The snake, agile as it moved through the burrow, its eyes fixed on the lizard, ready to strike at any opportunity. The lizard, equally nimble, charged and rammed its way through the snake, its rough hide causing numerous scales to fall off, while the lizard was covered in bite wounds.
The more they fought, the more ferocious they became. As they continued their fierce battle, the cave was almost completely covered by mud.
Xiang Wan carefully concealed herself, slowing her breathing to avoid being detected by the lizard. She was too small; going out would only mean becoming food for the lizard.
They say when gods fight, mortals suffer; Xiang Wan had certainly experienced it firsthand. The snake and the lizard fought for about an hour, neither showing any sign of defeat. Suddenly, the plant, mostly buried in the soil, emitted a dazzling light, and the green fruit gradually transformed from the inside out into a crystal-clear fruit. At the same time, a strange fragrance began to emanate.
The snake and lizard paused simultaneously, both staring at the fruit. The lizard's eyes gleamed with ferocity, and it charged towards the fruit without hesitation. The snake suddenly tightened its grip, coiling itself around the lizard and biting down hard on its neck. At that moment, the lizard disregarded everything else, pushing forward despite the snake's tight coils.
As the lizard drew closer, the snake grew anxious, glanced at Xiang Wan, and bit the lizard's eye.
The lizard hissed and thrashed about wildly, trying to knock the snake off.
Xiang Wan's hiding place was almost buried by the mud that had been knocked down. She quickly got up, picked the fruit, and ran to another cave entrance.
The scent of fruit gradually faded into the distance. The lizard roared and kicked off, chasing after the evening. The snake was led by the lizard into the burrow. The narrow entrance was widened, and most of the friction was blocked by the snake's scales, allowing the lizard to squeeze in even faster.
Xiang Wan didn't dare look back and ran forward as fast as she could. At this moment, even the slightest hesitation could mean falling into the lizard's mouth.
The faint light in her hand barely illuminated the ground beneath her feet. As soon as she saw a hole, she darted in, the lizard relentlessly pursuing her. The snake still wouldn't let go; its head was already buried under the lizard's neck, biting into the soft flesh.
As she ran, Xiang Wan heard a loud splash. Without hesitation, she ran towards the water and, without a sound, fell in with a "plop." Then, she was lifted up by a huge wave and thrown heavily onto a rock.
Blood trickled from the corner of her mouth, but the fight in the water continued unabated. Xiang Wan lay on her back, panting heavily, inwardly cursing. So this snake was keeping her alive just so it could pick fruit for it while it fought the lizard? Damn it, she was practically risking her life! Snake, oh snake, if you don't win soon, the fruit will be your gift to me!
