Chapter 8
That snake was as thick as a wrist, and Rong Rong turned pale with fright.
After waiting for a while and seeing that Du Shaofeng didn't move, Rong Rong's heart sank instantly.
"Du Shaofeng?" After regaining her composure, Rong Rong stretched out her finger and pointed at Du Shaofeng's body from a distance.
Unfortunately, the person remained motionless, and it was unclear whether they were dead or alive.
"666, will the male lead get into trouble?" Rong Rong was both panicked and confused.
"The male lead is the chosen one, how could something happen to him?" 666 comforted, "At most, he's just a fool who died early, a modern domineering CEO who transmigrated here."
Rong Rong frowned slightly and remained silent.
666 thought it had successfully comforted Rong Rong, but little did it know that its words only made Rong Rong feel worse.
"Du Shaofeng?" Rong Rong moved closer to Du Shaofeng and gave him a hard push on the shoulder.
Du Shaofeng remained quiet, but Rong Rong felt a lump in her throat, and tears welled up in her eyes.
"Wow!" Suddenly, Du Shaofeng looked up sharply, his hands outstretched like claws beside his face, resembling a large tiger.
There wasn't a trace of pain on his face; all he showed was a silly grin!
Rong Rong was both surprised and delighted. After realizing she had been tricked, she grabbed Du Shaofeng's ear and twisted it halfway around.
"It hurts! It hurts!" Du Shaofeng's eyes reddened.
"Serves you right for being naughty!" Rong Rong scolded, but then loosened her grip. "The snake didn't bite you, did it?"
As she spoke, Rong Rong pushed Du Shaofeng's chest again. She saw that the snake's head had been snapped off, and Du Shaofeng was fine except for his clothes being dirty.
"Idiot!" Rong Rong pinched Du Shaofeng's nose, turned to leave, but was pulled back by Du Shaofeng.
"My wife, look!" Du Shaofeng held something up like a precious treasure and presented it to Rong Rong.
Rong Rong looked down and saw a lifelike little cat made of foxtail grass lying in Du Shaofeng's palm.
"Where did this come from?" Rong Rong picked up the kitten, her face full of surprise. The kitten was fluffy and incredibly cute.
"I made it up!" Du Shaofeng was incredibly proud.
"You?" Rong Rong asked doubtfully.
"Really! It was the old man in my dream who taught me!" Du Shaofeng said anxiously. He wanted to say that he was neither a fool nor a good-for-nothing, and that he could do many things.
"He's just a guy with white hair and a white beard..." Du Shaofeng tried desperately to explain, and soon he was covered in sweat.
Rong Rong helplessly tossed a handkerchief to Du Shaofeng, "Alright, I believe you!"
"Hehe, my wife is so good." Du Shaofeng immediately grinned foolishly and picked up a handkerchief. "My wife is so good, so I knitted a wife!"
As he spoke, Du Shaofeng turned his gaze to the kitten in Rong Rong's hand. Rong Rong's smile froze, and she held up the kitten with a face full of question marks.
"My wife is like a little kitten, so cute!" Du Shaofeng ruffled Rong Rong's hair. "And so fragrant and soft!"
"Shut up!" Rong Rong slapped Du Shaofeng's hand away with her paw, much like a cat with its fur standing on end.
Du Shaofeng dared not say anything more, but he became even more convinced that Rong Rong was just a cat, and he needed to make up a few more wives for her.
That day, the two stayed in the forest for a long time, until they had another meal of roasted meat before returning.
After that, Du Shaofeng would give Rong Rong a straw-woven kitten every day, and then receive a loving slap from Rong Rong.
Unbeknownst to them, the day Rong Rong was to push Du Shaofeng off the cliff was drawing ever closer.
"What are you worried about? Can't bear to part with that fool?"
Seeing Rong Rong standing in the peach blossom forest for a long time without going back, 666 finally couldn't help but feel a little jealous.
"Tell me, after the modern-day Du Shaofeng transmigrated here, where did the idiot Du Shaofeng go?"
Unlike usual, Rong Rong didn't comfort the jealous 666, but instead asked a question gently.
Rong Rong was unusually serious, and 666 stopped joking around. "Dissipate? Or merge into one?"
I'm not entirely sure about 666, since it's a new system.
Rong Rong recalled similar time-travel novels she had read before, and combined with her own current situation, she had a rough guess in her mind, a guess that made her feel somewhat uncomfortable.
"Perhaps it's death?" Rong Rong murmured, her eyes filled with sadness.
666 remained silent; this was a process the host inevitably had to go through, and it hoped that Rong Rong could see things clearly and get used to it soon.
Rong Rong stayed quietly for a long time. This was her first human friend, and it would be a lie to say she wasn't sad when they parted.
Fortunately, Rong Rong is easygoing and good at adjusting her emotions, and she quickly composed herself.
Just as she was about to leave, footsteps suddenly came from not far away, and Rong Rong quickly hid behind a tree.
It turned out to be several young ladies who had come here for a stroll.
"I never imagined that such a fairyland was hidden in the back mountain of Hanguang Temple. If it weren't for the princess, we would never have had the chance to see it!"
"Yes, only a princess can live in the backyard of Hanguang Temple."
"What's the point of having a place to live? I'd rather have a healthy body than stay here to recover from an illness."
"Princess, don't worry, everything will be alright!"
"Alright, let's not talk about that anymore. Anything interesting has happened lately?"
"Yes! General Yang has been arrested by the Dali Temple and is imprisoned!"
"General Yang? What? Father said there's been fighting at the border..."
Princess Ronglu spoke with anxiety, clearly showing her concern for General Yang.
"It's strange that General Yang was arrested even when there was war; it's said to be for treason!"
“Impossible! General Yang is loyal to the emperor and loves his country!” Princess Ronglu said firmly. “I will find my father to rescue General Yang! General Yang is innocent!” With that, she turned to leave.
"Wait! Princess, it was Prince Yu who handled the case."
"Prince Yu?!"
What followed was a long period of silence. Once the Prince Yu, whose word was law in the court, was made, no one could overturn it.
After Princess Ronglu accepted the news, the young lady who had just spoken hesitated again.
"It's said... the two of them got into this mess because of a woman..."
"Absolutely impossible!"
Princess Ronglu did not believe it.
General Yang aside, he has never been seen to treat any girl differently over the years.
Prince Yu was even worse; he was completely indifferent to women and ruthless.
"That's what everyone's saying..."
"That bitch must have been talking nonsense. If I find out who it is, I'll tear her mouth apart!"
Princess Ronglu's face was sinister, clearly indicating that she wasn't just making empty threats. The others didn't dare to breathe loudly, as they all knew that Princess Ronglu had designs on General Yang.
Only one troublemaker, with a quick glint in his eye, exclaimed, "I know! I heard it's a country girl named Rong Rong!"
"Ha, you lowly country bumpkin, how dare you slander the current general and regent! I'll send men to kill her right now!"
Princess Ronglu gave her maid a cold look, and the maid immediately nodded and left.
"What about the battle at the other side?" Princess Ronglu asked again.
"Prince Yu personally led the troops and has driven the people of the Southern Frontier out of the border, and has even captured two cities!"
The speaker's face was full of admiration, as were the ladies beside him.
The powerful regent Zhu Chunji was the object of admiration, respect, and love for countless young ladies.
They are the powerful and influential people that countless others aspire to curry favor with.
