There were still quite a few people in the cafeteria at nine o'clock.
Overtime is probably the norm in the R&D department. A group of men wearing black-rimmed glasses squeezed together, queuing up with their plates, their faces full of exhaustion from work.
However, Huo Yeshuo was an exception. Even with his body turned to the side and his face obscured, his tall and slender figure alone was enough to make him stand out in the crowd.
He held a plate in one hand and had the other hand in his pocket, his eyes slightly lowered, seemingly lost in thought.
Lin Zhenzhen picked up her plate and silently joined the last person in line.
She tilted her head slightly, looking at the back of Huo Yeshuo's head. Like the other girls present, her eyes were glued to him, never looking away.
He was really tall, at least half a head taller than the men around him. The cafeteria lights shone on him, making his hair appear a light, warm chestnut color.
There were three people between them, probably because the big boss was standing right in front of them, and these people remained silent and extremely reserved.
Especially the person in front of me, who seemed to have degenerated limbs, spent ages struggling with a few quail eggs using a pair of tongs.
Lin Zhenzhen couldn't stand it anymore: "Let me help you, how many do you want to eat?"
The boy tilted his head and stammered, "Huh? Three, three will do."
"Here you go." Lin Zhenzhen's hand was very steady.
She used to film many period dramas. In order to pursue martial arts performance, she once underwent a year of closed professional training in the mountains. Even now, she can still wield a beautiful sword.
"Thank you." The boy blushed, lowered his head, and didn't dare to look her in the eye.
Lin Zhenzhen smiled, looked up, and saw a clear, cold profile reflected in the glass of the food serving window.
Huo Yeshuo quickly lowered his eyes, his dark green pupils shifting away, as if the eye contact just now was merely an accident.
An accident? Lin Zhenzhen chuckled softly, clearly spying on her.
After getting his food, Huo Yeshuo sat in the same corner where he ate lunch.
A short while later, Lin Zhenzhen sat down next to him with her plate.
"Mr. Huo, may I sit here?"
Lin Zhenzhen smiled. She wasn't wearing makeup; her bare face was almost translucent white, and her lips were pink, which inexplicably reminded Huo Yeshuo of his princess's soft breasts.
Princess is his pet Garfield, who is incredibly spoiled and has a terrible temper. The only redeeming quality of hers is that she's somewhat cooperative when her paw pads are pinched.
Huo Yeshuo snapped out of his thoughts, his gaze cold: "There are plenty of empty seats next to me."
"I know, but it's different." Lin Zhenzhen pursed her lips, her eyes crinkling. "Only when I sit here, next to you, is it truly you."
Huo Yeshuo's brow twitched, and his fingers tightened around the chopsticks.
In the brief moment of distraction, Lin Zhenzhen had already sat down in a chair quite consciously and started to seriously savor the pig's trotters on the plate.
Sensing that someone was looking at her, Lin Zhenzhen turned her head and gave Huo Yeshuo, who was frowning, a sweet smile.
"Mr. Huo, aren't you going to eat?"
Huo Yeshuo turned his head, expressionless, and stuffed a piece of meat into his mouth, followed by another piece of meat, and then yet another piece of meat.
Lin Zhenzhen glanced at his plate and saw that it was full of meat.
Wow! Mr. Huo, you can really eat meat!
Lin Zhenzhen picked up a piece of leafy green vegetables with her chopsticks: "Unlike me, my stomach feels uncomfortable whenever I eat meat, so I can only eat things that are easy to digest."
Huo Yeshuo didn't react at all, seemingly unwilling to engage in this pointless conversation with her.
"Mr. Huo, which window of food do you usually like to eat at in the cafeteria?"
"I found that the braised chicken rice in our cafeteria is delicious, but the chef seems to have been a bit shaky these past two days, and he's been adding a little too much chili."
"Lanzhou noodles are also good. But Xiaoling thinks they're just so-so."
"By the way, the lady at window number 3 is really lovely. Last time I was late, and I actually heard her rapping inside the window. She was quite good at it."
Lin Zhenzhen cleared her throat and tried to recreate the tune from her memory.
Huo Yeshuo seemed to have finally reached his limit. He put down his chopsticks and said coldly, "What are you still doing at the company?"
Lin Zhenzhen paused for a moment, then her expression softened: "Work overtime to verify the vouchers."
Huo Yeshuo interlaced his fingers, half-clenched his hands and placed them under his chin, his chin slightly raised, his gaze scrutinizing, his posture exuding a strong sense of pressure.
"Is the verification complete?"
Lin Zhenzhen lowered her head, her voice becoming very soft: "Not yet."
"What you should be doing now is going back to work, instead of sitting here talking a bunch of meaningless nonsense."
Lin Zhenzhen's eyes widened: "I'm not..."
Her words were abruptly interrupted: "You should still be an intern, right?"
Huo Yeshuo raised an eyebrow indifferently: "I haven't known you for long and I don't know you very well. But if your work efficiency is as sluggish as your personality, I can only say that you do not quite meet the requirements of our group."
Perhaps because she had never heard such direct criticism before, she felt humiliated and found it hard to bear.
Her head drooped even lower, her shoulders trembled slightly, and the hair that was originally tucked behind her ears slipped down, covering most of her face and revealing a slender, fair neck.
Huo Yeshuo paused, feeling inexplicably irritated.
He stood up, not giving himself time to investigate further, and announced simply and clearly: "Go to the HR department tomorrow, they will talk to you."
