After they went inside, Yuemanan put the bed back to its original state, then placed the chain over her collarbone and lay down.
A moment later, the door to the secret room was opened, and two jailers came in, inspected the room, and then left cursing.
Emerging from the cave entrance, they arrived at a natural cave. Inside, there was the sound of water and a faint light flickering.
"Monk, how do you know there's a passage behind the wall of that secret chamber? And how do you know the old king is imprisoned in purgatory?"
Shui Yuntian plopped down on the ground, held his injured foot in front of him, and planned to take off his shoes and socks to check it out, all the while chattering away.
In Xiang Wan's view, he was trying to distract himself from the pain in his foot by asking questions.
“Amitabha Buddha, the Buddha said, it cannot be spoken.”
Xiang Wan sat down beside him and picked up a sharp pebble from near his feet to help him cut open his socks.
My feet were so swollen that I couldn't take off my socks, so I had to cut them.
My feet, worn out from years of running around, have thick calluses that are not very attractive and have a faint odor.
Shui Yuntian noticed the slight twitch of Xiang Wan's nostrils, but he stubbornly refused to retract his foot. After all, it was the monk who had made his foot swollen; what was wrong with smelling it a little?
Xiang Wan found Shui Yuntian's awkwardness particularly unsettling.
Speaking of which, when did Shui Yuntian, who always treated her with disdain, start to act childish in front of her?
However, considering that she had indeed been rather unkind in taking advantage of him, she could barely tolerate his smelly feet and treat them for him. After all, she would still need him to run errands in the future, and it wouldn't be good if he were lame!
Watching Xiang Wan intently examine his ankle and massage his soles, Shui Yuntian was momentarily stunned.
He was too young to remember the last time he was treated so gently.
If only we could keep these moments forever!
"Alright, it's time for you to wash your feet."
Xiang Wan looked up, her face beaming with a bright smile. Before Shui Yuntian could even react, a sharp pain shot through her, causing tears to stream down her face uncontrollably.
After Xiang Wan set his dislocated foot bone back into place, she threw the foot to the ground without hesitation and went to wash her hands in a puddle not far away with a look of disgust.
Seeing Xiang Wan's actions, Shui Yuntian felt a complex mix of emotions, yet also seemed relieved.
Perhaps he's more used to the monk's sharp tongue.
