The grand drama of the Liu family has officially begun. At this moment, Shi Lan had just finished registering online and was preparing to pack her things to go to school when a pleasant bell rang at the gate.
Shi Lan raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised. Cheng Hao had been away on a business trip for the past few days, so no one should have come to visit.
After peering through the peephole for a moment, Shi Lan frowned, tilted her head and thought for a while before opening the door. There stood a handsome man in a wheelchair.
Who are you looking for?
The man looked up at Shi Lan, and after a long while, he gave a faint smile. "Don't you recognize me?"
Shi Lan blinked, staring intently at him. His features were familiar, yet somehow unfamiliar. A scene from when she was receiving memories flashed through her mind, and her expression immediately turned sour. "It's you?"
Remembering how the original owner stood helplessly at the hospital entrance, weeping, Shi Lan felt extremely distressed.
"Aren't you going to invite me in?" The man smiled, glancing around the room.
Shi Lan stretched out her arm to block the door and said indifferently, "There's no need for that, Yi Ran. You have nothing to talk to me about. You're not welcome here."
Yi Ran let out a soft breath. To be honest, he had expected Shi Lan's reaction, but facing it in person still made him feel really bad.
“Lanlan, it was wrong of me to leave without saying goodbye back then, but I had my reasons,” Yi Ran said tenderly, his eyes filled with affection. “I’m not here today to ask for your forgiveness; I just want to tell you the whole truth about what happened back then.”
Shi Lan lowered her head slightly, her gaze sweeping over Yi Ran for a moment before lowering her arm.
Well, Yi Ran is a hidden pain in the original owner's heart, and she must have been waiting for this explanation for a long time.
Yi Ran twitched his fingers slightly, and the wheelchair slowly slid forward. Shi Lan turned to the side to let him in.
Out of politeness, Shi Lan poured a glass of water and placed it on the coffee table in front of Yi Ran.
Yi Ran nodded politely and slowly explained the reason why he left back then.
At that time, Liu Jinxiang had repeatedly suffered setbacks with Shi Lan, and unwilling to give up, he went to Yi Ran and asked him to leave Shi Lan.
Yi Ran was stubborn and looked down on Liu Jinxiang, a nouveau riche, so he refused him without hesitation. Liu Jinxiang held a grudge, and one night, seeing that Yi Ran was alone, he pushed him off the building, breaking Yi Ran's leg. There was no one around at the time, and Liu Jinxiang ran away. By the time Yi Ran crawled outside and was rescued, it was too late. Even after receiving treatment abroad, he is still in his current condition.
After hearing all this, Shi Lan asked him, "So, you just kept disappearing and never showed up again?"
Yi Ran nodded.
Shi Lan smiled, but her eyes were cold. "If that's the case, why don't you just keep disappearing?"
Yi Ran pursed her lips and remained silent.
Shi Lan stood up, opened the door, looked at him, and said, "Alright, I understand what you've said. Please leave now."
Yi Ran lowered his head, his shoulders slumped slightly, his dark hair fell down, obscuring his eyebrows and eyes, and his usually straight back was bent, adding to his sorrow and loneliness.
Shi Lan stood by the door, her heart as hard as iron, unmoved.
Yi Ran sighed softly, knowing that some things, once lost, can never be recovered.
With a long finger pressing the button, the wheelchair slowly moved through the doorway.
Shi Lan slammed the door shut, her back pressed against it, her chest rising and falling slightly.
A strange mix of emotions surged within her, and Shi Lan clutched her chest, letting out a long breath.
Yi Ran did have his reasons, and it wasn't that she couldn't forgive him. It's just that she was no longer the person he once knew and loved. He didn't want her to be with him anymore, and she didn't want her interference to affect the original owner's image in Yi Ran's eyes. Perhaps watching from afar was best for both of them. (To be continued.)
