“I’m already poisoned and don’t have much time left. Are you sure you want to waste your time here with me?” Xiang Wan said calmly. “If we get entangled with someone who is about to die, aren’t we afraid of attracting attention? In that case, neither of us will be able to escape.”
After several attempts to probe, Xiang Wan guessed that this person was neither the leader the two men at the door had mentioned, nor the person they were supposed to be guarding. Otherwise, they would have killed her the moment she entered, or shouted for reinforcements. Although she was injured, she was still someone who had experienced countless battles, so how could she be easily captured unless someone was more powerful than her?
She had been forced to speak for so long, and he showed no intention of calling for help or worrying about her shouting for help. This could only mean that he, like her, had also come in the dark, either looking for something or someone.
"Let me go, and maybe I can help you."
The confident tone made the person above chuckle.
"If I'm not mistaken, you're the one they're after. You've walked right into their trap, and you still have the mood to chat idly here?"
Xiang Wan was startled. The five of them were here on a mission, and this was kept absolutely secret from everyone except their department head. This person was trying to trick her; it was incredibly unprofessional.
"Oh, why am I so unlucky? I came here with someone else, and in the end I have to ruin my own reputation. I am more wronged than Dou E."
"Could it be that Dou E is uglier than you?"
Pfft, Xiang Wan almost burst out laughing. She almost forgot that the classic character Dou E didn't exist in this world yet.
"That's right. Her face was covered in pockmarks, she had buck teeth and a protruding mouth, and her waist was as thick as a water bucket, yet someone still took a liking to her and insisted on marrying her. Her husband used this to falsely accuse her of being impure, and in the end, she threw herself into a well in resentment. Don't you think that was a miscarriage of justice?"
"It's really unfair. Her husband is blind, but I'm not. Since someone who's so incredibly ugly can be attractive, someone like you might actually be to my liking."
Holy crap, that's really extreme. She must have had some really bad luck to run into such a weirdo.
"Brother, I have bad breath and body odor, how could you do this to me?"
"Whether you can bring yourself to do it or not, you'll know by smelling it."
As he spoke, the person on top of Xiang Wan suddenly flipped her over, locked her hands behind her back, pressed her legs down, and freed one hand to unbutton her clothes.
This time, Xiang Wan was anxious. She didn't care if it would attract enemies; losing her innocence would only make her feel suffocated.
"Help! Help... Ugh..."
The person on top of her suddenly leaned down and covered her mouth with theirs, silencing her cries for help.
Xiang Wan was so frightened by this action that she gasped for breath, and then struggled violently, instantly flipping the person off the bed.
Without the restraint, Xiang Wan immediately got up, gripped the dagger in her hand, and lunged towards the floor below the bed.
The man dodged left and right, narrowly avoiding being stabbed by Xiang Wan several times. Driven by an indomitable spirit, Xiang Wan was determined to stab him. Having traversed so many worlds, this was the first time she had been sexually assaulted by someone whose gender she couldn't even discern; she was furious. She wouldn't be able to get over it until she vented her anger.
Ignoring everything else, Xiang Wan used all the strength she had ever shown in her life, stabbing wherever she struck, creating a hole. The man was merely dodging, not engaging Xiang Wan in direct combat, which infuriated her; he was clearly just toying with her.
The wound reopened, and the bleeding increased. Xiang Wan gradually lost her strength and felt dizzy. She knew that she had lost too much blood, and if the bleeding was not stopped, she was afraid she wouldn't be able to hold on for long.
After trying for a long time, Xiang Wan couldn't even tie a corner of her clothes. She was somewhat disheartened, but her chest was filled with anger and resentment. So she simply stood still.
"Oh, you're not playing anymore?"
The man also stopped, and seeing that Xiang Wan didn't move, he took a few steps forward.
Xiang Wan took a few deep breaths, trying to suppress her anger to prevent herself from losing control and falling into his trap.
"Why did you stop fighting? I haven't even made a move yet, and you're stopping so soon? That's so boring."
Xiang Wan felt a lump in her throat, she was so angry she was about to explode.
No, we can't just give up like this. If we can't beat them, can't we at least use some strategy?
"Waaaaah, I'm just a weak woman, and you've humiliated me like this. How am I supposed to live? I might as well just die."
While crying, Xiang Wan picked up the dagger and pretended to stab herself in the neck.
"Oh, please don't! It would be such a waste to die like that, and it wouldn't look good either. It would be better to lie in bed and bleed to death, comfortably, without pain or suffering."
Not falling for the trick, Xiang Wan simply pretended to be dizzy, slowly loosened her grip on the dagger, and the dagger fell to the ground. She also slowly lay down on the ground, gradually slowing her breathing until it was almost inaudible unless you got close.
The man stood still, while Xiang Wan remained lying down, patiently waiting.
Time passed slowly, and a quarter of an hour later, she heard the man slowly lift his feet and walk towards her.
"So fragile?" The man stopped a step away from Xiang Wan, then squatted down and reached out to check her breath. "You're too weak. A little blood and you... ah..."
Xiang Wan bit his finger and at the same time grabbed the dagger beside her and stabbed forward.
The man deflected the dagger with his other hand and reached for Xiang Wan. Taking advantage of the moment, Xiang Wan released her grip, kicked him between the legs, and as he dodged, quickly flipped out the window.
The man tried to climb out the window, but Xiang Wan slammed the window shut, quickly leaped over the corridor railing, and landed on the ground.
"Captain Zhao, what are you doing here?"
Feng Yulian suddenly appeared out of nowhere and beckoned Xiang Wan to come with her.
The people upstairs made a move to jump, but Xiang Wan grabbed Feng Yulian and ran outside, shouting as she ran, "Murder! Murder! Help!"
The lights in several rooms came on one by one, and Xiang Wan and the others had already run to the back of the courtyard. The people guarding the fence followed them, running towards the small building. Feng Yulian pulled Xiang Wan into a small room on the side, and after the others left, she immediately opened the door, jumped over the fence, and ran into the dense forest.
They hadn't run far when they heard gunshots coming from the village, the sound fading into the distance. The person must have gone in another direction.
"Phew, that was close, we almost got caught." Feng Yulian plopped down on the ground, rummaging through her clothes, pulling out her belongings. "Captain Zhao, why weren't you waiting for me in the warehouse? I found some medicine, let me take a look at your wound."
Xiang Wan squatted down and, by the faint moonlight, saw that the gauze on her arm was already blurred.
Feng Yulian gently unwrapped the gauze from her arm, broke the pills into powder, sprinkled it on her wound, and then used the remaining gauze to bandage the wound.
"Fortunately, it was only a penetrating wound and did not damage the bone."
After Xiang Wan finished bandaging the wound, she got up and walked into the dense forest.
"Captain Zhao, why don't you ask me where I found these medicines?"
"You didn't even ask me why I didn't wait for you where I was, did you?"
"Captain Zhao has his reasons, and I believe you!"
Xiang Wan smiled, neither confirming nor denying.
