They would give up anything for money; their ugly behavior disgusted him.
Sheng Lun loathed this kind of world, and he also loathed showing a fake smile to everyone.
But he was the only son of the Sheng family, their future heir. This inexplicable responsibility forced him to stay at the company, enduring agonizing pain. Because of this, he even refused to face his parents, choosing instead to live alone in a hotel suite, far from the hustle and bustle of his family—a truly carefree existence. It was only today, after Gao Sen came to see him and persuaded him to return, that he finally came back. Thinking of Gao Sen's heartfelt words, he was deeply moved by Gao Sen's sincerity.
"Your sister is dead, where did you get a brother-in-law from!" Mother Sheng said sharply.
As her well-maintained face swept over Chu Xiangyun, who was timidly clinging to Gao Sen's clothes from behind, Sheng's mother felt a pang of pain in her liver.
She'd seen plenty of shameless women, but those were all other people's, and she could just watch them make a fool of themselves. But this time, experiencing it firsthand made her so angry she felt like she was going to vomit blood.
"Mom, why do you say that?" Before getting married, Sheng's mother was a young lady from a wealthy family. After marrying into the Sheng family, she never suffered any grievances, so she was quite aggressive. Sheng Lun frowned immediately.
He was the type to side with reason, not personal ties. Seeing the faint sorrow on Gao Sen's face, he said coldly, "Although Jiajia is gone, they still have Xiao Xi! Once family, always family. Don't take your anger out on others."
He glanced at the beautiful and delicate Chu Xiangyun hidden behind Gao Sen, and thought of the moment he felt his heart flutter when he first saw her. It was a feeling of excitement and trembling that he had never experienced when he went on blind dates with so many noble ladies. He couldn't help but say, "You were too rude to this young lady just now. I heard that she knelt down before you? This is modern society. Why are you still making her kneel down as punishment?"
Mr. Sheng didn't bother looking at his son with disbelief, because his son's poor judgment had been going on for a long time, and he had said even more foolish things in the past.
Shen Wangshu let Sheng Lun spout nonsense.
He thought he was very righteous, but he didn't realize that his every word and action was hurting his most important family members.
Brain damage is a disease, an incurable one.
"Bad guy!" Lei Tian had spent the whole day at the Sheng family home and had already won over Sheng's mother, who loved to kiss and hug him and fill his little belly with lots of pastries and juice.
He rarely received the undivided affection of his elders. In the Lei family, his own father was a given, not to mention his father's numerous and colorful girlfriends, and his uncle was best left unmentioned; there were practically no other relatives left. But the Sheng family showered him with love, a love that seemed to love him no matter what he did, making the chubby boy feel sweeter than cake. He was close to Sheng's mother, and seeing the big man making her tremble with anger, he nimbly rolled over and jumped off Lei Xuan's lap.
The chubby knight reappeared, charging forward aggressively and shoving Sheng Lun until he stumbled. Realizing his cardboard sword was not with him, he stood without hesitation in front of Sheng's mother, spreading his two chubby little arms.
“I will punish you in the name of the moon!” he shouted.
Shen Wangshu chuckled, both stunned and laughing so hard she kept rubbing her eyes.
Sheng's mother was stunned. Looking at the chubby boy who still knew how to protect himself, she suddenly burst into tears.
Even a small child knows how to care for others better than my son.
"Your Majesty, don't be sad, the knight will protect you!" The chubby boy turned his head nimbly and patted his little chest as he spoke.
"What did you call me?" Mrs. Sheng was stunned.
Shen Wangshu gritted her teeth as she looked at the fat knight, a man of both Chinese and Western learning and knowledgeable in ancient and modern times, and laughed until tears welled up in her eyes.
"Xiao Xi will also protect the Empress Dowager." The soft and fluffy Gao Xi rolled down and threw herself into Sheng's mother's arms, joining her friend in their hatred of the enemy, and glaring at the astonished Sheng Lun.
"Who are they?!" Sheng Lun wasn't a very strong person; artists never need to be strong. He barely managed to steady himself when he saw two children appear in front of his mother.
One was fair-skinned and handsome, his nephew Gao Xi; the other was chubby, his little clothes puffed out, clearly revealing a lot of flesh underneath. He was hurt by the hostility in the children's eyes, and ignoring his mother's tears, he said unhappily, "Mom, what have you taught Xiao Xi at home? How can he be so rude to adults? Is this how you treat your uncle?"
"You still know you're his uncle?" Mother Sheng, holding two children on each side, sneered through gritted teeth.
Mr. Sheng watched his son silently, his eyes filled with unspeakable disappointment.
He remained silent for a long time before finally making up his mind.
“It’s my fault for not teaching Xiaoxi well. He doesn’t have a mother anymore, and I’m usually busy with work, so there’s no elder to guide him,” Gao Sen quickly stepped in to smooth things over. He sighed deeply, revealing a sorrowful and pitiful expression, and his gaze shifted tenderly to Shen Wangshu.
Although Lei Xuan's intimate presence beside Shen Wangshu displeased Gao Sen, he felt even more confident. He nodded slightly to Lei Xuan, walked to Shen Wangshu, presented her with the flowers in both hands, and said gently, "Yaoyao, these are for you." His gaze was full of affection and longing.
Shen Wangshu leaned casually on Lei Xuan's shoulder, glancing up at Gao Sen and the bouquet of roses.
Her eyes shifted to Chu Xiangyun, and seeing this gentle, water-like girl, she was indeed heartbroken once again.
However, she clearly had no interest in accepting this worthless rose. She gave Gao Sen a cold look for a moment, then tilted her head to look at Lei Xuan.
This expressionless man, who seemed devoid of joy, anger, sorrow, or happiness, gently placed her on the sofa, stood up, and casually accepted the bouquet of roses.
