Chapter 579 Alien Battlefield (Part 4)

"Lassie, are you sure you're not mistaken?"

Grylls squeezed the little boy's hand tightly, but the boy remained silent.

Xiang Wan turned around and said calmly, "My parents never lie. If you don't want to go, I'll go in and find them myself."

After saying that, she walked away without looking back towards a small path in the mountains.

Song Yang hesitated for a moment, then turned to Grien and said, "Now that we're here, whether it's true or not, I'm going to give it a try."

He quickened his pace and caught up with Xiang Wan.

Grylls and the little boy exchanged a glance, then followed him.

The trees in the mountains and forests were either fallen or broken, and even before you got close, you could smell the stench of urine.

The rats swarmed in, their direction discernible from the fallen trees and the marks on the ground.

Xiang Wan headed straight for the area where the giant rats were most active, without glancing at anything around her the whole way.

She was racing against time, trying to enter the world before the rats returned to their nests.

Song Yang and Grian followed closely behind, their expressions gradually becoming serious.

If Xiang Wan hadn't said those words earlier, her current behavior would probably be no different from courting death.

After walking briskly for about half an hour, Xiang Wan arrived at the entrance of a cave that was about ten meters high.

Since they hadn't expected to go into a cave, neither Song Yang nor Grian brought any lighting equipment.

The ecological environment of Red Star is modeled after Earth; not a single bioluminescent plant from other planets has been planted there. Xiang Wan, however, is unaffected. Even without specifically cultivating the Three Pure Ones Scripture after arriving here, her strong mental power makes finding her way in the dark no problem.

"You stay at the cave entrance, I'll go in."

"No, it's too dangerous."

Song Yang stopped Xiang Wan. In his view, she was no different from throwing her life away, even though his own actions were no different from throwing his life away.

"You want to go in? Do you even know where the entrance is?" Xiang Wan didn't give him a chance to say anything else. "If we delay any longer, the rats will return, and we'll all die."

"Besides hiding places, does the lab have any weapons?"

"have no idea."

"I'll go with you."

Song Yang pulled Xiang Wan inside, seemingly even more anxious than she was, the one leading the way.

They couldn't see anything inside the cave, and there were shattered bones everywhere under their feet. Song Yang held onto Xiang Wan tightly, afraid they would get lost.

Rat burrows, especially those dug by rats as large as small hills, are not only deep but also intricately crisscrossed. A moment's carelessness could easily lead to getting lost.

Xiang Wan walked forward without hesitation, which reassured Song Yang. He was truly afraid that his one and only gamble with his life would end up being inexplicably ruined by Xiang Wan.

After descending several dozen meters, they heard a series of squeaking sounds. The sounds were faint, and there weren't many of them; they were probably baby mice that had recently been born. But even these baby mice were larger and more robust than a person.

Xiang Wan wanted to go that way, but Song Yang held onto her tightly.

"The entrance is right behind there, are you sure you don't want to go?"

Song Yang gritted his teeth. He suspected that Xiang Wan had deliberately led him to the rat's nest.

There are so many passages in the cave, you could just wander around them, so why did you have to go right in front of the giant rat cub?

"Too dangerous."

"There's no time. Besides, don't you want to raise one as a mount?"

Song Yang almost knelt down before Xiang Wan.

Keeping rats as mounts? Have you lost your mind?!

Are you sure you're not dreaming?

"Why not try a mouse whose eyes haven't opened yet?"

Stunned by Xiang Wan's outlandish idea, Song Yang was caught off guard and Xiang Wan broke free from his grasp.

Hearing her footsteps fade into the distance, Song Yang gritted his teeth and followed. He was prepared to die, but to his surprise, Xiang Wan, standing in front of the mice, hummed a tune that made all the little mice open their eyes.

Pairs of blood-red eyes, like searchlights, pierced straight at him, and Song Yang almost collapsed to his knees.

The singing continued, but the mice's eyes seemed to have changed, gradually becoming docile.

By the light of those eyes, Song Yang even saw Xiang Wan reach out and stroke the heads of the hairless rats. The key point was that the rats seemed to be enjoying it.

Song Yang felt that nothing he had ever seen in his life was as surprising and shocking as what was happening in front of him.

The thin figure gradually grew taller in his eyes.

"Alright, let's go."

When Song Yang came to his senses, he saw Xiang Wan turn around and walk behind the rats, but the rats didn't move at all.

He moved slowly, stepping carefully in the evening's footprints, and passed over the baby mice.

He grabbed Xiang Wan's wrist again, wanting to ask her many questions, but unable to find the words.

Xiang Wan knew she had shocked him, but she didn't care.

People who meet by chance and come together are not even sure if they will survive to the end, so what difference does it make whether they know the truth or not?

Outside the cave, Grylls and the little boy found a secluded spot to hide, their anxiety growing stronger as time went on.

The little boy wanted to speak, but was afraid that his voice would attract the giant beast, so he had to desperately cover his mouth to prevent himself from making a sound.

Grylls held him tightly in his arms, constantly using happy memories of his past with his wife, children, and grandchildren to mask his fear of the present and the future.

The lizard's carcass was quickly devoured, leaving the hard-shelled centipede lying to the side, where it was torn to pieces by the rat's claws.

The rats were enjoying this unexpected feast, unaware that a large golden snake was lurking beneath a nearby building, ready to pounce.

"Found it."
