to it.

"How about this one?"

There was some sticky liquid on the back of the SUV, which looked like the bodily fluids of a zombie. There were no other traces. There were several other types of vehicles parked on the side of the road nearby. Could it be that they encountered zombies on the way?

Mu Wenxi picked up Qin Lun and placed him in the passenger seat of the SUV. Qin Lun, already accustomed to her scent, remained motionless.

The SUV was much more spacious inside than the sedan. Qin Lun stretched, yawned, and lay down. Mu Wenxi activated his special ability to speed up their journey to the neighboring city.

However, there weren't many zombies on the highway. As the car drove by, the zombies dodged and avoided it as if they hadn't seen it.

After entering the city, the number of zombies increased significantly. The surrounding environment resembled a city that had been empty and uninhabited for hundreds of years. Cars were parked haphazardly on the road, many with cracked windows and twisted doors.

The streets were deserted, and all the shops looked like they had been ransacked by bandits. The quiet was somewhat eerie. Mu Wenxi drove the car to an area with more buildings, and saw a large supermarket in the distance. She decided to walk there.

She bent down and scooped Qin Lun up: "Let's go see if we have any supplies."

Qin Lun snuggled against her. There were no zombies around, so to conserve her powers, Mu Wenxi shut down her assimilation abilities.

A girl dressed in black, looking quite tidy, seemed to be holding a cat in her arms. She looked rather strange in the post-apocalyptic world, but she didn't care at all, because there was no living person in sight.

She slowly walked into the supermarket. The lights on the top of the supermarket were broken, and the environment was somewhat dark. With the help of the light coming in through the windows, she could see that there were various shops on the first floor, but the counters had already been emptied and the cabinets below had been opened and ransacked.

Mu Wenxi looked around one by one, hoping to find some supplies. There were also some useless cosmetics hidden in the corners. Mu Wenxi put them into her space. Something is better than nothing.

Mu Wenxi: "It would be strange if they didn't scramble for the empty spaces; it's been two years since the apocalypse."

She went up to the second floor, where the price tags on the ceiling were swaying. The daily necessities section had long been sold out, but there was still an iron pot left in the corner. Mu Wenxi carried it on her back and grabbed a few flashlights from the appliance section.

The escalator leading to the third floor had stopped working, so Mu Wenxi could only take the stairs next to it. Once inside, there were some clothes, hats, and even backpacks at the entrance, which was quite complete. She found a large backpack and carried it on her back, and put the rest into her storage space.

I was wondering why there were still some things here, when I noticed some movement in the corner.

Mu Wenxi turned on her flashlight and saw two zombies attracted by the light. They were running at a human pace, their clothes were tattered, and they were a bit thin. When they saw Mu Wenxi, their eyes lit up. Mu Wenxi could see the hunger in their eyes. She put Qin Lun on her shoulder and said, "Be good, don't touch them, they're dirty."

With his other hand, he drew a watermelon knife from behind his back, and with a swift stroke, decapitated two zombies. He used the tip of the knife to pick out the orange crystal cores from their heads, then grabbed a towel from the shelf and wrapped them up: "Is this the thing that makes my powers stronger?"

Qin Lun, perched on his shoulder, roared at the zombie corpse, seemingly wanting to pounce on it.

Mu Wenxi: "Alright, alright, it's already dead. We can't eat this meat. Let's see if there's anything else good to eat later."

The two continued forward, and Mu Wenxi picked out some items to use and put them into his backpack: "Could it be that the supplies here are so complete because of those two zombies?"

At the end of the stairs, on the other side of the first floor, the food section, Mu Wenxi saw only empty shelves, some rotten vegetable leaves on the ground that looked dirty, and a smell of rotten seafood in the air.

Mu Wenxi covered Qin Lun's nose and walked out: "Let's go, let's go look at other places."

The two left the supermarket and began looting other shops. Every now and then, some slow-moving zombies on the street were beheaded by Mu Wenxi, who then picked out the crystal cores from their heads.

After an afternoon, Mu Wenxi's crystal cores had almost filled a backpack pocket.

"Are crystal nuclei categorized according to their capabilities? Currently, we have yellow, orange, and red crystal nuclei. We haven't encountered any other colors yet. Yellow and orange crystal nuclei are the most common."

A: "This city is a remote second-tier city. With the arrival of the apocalypse, we can't get rescue and supplies here. Most of the people who can escape have already rushed to other cities and bases, or they've died. There's no food here and there are relatively few zombies."

Mu Wenxi nodded: "I'll make do here for now. Tonight I'll see if I can upgrade my superpower. I'll go to another city in a few days. By the way, where are the original male and female protagonists of this world?"

A: "They are currently in the northeast direction."

Mu Wenxi curled his lips into a smile, and his hand more swiftly severed the head of a zombie: "Alright, wait for me to take my revenge."

Qin Lun gently patted Mu Wenxi's shoulder, carefully avoiding her hair.

Mu Wenxi searched along the street, store by store, and finally found some food in the back warehouse of a small supermarket, including canned goods, instant noodles, and even snacks.

Mu Wenxi took some and stuffed them into his backpack, while waving the rest of his hands to store them in his spatial storage. Qin Lun stared at the scene before him without any reaction, seemingly already used to it.

She scratched his chin: "Sweetie, I've put these things into my spatial storage. I'll let you in on a secret: I'm not from this world. I'm a little monster who came here specifically to save you. I don't know if you understand."

Qin Lun's green eyes were fixed on the distance, as if he hadn't heard anything.

Mu Wenxi turned left and right into a small alley. She saw a small, run-down hotel called "Jin Baodian" and decided to make do for the night. There was a roller shutter door outside the hotel. She pulled the roller shutter door closed, and there was a glass door inside.

Mu Wenxi pushed open the door and entered. The counter on the right was a bit messy, as if the shop owner had searched for something before fleeing. Mu Wenxi took down the large bunch of keys hanging under the counter, looked around and found nothing else usable, then walked towards the stairs inside. To the left were the kitchen and water dispenser, but the lights were off and they were unusable.

She went up to the second floor, wondering if there were any rooms available. But the stairwells on the second and third floors were piled with several corpses, and Mu Wenxi had no desire to go inside.

She went straight up to the fourth floor. The corridor on the fourth floor was relatively empty, with no corpses. She opened the first room door in order. The room was pitch black, with cobwebs in the corners, indicating that no one had lived there for a long time.
