Chapter 638 Vampire Hunter (Seventeen)

Stepping out of the room, the hall had become very quiet. Several guards approached and invited Audra to the council chamber at the back of the hall.

Xiang Wan and Simon were not allowed to enter the formal meeting.

Before entering, Audra leaned down and whispered in Xiang Wan's ear, "Don't wander around. Wait for me to come out."

Xiang Wan nodded, and the magnificent golden door slowly closed in Audra's slightly smiling eyes.

Without Audra's protection, Xiang Wan could feel countless curious or malicious gazes wherever she went. Simon and the others did not pay much attention to Xiang Wan, but instead stood on guard to one side of the hall, sizing up the other princes' subordinates.

Hey, over here!

As they passed a stone pillar, someone called out to Xiang Wan.

She was a young woman, radiating enthusiasm and energy. Her eyes were large, bright, and very expressive, and her loose, curly hair swayed gently with her movements, falling to her chest. She wasn't very tall, only reaching about shoulder height, but that was the kind of height difference people commonly refer to—the kind where you could kiss her just by bending down.

It is said that the eyes are the windows to the soul. This woman is simple-minded, sweet-looking, and most importantly, she is human, just like Xiang Wan.

In this place full of vampires, encountering a human who moves freely naturally evoked a sense of familiarity for Xiang Wan, who hadn't been able to freely communicate with others for over half a year since her transmigration.

Looking around and seeing that not many people were paying attention, Xiang Wan flicked her robe and walked behind the stone pillar, completely concealing the woman's figure.

“I saw you the moment you walked in. You were brought along by the prince, weren’t you?”

Xiang Wan nodded, and the woman became excited, reaching out to grab her robe. Her soft voice was filled with excitement, "That's wonderful! I haven't seen anyone like me in so long. My name is Susan, what's yours?"

Xiang Wan hesitated for a moment before uttering two words, "Xiang Wan".

It had been a long time since she'd heard anyone call her that. Meeting Susan, Xiang Wan suddenly wanted her to call her by her real name. Perhaps this was fate. Just like some people, you can know each other your whole life and never truly connect. But with others, it only takes a few seconds to feel like you've known them forever.

"Xiang Wan, what a beautiful name. Can we be friends?"

Susan looked pleading, and Xiang Wan chuckled and nodded.

The moment Xiang Wan told her her real name, she decided that Susan should be her friend.

"Finally, I have friends. I thought, I thought..."

As she spoke, Susan's eyes filled with tears, almost overflowing.

A delicate woman always evokes pity, even if Xiang Wan identifies herself as a woman. She didn't have a handkerchief, so she rolled up her sleeves and wiped away the woman's tears, comforting her, "You're good like this; you'll have many friends."

"They all ignore me, calling me a traitor to humanity. I just... I just like him, is that wrong?"

Susan sniffed, and seeing Xiang Wan remain silent, she quickly burst into laughter through her tears and pulled him toward the side passageway.

“Let me tell you, this place is no fun at all, but he insisted on dragging me here, saying it wasn’t safe for me to stay in the castle. Actually, this is the most unsafe place; you could run into bad guys at any time. Xiang Wan, I haven’t been able to talk so freely in a long time. Let’s go to a small room and chat. I know a room that’s very clean and hasn’t been used by anyone else.”

So, Xiang Wan followed Susan to the innermost part of a passage next to the hall, where there was a door that was built quite well hidden and was indeed not easy to be discovered.

Susan was probably too lonely, because she kept talking to Xiang Wan. She talked about the places she used to live, her parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and her experiences, just like a little girl who had been confined for a long time and found a best friend to confide in.

Xiang Wan smiled and listened, feeling a sense of peace and tranquility, as if she had returned to modern times, found a quiet room, and was chatting with her friends, sharing heartfelt words.

After talking for a while, Susan fell silent when she finally mentioned the man she was talking about.

"I didn't know he was a prince. Falling in love with him was completely unexpected. My parents don't want me, my relatives and friends ignore me, and I'm disliked wherever I go. Being with him makes me happy, but I'm mostly filled with anxiety and fear. Without him by my side, I'm so lonely. Xiang Wan, what should I do? Am I really making a mistake?"

Susan, who used to give off a very sunny and cheerful vibe, has now become quiet, which makes Xiang Wan feel somewhat depressed.

Who isn't struggling and tormented between love and family? It would be great to have the best of both worlds, but how many good things can come to pass in this world?

Take her, for example. She was involuntarily bound to a system, traveling through various worlds because of love. She also had family and friends, but because she felt she would eventually return, she neglected them. Seeing Susan, Xiang Wan felt as if she were seeing her former self, and couldn't help but feel a pang of pity and sympathy.

She didn't know how to comfort Susan, so she reached out and gently touched her head, smoothing her long hair.

Susan's tears fell in large drops, and she suddenly hugged Xiang Wan, bursting into tears.

At this moment, perhaps what Susan needs is not comfort and sympathy, but a strong shoulder to lean on, so that she can release her emotions freely.

"Holy crap, Xiang Wan, you're amazing! She's the protagonist of this world!"

The system's sudden voice startled Xiang Wan. However, she quickly regained her composure. A woman whom even she, a transmigrator, couldn't help but feel protective of—it was perfectly reasonable for her to be the protagonist.
