Shi Lan stared at him coldly for a while, then turned her gaze to see the maid cleaning up the floor and bringing over a bowl of freshly cooked porridge. She said, "It's getting late. Would you like something to eat?"
Xun Shiba shook his head, and Shi Lan waved to the maid.
The maid quietly withdrew.
A few noises came from outside the door. Shi Lan peeked out and saw that the maid who had just left had come back in and said that the front courtyard had invited her.
Before he could finish speaking, Xun Shiba panicked and hugged his shoulders, shrinking back into the couch. "I'm not going, I'm not going."
Shi Lan frowned. How could he refuse the invitation from the patriarch?
"Go find a set of simple clothes," Shi Lan ordered without room for argument.
The maidservant responded and went to the next room to rummage through the chests and trunks.
Shi Lan half-crouched on the couch and forcefully pulled Xun Shiba over, half-forcing him to change his clothes. Then, worried that the people outside were getting impatient, she quickly pushed him out, saying, "Go quickly, don't keep the head of the family waiting."
Xun Shiba staggered and turned to look at Shi Lan.
That cold, resentful look made it seem as if Shi Lan was his mortal enemy.
Shi Lan paused for a moment, then smiled speechlessly.
It's like trying to plaster mud on a wall.
However, this is for the best. Now that the heads of the two clans in the front courtyard are present, if he loses face, even if the patriarch shows him some leniency out of consideration for his deceased younger brother, the others will still be dissatisfied with him. If this continues, Xun Shiba's life will probably not be easy.
