The night was cool and still. Shi Lan knelt on a small couch under the eaves, leaning against a pillar, seemingly resting with her eyes closed, but in reality, she was practicing the Chaos Technique.
A sound of tearing cloth came from outside the courtyard. Shi Lan's eyelashes trembled slightly, and she slowly opened her eyes.
A dim, yellow lamp fell to the ground in a beautiful arc.
The flames suddenly shot up, igniting the lanterns, and the intense flames illuminated the path.
Xun Shiba was scolding the maid who had been kicked to the ground. He ran his finger along the hem of his Taoist robe and pointed to a corner that had been torn by a branch. He shouted angrily, "This is a piece of silk worth several cartloads of rice! You stupid thing, how could you damage it?"
The servant hurriedly knelt down and apologized repeatedly.
Xun Shiba had just gotten himself into a bad mood in the front yard, but because he was in the wrong, he had to hold back. Now he had a good excuse to vent his anger.
Shi Lan frowned.
The news of Xun Shiba injuring someone has spread throughout the entire Xun family. Everyone knows why he went to the front yard. At this moment, there are countless eyes watching around the yard. If he were to reprimand people so recklessly and it were to reach the ears of the head of the family or other uncles, he would probably be in big trouble.
After a quick thought, Shi Lan realized that if she didn't find a way to fulfill the original owner's wish of not being sold off as merchandise, it would be difficult to achieve her goal of following such a master.
During her time here, Shi Lan had come to fully understand that if she did not want to be sold, she could only become a commoner. She was currently a slave of the Xun family. If she wanted to become a commoner from a good family, her master would have to write her a release letter and she would have to go to the government office, which was essentially a decoration, to cancel her slave status.
Xun Shiba now regards her as his strongest martial force. Even if he makes unparalleled contributions, he will only hold her tightly in his palm and will never let her leave.
Shi Lan squinted at the maid, who seemed to have seen her in the main courtyard before. Since Xun Shiba dared to reprimand her like that, she must be following Xun Wu.
Considering Xun Wu's current power and status in the family, as well as the idea she had just come up with, Shi Lan pursed her lips, picked up the lantern by the door and went over to greet him, saying, "Young master has just returned from the front yard. Everyone in the courtyards is watching this place. If you really want to deal with it, why not wait until tomorrow and let the steward handle it?"
Xun Shiba was venting his anger when Shi Lan's voice rang out. He glared at her fiercely, remembering how she had pushed him out to be humiliated. It felt as if a bucket of boiling oil had been poured into his chest, and the vicious words he had been silently uttering came out without thinking.
"What are you doing here? Are you waiting to see me make a fool of myself?"
Shi Lan looked puzzled and asked strangely, "My lord is my master. When the master is honored, the servant is honored. Why would I want my lord to be embarrassed?"
Xun Shiba gave a cold laugh, shoving aside the lantern she was shining her light on. His voice was a few decibels lower, "You've made me go to the front yard time and time again, causing me to be wantonly humiliated. What else could it be but watching me make a fool of myself?"
Having said that, Xun Shiba angrily kicked aside the maid blocking his way, glanced at Shi Lan with her eyes downcast, and shuffled forward in her wooden clogs.
Shi Lan no longer wanted to speak to him because of his misplaced anger.
He crippled someone's legitimate son. The Shan family just wants to vent their anger verbally. It's not like they lost a piece of his flesh. Why can't they take responsibility?
Xun Wu must have gone to great lengths to suppress this matter, and not only is he ungrateful, but he also harbors resentment.
I really don't know where he gets so much sense of entitlement.
Shi Lan glanced indifferently at the person on the ground and said in a low voice, "Go down."
Ignoring his gratitude, she followed Xun Shiba back to the hall.
A maidservant brought over some liquid, which Shi Lan then presented to her.
Xun Shiba swung his palm, and the liquid splashed out in a rippling motion.
Shi Lan frowned, removed the splattered liquid from her hands, and took a handkerchief to wipe them clean.
Xun Shiba gave her a disapproving look and said with disdain, "Clumsy as can be, go out and bring Abi over."
Shi Lan replied casually, "Abi's face is frighteningly swollen; I'm afraid she'll frighten you, my lord."
Xun Shiba coldly watched her calmly wipe the water stains on the ground, then gently wipe the stains on her sleeves, preparing to get up.
Such a calm and composed demeanor.
When her master was humiliated, she acted as if it were none of her business. Xun Shiba felt a chill in his heart. What did she mean by "the master's glory is the servant's glory"? If that were true, why didn't she deal with Shan Shier in the first place? Then he wouldn't have had this mess.
Xun Shiba stroked the pattern on his cuff, the scene of being forced to admit his mistake by his uncle and being constantly ridiculed and mocked by the Shan family flashing relentlessly through his mind.
Xun Shiba's face flushed. Even though the group of people were no longer in front of him, their faces and words still echoed around him, disturbing him so much that he couldn't help but kick forward in anger, knocking Shi Lan, who was only focused on the ground, to the ground.
Shi Lan tilted her head back, her expression somewhat blank.
Xun Shiba suddenly stood up, without waiting for a response.
Shi Lan nimbly flipped over and moved backward a few times, just managing to dodge.
In the past, the original owner was submissive to Xun Shiba. If Xun Shiba said east, she would not say west. If he asked her to beat a dog, she would not chase a chicken. In addition, she was highly skilled in martial arts and had superb swordsmanship. Xun Shiba was always more lenient towards her and never laid a finger on the original owner.
Shi Lan knew this, which is why she wasn't on guard and got kicked right in the face.
Xun Shiba originally wanted to help her up when he saw her fall, but when he saw her move, he was stunned for a moment, and then flew into a rage.
"You dare to hide?"
Shi Lan calmly stood up, brushed the dust off her clothes, and said, "Knowing that my lord was going to kick me, why didn't I dodge?"
Xun Shiba was so angry that her face turned red. Even if he had really kicked her, she would have had to take it, let alone that it was just an accident.
Shi Lan put the handkerchief aside and turned to get the soft mattress.
