Chapter 309 The Serpent Queen's Dilemma (Part Two)

A reddish-yellow light shone from the snake's vertical eye, and a cold, indifferent, and ruthless feeling began to sweep over his body. At the same time, an intense sense of oppression washed over him, and Xiang Wan stood frozen in place, forgetting to react.

She was only a few feet away from the snake, and Xiang Wan could even smell its strong, pungent, fishy odor. The snake's tongue flicked twice before it quickly retracted into its mouth.

Yes, the snake was downwind, and she kept walking towards the cave entrance where the wind was blowing in. Unexpectedly, there was a fork in the road here, which led her to come face to face with the snake. The feeling was beyond words!

The snake stared at her, motionless. Its head was golden, with red stripes between its scales, and a bulge on each side of its head, making it resemble a dragon. The snake's head was thicker than its body, indicating that it was enormous. She was too small for it to be a meal.

It is said that snakes that have cultivated themselves to a high level are very intelligent and understanding. Xiang Wan hopes that this snake is one.

The snake didn't move, and neither did Xiang Wan. After a moment of stalemate, the snake slowly opened its mouth, and a red fruit fell out and rolled to Xiang Wan's feet.

Xiang Wan blinked, pointed to herself, and looked puzzled. The snake flicked its tongue and slowly nodded.

Her wildly beating heart gradually calmed down. It was her first time dealing with a snake, and such a large one at that. Xiang Wan had managed to hold back her screams and keep her legs from going weak, and even had the composure to examine its scales. Honestly, she admired herself for it!

The snake slowly retreated, stopping about two zhang away, its vertical pupils still fixed on Xiang Wan. The oppressive feeling lessened slightly, and Xiang Wan breathed a sigh of relief. She slowly squatted down, picked up the red fruit, rubbed it against her body, and ate it.

Looking at the snake again, its vertical pupils seemed to change, as if it were smiling. Xiang Wan felt slightly terrified. Looking again, she saw that the snake's eyes had returned to normal and were still staring at her.

At this point, running away is pointless. If the snake really wants to eat her, she won't live another minute. It's better to play it by ear and maybe she can become good friends with the snake, haha!

Xiang Wan had mentally cursed the system that had brought her here countless times, but she hadn't heard a single response. Before the snake entered the cave, Xiang Wan hadn't dared to receive the plot, fearing interruption. Later, when the snake came at set times, Xiang Wan planned to receive the plot before its next appearance, but this unreliable system remained completely silent, offering no warning whatsoever.

Knowing the system's nature and its unreliability, Xiang Wan was certain of one thing: while the system might be a bit of a rip-off, it would never harm her. Therefore, her imagination of becoming good friends with the snake was perfectly reasonable.

If the system had known the snake was man-eating, it would never have put her in the snake's hole. There must be some secret she didn't know. Let's wait and see. Before this unreliable system responds, Xiang Wan thinks she should take care of herself first.

The snake flicked its tongue and slowly retreated. Seeing that Xiang Wan did not move, it nodded slightly and continued to watch her.

What?! Xiang Wan's eyes widened. She pointed to herself, then to the snake, which nodded. This time, Xiang Wan understood: the snake wanted her to go with it.

Xiang Wan suddenly became interested in a snake that seemed to understand human emotions, wanting to see what it was up to. Having raised it for so long, it probably wanted her help.

One should repay a favor many times over, and of course, one should not fail to repay the kindness shown to one of the snakes. Xiang Wan followed the snake, and the deeper she went, the larger the cave became. Before, she had been hunched over, but now she could walk upright, and she even saw the snake's tail.

After retreating a distance, the snake turned its body around and kept looking back to see if Xiang Wan was following.

When the snake folded its body in half, Xiang Wan stood still and waited for several minutes before she saw the snake's tail move forward.

Her guess was right; the snake's body was larger than its head, and its scales were thicker than her palm, hard, sharp, and gleaming. Wherever the scales passed, dirt fell away. Xiang Wan waited until the snake had gone some distance before moving forward; she couldn't get too close, or she'd be buried in the mud.

After navigating countless turns and walking until Xiang Wan's legs were aching, she finally saw the snake stopped at the entrance of a very wide cave. The snake coiled up beside the cave, flicking its tongue, waiting for Xiang Wan to approach.

The cave entrance was quite wide, easily accommodating a snake over a hundred meters long. Xiang Wan looked around and noticed a plant growing directly opposite the entrance, resembling gold but not quite. Its branches and leaves were extremely thin, almost like capillaries. In the very center of the plant was a green fruit, emitting a faint white light.

She had never seen this plant before. Could this be the reason the snake had come to her?

Xiang Wan pointed to herself, then to the fruit, making a cupping motion as if offering it to the snake, her mouth opening and closing to indicate that it was for her to eat. The snake nodded, lowered its head to Xiang Wan's level, stared at the fruit, and its tongue flicked nervously back and forth.

"It's just picking a fruit, why do we have to use her?" Xiang Wan reached out to pick the fruit, when she heard a deafening sound rapidly approaching. The snake immediately stood up, staring at the source of the sound, adopting a defensive posture.

Xiang Wan lost her balance, fell to the ground, and covered her head with her hands.

The soil above fell off one after another, and soon after, a roar was heard in my ears, followed by an earthquake.

Xiang Wan laboriously climbed to a corner and found a suitable hiding place to observe.

The snake was already locked in battle with a giant lizard. The lizard was covered in hard, fleshy lumps, roughly the size of an elephant, with fierce eyes. From its opening and closing mouth, murky saliva dripped continuously, turning into a puff of blue smoke when it hit the ground.
