Chapter 7 Cinderella's Comeback (Part 7)

"Come here quickly," Mother Wang called to the two sisters, introducing the man they had just been talking to. It turned out that the man who bought the estate was also surnamed Wang, and was not an outsider. He was a distant relative of Mother Wang, and because the two families lived relatively close, Father Wang often had business dealings with this man because of this relationship.

After the two sisters greeted each other, Xiang Wan secretly pulled Wang Mu aside and asked, "Mom, has our manor been sold?"

"Why are you suddenly concerned about this?" Wang's mother was a little surprised. Her second daughter, who was usually carefree and only cared about dressing up, would ask this question, which surprised her.

"Mom, are we really going to live with the Qin family from now on and never coming back?"

"Of course, your Uncle Qin and I have already signed a marriage agreement, so why would we move back in?" Mother Wang tapped Xiang Wan's forehead with amusement.

"That's not what I meant, Mom!" Xiang Wan stamped her foot anxiously.

"Are you afraid we'll be bullied if we stay at the Qin family's house? My silly daughter, your mother is not one to be bullied, and of course I won't let you two be bullied either. Have you forgotten what I've taught you all these years? It's our duty not to bully others, and if we're bullied, we won't retaliate. Humph, that's not the kind of daughter I raised."

Xiang Wan's mouth gaped open for a moment, never expecting her usually gentle and refined mother to say such a thing, but it suited her taste quite well.

Thinking about it this way, Xiang Wan calmed down a little. But since she had already asked, she was afraid she wouldn't be able to get over it without finding out the reason.

"Mom, that's not what I meant. I meant, should we leave something behind so that we have something to rely on no matter what happens?"

"The fact that you can say these things shows that my teachings haven't been in vain." Wang's mother was both pleased that her daughter had become sensible and heartbroken that she didn't have a complete family to grow up in without any worries. "My dear daughter, I've thought about this for a long time, but the timing isn't right. Let's take a walk around the manor with your sister later. After all, it's where you both grew up, and we may not have many more opportunities to come back in the future."

Looking at the Queen Mother's loving yet slightly sad eyes, Xiang Wan felt a pang of sorrow. In the memories she had received, the Queen Mother had always been shrewd in maintaining the family business, but in the end, she had fallen into such a predicament, making her sigh at the cruel twists of fate.

However, seeing how easily the Queen Mother chatted with the distant relatives surnamed Wang, Xiang Wan was no longer in a hurry. Knowing the Queen Mother's personality, she would never let herself suffer a loss. She would rather take this time to properly tour the manor that nominally belonged to them and learn about their current living conditions.

There used to be a few helpers at the manor, all of whom were farmers living nearby, but they had all been dismissed and sent home. The two sisters strolled around the manor slowly, taking in the scenery, though Xiang Wan was the one doing most of the looking around, occasionally asking Xiang Xia what they used to do and what they did now.

Xiang Xia was also a little sad at this moment, thinking that this was the last time she would stroll around her own manor. She was not surprised that Xiang Wan asked so many questions, assuming that she was also feeling uncomfortable, so she answered every question.

Although the manor wasn't large, the two sisters strolled around at their leisure, and an afternoon passed quickly. By dinnertime, Xiang Wan and the others had already returned to their living room.

Only one of the older cooks they hired remained, and she was busy in the kitchen. The mother and her two daughters sat at the table, each with their own plate, creating a very warm and cozy atmosphere.
