"Sister Wan'er, don't worry. Xiao Lan is the most reliable person. She must be delayed by something if she hasn't returned yet. Why don't I go down and check?" Qin Rong said hurriedly when she saw Xiang Wan was about to leave.
“That won’t do. Let’s go down and take a look together. You’re a weak woman; if something happens to you, it’ll be easier to handle if we’re together,” Xiang Xia said.
“That’s right, it’s safer if the three of us go together. Let’s go.” Xiang Wan said, getting up to go downstairs.
"Hey, I see Xiaolan and the others," Qin Rong glanced out the window and turned back to say, "They seem to be waving at me. Maybe they need to talk to me. I'll go down and check it out."
Without waiting for Xiang Wan and Xiang Xia's reply, he ran downstairs.
Looking out the window in the evening, she saw Qin Rong running quickly outside. She looked in the direction Qin Rong was running and saw an old woman walking towards them, but she didn't see Xiao Lan and the others.
"This is so strange, I didn't see Xiaolan and the others." Xiang Wan muttered.
"They'll probably be up soon, let's wait a little longer." Xiang Xia sat back down.
After eating and drinking their fill, the two drank quite a bit of tea. Feeling a little bloated, they stopped thinking about Qin Rong and the others. Thinking they would be waiting for them if they returned, they went to the restroom together. Upon returning, they decided it would be more convenient to wait on the first floor, so they found a table in the middle and sat down.
After noon, the number of diners gradually decreased. Xiang Wan looked around at the tables and saw the old woman she had seen upstairs earlier sitting at one of them, drinking tea. The old woman nodded to Xiang Wan as she approached. Xiang Wan noticed that the old woman's attire was unlike that of an ordinary woman; she wore a jade bracelet on her wrist, emerald earrings, and her hair was styled in a traditional Chinese updo with three white jade hairpins. Her face was kind, and Xiang Wan realized this woman was no ordinary person, so she smiled back at her.
As darkness fell, Qin Rong and Xiao Lan were still nowhere to be seen, and Xiang Wan and Xiang Xia were getting a little anxious. Just then, the waiter came over and urged the two of them to pay the bill.
"Didn't we already pay the bill?" Xiang Wan said.
"Oh ho, we've run into someone trying to dine and dash." The waiter's voice rose considerably.
"Who ate and dashed? Our maid already paid you." Xiang Wan was a little indignant when she saw the waiter turn hostile.
"Hey, trying to renege on your debt? No way!" the waiter shouted into the shop. "Boss, those two young ladies ate and dashed and won't pay!"
Xiang Wan was furious and shouted, "Are you even being reasonable? I told you the maid already paid, we didn't dine and dash!"
"In my restaurant, I've never encountered anyone who doesn't pay for their meal. I'd like to see who's so bold."
A burly middle-aged man with a fierce face emerged from behind the counter on the first floor and walked towards Xiang Wan and Xiang Xia.
"Boss, it's them, trying to renege on their debt," the waiter said, pointing to the two people in the evening and addressing the middle-aged man.
The middle-aged man was the restaurant owner. When he saw Xiang Xia and Xiang Wan, he first looked them up and down, then narrowed his eyes, reached out and lifted Xiang Xia's chin. After Xiang Xia dodged, he reached out to Xiang Wan.
"Speak your mind, don't resort to violence." Xiang Wan slapped the middle-aged man down.
“Young lady, you have quite a temper,” the shopkeeper said, putting his hands behind his back. “But it’s not good that you don’t have the money to pay the bill.”
