Chapter 64 Unwavering Love (Part 8)

While Shen Wangshu was focused on driving, Ah Xuan seemed to know not to disturb him, so he didn't make a sound and quietly watched Shen Wangshu from the side.

His eyes became clearer, but Shen Wangshu didn't notice.

She focused on driving, switching places with A-Tu several times, until they reached the vicinity of the Sunrise Base. With only a day's drive left to enter the base, she finally relaxed. As a living person, she naturally needed rest. Besides, while eating and drinking could be done in the car, everyone needs to relieve themselves, which wasn't suitable to do there. Ahead, Nan Lan found a field with few zombies; most of the plants were withered, leaving only tall weeds. She casually tossed out two small fireballs, burning the entire area to ashes.

After Ah Guang purified all the exposed zombies, he finally stopped the car.

Ning's father and mother shakily got down and sat on the floor covered with a neat tablecloth, panting and looking rather pale.

They are old, and it must be really hard for them to sit in the car all the time, but they never say anything and just endure it silently.

A hint of guilt crossed Nan Lan's face. She sat down beside Ning's mother and gently massaged her legs, ignoring her mother's waving refusing to do it herself. She genuinely treated Ning's mother as her own mother, so everything she did felt perfectly natural. But Ning's mother knew how hard she had worked, and touching Nan Lan's pale face, she smiled and said, "It's nothing serious."

Just as she was about to comfort the self-reproaching Nan Lan, she saw that Shen Wangshu had also parked his SUV to the side. The two SUVs formed a fairly large arc, completely blocking their backs.

Ah Xuan jumped out of the car, looked at the fields in the distance, and let out a soft roar, eager to try.

He sensed that there were still zombies inside and wanted to collect the crystal cores.

But he stopped as he passed Ning's mother, tilted his head to look at Ning's mother and father's somewhat ashen faces, and Nan Lan, who was massaging Ning's mother's legs to improve blood circulation.

He saw Ning's mother gently touching Nan Lan's face, looking very loving and approving.

The zombie seemed to be thinking about something.

After a moment, he squatted down next to Ning's father, whose lips were twitching, and looked at him.

Although his body wasn't as stiff as before, squatting down was still difficult. So, he impatiently straightened his long, strong legs and sat down. After a pause, he yelled at Ning's father and pointed to his legs. Ning's father looked at Ning's mother pleadingly, but felt as if the zombie's two merciless kicks were urging him on. He had no choice but to put his old legs on the zombie's hard thighs and get closer.

The zombie saw Ning's father standing close by, let out a satisfied roar, and stretched out its hands.

"Help, help, help me..." The careless claws pinched Ning's father's leg, and the old man immediately burst into tears.

Shen Wangshu walked over with a smile and saw Ning's father groaning softly while the zombie vigorously massaged him. She burst out laughing.

She smiled but then felt guilty, so she forced a smile and walked to Ah Xuan's side, bent down and took his hand, telling him in her own way how much force to use for a massage.

Ah Xuan was a very clever zombie; he immediately knew how much pressure to use. He seemed tireless, and after squeezing Ning's father twice, Ning's father groaned comfortably. He looked extremely pleased; clearly, few humans in this day and age received such treatment as a zombie massage. However, Ning's father hadn't enjoyed it for long before he felt his old leg being squeezed harder again.

He opened his eyes and saw the zombie glaring at him angrily.

He glanced at Ning's mother, then at Ning's father, and began to threaten in a low voice.

Mr. Ning's face stiffened for a moment. He turned to look at Mrs. Ning and saw his wife touching Nan Lan's hand with boundless affection.

The zombies clearly felt it was unfair.

"Ah Xuan has worked hard too." Father Ning hadn't expected Ah Xuan to be such a zombie who needed praise to satisfy his inner turmoil. He had to force a loving expression on his face, patted Ah Xuan's hand, and praised him kindly. Seeing that the zombie was still glaring at him fiercely, he steeled himself and called his daughter over. Pointing to the zombie who had suddenly lowered his head and was massaging him again with extra effort, he said, "Ah Xuan is so thoughtful and knows how to be filial to me. Such an excellent young man... there aren't many zombies left. You must cherish Ah Xuan and not do anything to hurt him!"

Ning's father was so aggrieved that he almost burst into tears.

It's rare to see a father-in-law in the world who has to say nice things because he's being threatened by his son-in-law.

“I knew Ah Xuan was the best.” Shen Wangshu could easily see through the zombie’s little tricks. Seeing him secretly glancing at her and muttering to himself, she went up and kissed the zombie on the cheek.

Seeing that he was satisfied this time, she obediently resumed massaging Ning's father's old arms and legs before smilingly distributing the steamed buns and canned goods she had taken from the car to everyone. Nan Lan had made steamed buns from the flour she brought back from the supermarket. Although they were dry, cold, and hard, these days it's good enough to have something to eat, and being pretentious would be against all reason.

The two other survivors who had come out with them also cautiously gathered around.

When strangers are around, Ah Xuan is very cold and quiet.

He lowered his head and massaged Ning's father's arm, looking extremely unapproachable.

He possessed an aura of intimidation and appeared quite cold, so no one dared to provoke him. Shen Wangshu carefully hid him behind her, and seeing that there was still plenty of food in the car, she smiled and shared it with the two families.

Both families consisted of middle-aged couples, each with a teenage child. The adults looked thin and haggard, but the two children were well-protected, still looking with curious eyes at A-Guang, who was only two or three years older than them but very capable. The two children were also very sensible; even when they saw canned meat in front of A-Guang, they didn't ask for it.
