"Qiu Rui, can you stop messing around?"
"Are you heartbroken?"
"Can't you be reasonable? Even if we broke up, he's already had his wedding, and it has nothing to do with me anymore. Why should I feel sorry for him?"
"If you don't care, why are you so afraid I'll cause trouble at his wedding?"
"Friends, just ordinary friends! When attending a friend's wedding, shouldn't you show them some respect?"
"Give him face? Who the hell is giving me face?" Qiu Rui leaned forward, his breath hitting Xiang Wan's face. "You've been his slave for three years straight. Even when he got married, you didn't even try to get any justice for yourself. Do you know how I feel? It hurts here, it hurts so much, you know?"
Qiu Rui's eyes reddened, and he jabbed his heart hard with his finger, the sound echoing in Xiang Wan's ears and striking her heart. Memories she had chosen to forget gradually resurfaced. Scenes of helplessness, despair, grievance, longing, indifference, and disregard flashed through her mind. Before, when she was alone, she hadn't felt anything. But when someone stood up for her, for her grievances, and for her sake, Xiang Wan had never felt so pained.
From beginning to end, she hadn't felt anything was wrong. All the sacrifices she'd made for the relationship, in her eyes, were unrelated to anything else; it was all about the relationship itself. When the relationship was gone, everything vanished. But now, Qiu Rui, the man before her, felt that her past sacrifices were worthless, that he felt pain for her past, and that he cared about her feelings. Tears welled in her eyes. For the first time in her life, Xiang Wan felt that the person before her wasn't so unpleasant after all.
"Fool, you sacrificed so much for someone like that, it's not worth it. I only regret that I didn't meet you first!"
Qiu Rui reached out and gently embraced Xiang Wan, patting her back lightly with his hand.
The feigned strength and forced composure crumbled at this moment. Leaning against broad shoulders, Xiang Wan let herself go, immersing herself in this moment of tenderness, even if it was just for a while.
After an unknown amount of time, the emcee's voice gradually reached Xiang Wan's ears, and she realized that she was still in Qiu Rui's arms. She awkwardly straightened up and took a step back.
"Hey, use it and then throw it away, that's just like you!"
Qiu Rui reverted to her previous attitude, as if the person who had just provided her with a haven had never existed.
It was that annoying Qiu Rui again. Xiang Wan replied irritably, "How can you be so mean? Just to see me embarrass myself, is that it?"
"Oh, you figured it out? Did you feel even a little bit of attraction for me just now?"
When he asked this question, Qiu Rui's eyes were filled with mockery. He was still really annoying!
"How boring!"
Xiang Wan turned and walked away. Qiu Rui asked from behind, "Where are you going?"
"Bathroom, don't follow me!"
Xiang Wan was a little angry, unsure whether it was because she had been fooled by Qiu Rui, or because Qiu Rui's attitude had changed so quickly. Either way, it wasn't a good sign; she needed to find somewhere to calm down.
Hiding in the bathroom, trying to compose herself, Xiang Wan had no idea that her departure was exactly what Qiu Rui had planned. What he said at the hotel entrance was serious.
One part of the wedding ceremony involves the bride and groom cutting the cake together. While the best man was bending down, he took his corsage and pinned it to his own lapel. Then he approached a waiter and asked for help pushing the cake. Seeing the best man's corsage, the waiter let him go. What happened next was that he secretly inserted a knife between two small figures on the cake, the blade and handle completely submerged.
He Yang didn't notice at first, but when he saw that the person coming up was Qiu Rui, his face turned extremely ugly, and he couldn't even maintain his smile.
As Qiu Rui passed by him, he whispered in a voice only the two of them could hear, "From now on, if I find out you still have feelings for Xiang Wan, don't blame me for being impolite. Today was just a lesson for you!"
Patting He Yang on the shoulder, Qiu Rui handed the plastic cake knife to An Shui'er and then stepped aside to watch the fun.
He Yang sensed something was wrong. He checked the cake cart but found nothing amiss. He stared intently at Qiu Rui, giving him a warning look. Qiu Rui smiled, gave him a defiant look, and then walked into the crowd.
As they cut the cake, a knife came out, causing gasps of surprise from everyone present. An Shui'er's face turned pale with anger. He Yang clenched his fists, scanning the crowd several times, but couldn't find Qiu Rui anywhere.
When Xiang Wan came out, the wedding was already over. He Yang, looking displeased, grabbed Xiang Wan's hand and led her to the stairwell.
"Xiang Wan, I never expected you to be this kind of person. If you didn't want to come, you could have just told me. Why did you want to ruin my wedding? Is this kind of revenge meaningful?"
Xiang Wan was completely bewildered. What was He Yang talking about? She hadn't done anything wrong; she'd only gone to the restroom. How could that have ruined his wedding? But seeing that He Yang wasn't joking, Xiang Wan guessed what had happened. Qiu Rui must have done something, and He Yang was blaming her. Looking at the impeccably dressed man before her, Xiang Wan suddenly felt like a stranger. They'd been together for three years. If he understood her, he wouldn't have come to question her without knowing the facts; he would at least have asked first. Now, they weren't even as close as ordinary strangers!
“He Yang, I don’t know what you’re talking about. I came to the wedding because I genuinely wanted to wish you all the best. But now it seems there’s no need for that.”
Xiang Wan turned to leave, but He Yang blocked her way.
