Chapter 578 Alien Battlefield (Part 3)

Before Grylls could continue observing, a louder commotion came from afar. The three of them immediately found a nearby gap where they could hide and slipped inside.

A moment later, a group of enormous figures swept overhead. As they ran, they devastated the surrounding buildings once more. Xiang Wan and her two companions were nearly buried alive.

After the commotion subsided, they crept out quietly and looked up to see a mountain of rats scrambling to devour a huge corpse. The gnawing and squeaking of their teeth sent chills down their spines.

Grylls breathed a sigh of relief that they weren't going to the cave to find the few people left behind.

The giant rat was nearby, and attracted by the food, it wouldn't notice them for a while. The three quickened their pace and continued walking away from the construction area.

The laboratory was built underground, and the entrance was extremely difficult to find. This wasn't a problem for Xiang Wan; the real challenge was how to inform Gryffin and the others about it.

Red Star is different from Earth. Even if there is an environment suitable for human survival, it still needs to be cultivated, just like the primitive Earth was developed. As soon as the mutated animals appeared, they devoured everything that was planted. Now they prey on humans because they will starve to death or kill each other if they don't eat them.

The humans left on Red Star had no food supplies, no weapons, and had even lost contact with the outside world. In other words, they were completely abandoned and had no choice but to save themselves.

"I know the entrance to a laboratory."

To avoid pointless and aimless searching, Xiang Wan decided to get straight to the point.

When survival is at stake, there's no need to worry about so much. Even if one might doubt how a child her age could know so much, it's a shortcut to avoid monsters, and there's no reason to refuse it.

Where?

The young man asked directly, without even consulting Grylls.

Having spent many days in that cave, he knew all too well the importance of finding refuge. Because of that lizard, if he hadn't been idle and wanted to wait for them to walk into his trap, how could he have survived until today?

If lizards possess the intelligence to fool humans, and are so large, then what chance do humans have of surviving?

The answer is no.

"Song Yang, that's my name."

"Lassie".

This is the original owner's name in this world.

“Grien”.

After a brief self-introduction, Xiang Wan led them towards a remote vegetable growing base that was rarely visited by people.

The place had long been destroyed by those giant animals, and the scene was a complete mess.

As I got closer, I discovered a tiny figure hiding behind a shelf, trembling with fear.

Grian and Song Yang picked up the scattered steel bars from the ground and flanked the area from the left and right.

"It's a person."

Without saying anything more, Xiang Wan directly stopped Grian and Song Yang.

The two exchanged a glance, but neither put down what they were holding. A figure slowly emerged from behind the shelf; it was a little boy, about five or six years old.

Who are you?

The little boy was probably terrified; when he saw Xiang Wan and the others, his voice changed with fear.

"Don't be afraid, we won't hurt you."

Grylls relaxed and spoke to comfort the little boy.

Xiang Wan remained silent; delaying at this point might attract other predators.

"Don't speak, come with me."

Xiang Wan turned and left, which seemed rather cold and unfriendly.

Song Yang glanced at the little boy and followed Xiang Wan without saying a word.

Gerry reached out his hand, wanting the little boy to hold it, but the boy just shrank back in fear.

"If you don't want to die, follow me."

There are quite a few children who have lost the protection of their parents and relatives. She simply doesn't have the energy to comfort every single one she encounters.

The little boy stood there, watching their figures gradually disappear into the distance, bit his lip, and then ran off at full speed.

After the Red Star was discovered, Earth's leaders sent people to establish an experimental base there, named Creation. However, after that great purge, no one heard of this experimental base again.

The biggest difference between Red Star and Earth is that it doesn't rotate; the habitable side always faces the sun. It's closer to Earth in summer and farther away in winter. Without twin stars, there would probably never be night.

Because of this, creation came into being.

The environment here is so similar to Earth that it's the perfect place to conduct experiments on the origin of life, changes in species, and so on.

Because of this experimental base, the Earth's surface now possesses a simulated ecological environment. Humans here can be self-sufficient and sustain themselves. However, more advanced technologies still require external support, such as communication equipment, weapons, and other essential mineral resources. Without these, the people here would live like they were in ancient times.

Later arrivals were very satisfied with the self-sufficient life here, unaware that thousands of meters beneath their feet lay the site of the most advanced technology development in the entire universe.

How much further?

After walking a long way with Xiang Wan, Song Yang became somewhat anxious.

As night deepens, many nocturnal animals begin to stir. Mutant creatures like centipedes, scorpions, and snakes possess incredibly keen senses. If they cannot find shelter soon, they risk being devoured and torn apart by the monster.

Grylls walked at the back, holding the little boy's hand.

Previously, the mutated monsters only hunted and searched for food outside human settlements. This time, with their full-scale attack on humans, it's likely that there's nothing left to satisfy their hunger on the outskirts. The defenses of the human base have completely collapsed, and along with these facilities, the fragile hearts of humans, who have lived too comfortably and forgotten their animal instincts, have also collapsed.
