"Ah~~" The woman surnamed Guo was suddenly plunged into darkness, somewhat panicked. "Wu Xiangwan, Wu Xiangwan, where did you go?"
Xiang Wan didn't say a word, hiding herself as far back as possible. A moment later, she heard the woman fumble around and turn on her flashlight. As she walked back, she called out, "Wu Xiang Wan, did you hear that?"
The footsteps grew closer, and the lights were not far from where Xiang Wan was hiding. Xiang Wan held her breath and did not respond.
"Hmph, you dodged quickly!"
The woman surnamed Guo scanned the area with her flashlight a few times but found no trace of Xiang Wan, so she had to give up.
Only when she heard the woman's footsteps fading into the distance did Xiang Wan finally breathe a sigh of relief. She still had internal injuries, and if the woman surnamed Guo wanted to do anything to her, she truly wouldn't have the strength to resist. Being alone was better than being with that treacherous person.
"Host, you've learned your lesson, huh?"
Xiang Wan felt a little comforted that 007 had sneaked out and was hopping around. She had never been in a dark underground passage before, let alone alone. She used to be terrified of the dark, but miraculously, she wasn't panicking anymore. She thought it might be because of the system's company. Although it wasn't very reliable, at least she could talk to it.
"Xiao Qi, give me the plot."
Xiang Wan calmly squatted down on the ground, and before 007 could speak again, she added, "Let's also distribute the rewards from the last world at the same time, to save trouble."
007 felt a mouthful of blood stuck in his throat. He had just received the soul from the previous world, and before he could even warm it up, he had to hand it over. The thought made him feel heartbroken.
"If you're alone, aren't you afraid of ghosts, poisonous snakes, spiders, or anything like that? If one bites you, you're dead. And you'll still be in the mood to receive plot details and ask for rewards?"
"It's rightfully mine, why can't I take it?"
Xiang Wan closed her eyes and pretended to sleep, but in her mind she was still explaining the system to everyone.
"The so-called ghosts are just souls. I am one myself, so what's there to be afraid of? Poisonous snakes, spiders, and the like—have you ever seen any insect or animal carcass here? Without food, how would they survive? Besides, the fact that woman surnamed Guo dared to lead me here alone means that this place is safe for the time being."
"Huh, did this system miss something?"
"The original owner's body was so weak, yet they still let her in. Either there's a conflict of interest, or the original owner is still useful to them. Even if she's a hindrance, they won't do anything to me."
"Hmm, that seems to make sense."
"So let's get to work. Even if I collapse on the ground, they won't just leave me to fend for myself."
System: ...Suddenly I realize the host is really awesome. What should I do if I can't fool him anymore?
007 didn't dare to delay and quickly sent the plot and rewards into Xiang Wan's mind.
Given the original owner's constitution, Xiang Wan successfully fainted. Her body was slowly repairing itself, and she seemed to be having a long dream.
In her dream, there was a loving but also very busy couple. They were always traveling for work, while she sat in her wheelchair, looking towards the front door countless times, hoping that the moment she opened it would bring the couple to her side with smiles on their faces.
Countless days and nights passed in the empty house, with only the nanny by her side. Her initial anticipation gradually turned into indifference. The couple remained as busy as ever, oblivious to her change in attitude. It wasn't until one day, when she became extremely weak and was taken to the hospital, that she saw the couple's anxious faces again. But after returning home, the couple were even more busy than usual; she couldn't understand what they were so busy with that they neglected their home.
She grew up, but the emptiness in her heart grew larger and larger, as if nothing could fill it. The couple started being away from home for years on end, and she got used to this kind of life, losing all expectations and emotions.
At the age of twenty, she suddenly fell into a coma, with very little time spent awake. Just when she thought she would pass away peacefully, she suddenly discovered that there seemed to be a new strength in her body. She improved day by day and was even able to walk like a normal person.
She was still living in the empty villa with her nanny, but the nanny's expression towards her began to change, showing a complex mix of emotions: restraint, joy, fear, and apprehension.
She didn't care; she just wanted to see the world for herself. She began learning all sorts of things, trying her best to catch up with her peers. By chance, she saw something left behind by the couple—a tattered and incomplete picture. There were words on it, but she couldn't understand them.
She had initially chosen to ignore the couple who had given birth to her but neglected her, but when she flipped the picture to the back, she saw a warm and heartwarming photo of the family of three when she was just born. It was clear that the couple loved her very much, so why did they abandon her?
As she watched, tears blurred her vision, and a voice inside her said that she must find out the truth.
So she went to the couple's workplace to ask them what was going on, only to be told that they hadn't worked there for a long time. They were both archaeologists, and perhaps they had gone off to do some archaeological work, with no certainty of when they would return.
She took their personal belongings back and put them in the study, where she studied them every day.
They had been to many places: the Terracotta Army in Xi'an, the general's tomb in Xingtai, an unnamed tomb in the heart of the Taklamakan Desert, Shennongjia, the hanging coffins of Wuyi Mountain, and even overseas. Many places only had photos, without any place names. As she flipped through their notes, she saw that they had no time to think about themselves in the name of so-called ancient culture, and her heart ached.
