Xiang Wan exclaimed in surprise and dug a lever out of the soil in the cave wall.
The lever had been buried for more than half a century and was covered with a layer of rough rust.
Upon hearing this, Song Yang followed the lever and used his hands to dig the soil outwards.
After working for a while, the two saw a round metal disc with a lever on one side.
"Give it a try."
As Xiang Wan spoke, she used both hands to pull the lever to one side.
The clicking sound stopped after a short while.
"It's stuck, come here."
He made way for Song Yang to take his place.
He dared not use too much force, for fear of breaking the lever. He also dared not use too little force, for fear that the mechanism under the lever would rust and prevent the disc from opening.
"Squeak—"
The screams that echoed through the sky were heard even by Xiang Wan and Song Yang, who had gone deep into the rat hole.
"Oh no! The giant rat is heading back to its nest! Quick!"
Song Yang strained, and sweat beaded on his forehead.
Xiang Wan wasn't idle either; she helped him push it out with all her might.
Click, click, click, whoosh!
A gust of air emerged from the hole under the disc, and then the disc slowly rose, revealing a bright white light underneath.
"Success! Go down quickly and see if there are any weapons."
Without saying a word, Song Yang bent down and crawled into the passage under the disc.
This entrance is the vent for creation. After the laboratory was shut down, all the vents were closed. This is the closest vent to the surface that Xiang Wan knows of, and thankfully it's still usable.
Xiang Wan didn't go downstairs. Instead, she said to Song Yang, "You go down first. I'll go pick up Grian and the others."
"The rat horde is coming back. Without weapons, we're just going to die!"
"I know, don't worry, I have a way."
Before Song Yang could speak again, Xiang Wan had already started walking back the way she came.
As Song Yang watched Xiang Wan walk away, he silently vowed that if he survived, he would protect her for the rest of his life!
