Chapter 338 Awakening the Cold-Hearted Head of the Family (Part 9)

Beside the narrow single bed, Shi Lan dragged over a small coffee table and placed it across the side of the bed, then pushed the table toward Ning Yuze, saying, "Eat."

Ning Yuze glanced at the steaming noodles and asked, "Aren't you going to eat?"

Shi Lan turned to the side, tilting her head to flip through the medicine, and replied casually, "I'll take it later."

Ning Yuze looked around the almost empty room, and suddenly a thought popped into his head, a look of disbelief on his face: "You don't actually have this little bit of food left, do you?"

Shi Lan's face turned slightly red. Because of her debts, she had no extra money to stockpile rice and flour. In addition, after starting work at the mansion, she ate all three meals there every day, so naturally there was no food left here.

Ning Yuze gave her a complicated look and said in a low voice, "Go get a bowl, we'll each have half."

Shi Lan hadn't planned on having a proper meal tonight, so upon hearing this, she waved her hand and said, "No need, you should eat more now. I'll just have some fruit later."

Ning Yuze pursed his lips. He seemed unaccustomed to being rejected, and his tone was somewhat unpleasant: "Hurry up."

Shi Lan didn't want to argue with him over such a small matter, so she went to the kitchen, got a small bowl, picked out half a bowl of noodles, and then scooped out most of a bowl of noodle soup.

As soon as he sat down, Ning Yuze picked up an egg from the bowl and took it from his hand.

Shi Lan tried to stop him, but Ning Yuze placed the food in her bowl without any room for argument and said simply, "Eat."

The lights were dim, Ning Yuze's eyebrows were half-lowered, his fine hair partially covering his forehead, his proud eyebrows were half-lowered, and his beautifully curved lips were tightly pursed, as if he was in an extremely bad mood.

Shi Lan glanced at it stealthily, but didn't dare to say anything. She just silently lowered her head, picked up the egg, and took a small bite.

Ning Yuze's ears twitched slightly as he heard a soft chewing sound coming from across the table. He then picked up another egg and began to eat it elegantly and quickly.

In less than fifteen minutes, the two finished their simple dinner. Shi Lan took the dishes back to the kitchen and took the fruit over to wash.

Listening to the continuous sound of water, Ning Yuze quietly looked at the peeling, mottled ceiling above him.

Ever since he left here drunk last time, he has been having people investigate and follow her. Apart from knowing that she is heavily in debt and works every day to pay it off, there seems to be nothing suspicious about her.

Recently, the pressure from the old mansion has been getting increasingly intense. Ning Yuze knows his own problem. In the past thirty years, she is the first woman he has not rejected. After observing her, he knows her basic situation, but in order to further explore her true nature, he ordered the housekeeper to bring her to the mansion. He hopes that she will not disappoint him, because this is related to whether his future life needs to be changed.

Cameras were installed in every corner of the mansion. Whenever he saw her looking around warily like a small animal, he couldn't help but chuckle. It could be said that his greatest pleasure every day was watching her.

But this pleasure came to an abrupt end when she asked the housekeeper for an advance on her salary and explained her reasons.

Ning Yuze then remembered that before she came to work here, she had said that she would not live here because she wanted to wait for a lost friend.

Ning Yuze was furious. Fortunately, the shrewd butler gave her the phone number of one of the men who worked for the Ning family. When she learned from that man that the person she was waiting for was him, Ning Yuze didn't know how to describe his feelings. He didn't want to wait a moment longer and rushed over to find her without thinking. As a result, he fell into an ambush. Fortunately, he was agile and only suffered minor injuries.

Thinking of those ruthless characters, a fierce glint flashed in Ning Yuze's eyes; his blood hadn't been shed in vain.

In the kitchen, Shi Lan turned off the tap, brought in a few apples, and saw Ning Yuze with his eyes half-closed, seemingly dozing off, so she quickly tiptoed.

Carefully approaching him, Shi Lan sat down on the edge of the bed, secretly comparing him to Hao Ze.

To be fair, Ning Yuze's facial features are softer than Haoze's. However, he has a high nose bridge and his eyes are as indifferent as Haoze's. This makes him only somewhat similar to Haoze in expression. If it weren't for the Soul-Destroying Nail, she probably wouldn't have recognized him as Haoze at all.

Shi Lan watched him quietly for a long time, and after sensing that he seemed to have really fallen asleep, she sighed silently, leaned down, and slowly approached Ning Yuze.

Now, this is all she can do for him. In order to help him regain consciousness as soon as possible, she should put aside her reserve as soon as possible.

Shi Lan closed her eyes and slowly moved closer.

His subtle breath, carrying his scent, wafted towards her. Shi Lan's heart pounded like a drum, and her face burned like fire, but nothing could stop her from getting closer.

Ning Yuze squinted as he watched her blushing face as she leaned closer to him. She was so shy that her body was trembling like a leaf, but she still stubbornly pressed herself against him.

Are you going to force a kiss on me?

Seeing that the rosy lips were only half an inch away from his own, Ning Yuze hesitated for a long time before finally speaking.

The man's scent hit her face. Shi Lan never expected that he was still awake. She gasped and sprang backward as if she were a spring, wishing she could immediately hide in the wall.

However, the wall was too thick, so Shi Lan could only press against it with all her might, and after a while, she finally managed to reply, "You're not asleep?"

Ning Yuze sighed helplessly, gesturing with his eyes to the fruit plate she had put down. "I'm waiting for the fruit you've washed," he said, then looked with admiration at a bright blush spreading from her fair neck down to her ears and up her cheeks.

Under that intense gaze, Shi Lan lowered her head and muttered to herself, unsure of what to say.
