The wine the madam had promised was served. Xu Yinzhu lifted the lid and took a sniff. "This smells like good wine. They really spared no expense."
Ye Jiu didn't know much about wine, but when she heard that it was good wine, her curiosity was piqued, so she poured herself a glass and wanted to taste what was so good about it.
——
They drank until dark before the pot of wine was finally finished. Xu Yinzhu paid the bill, and the two went their separate ways.
The wine did taste good, but it had a strong aftereffect. Fortunately, she had a good alcohol tolerance; she just felt a little dizzy.
With unsteady steps, Ye Jiu pushed open the gate of the house and immediately saw Yun Jia sitting in the courtyard.
He sat on the stone bench, playing chess with himself. The night wind blew, billowing his clothes. His thin body couldn't support the clothes, and his waist, which was hidden by the clothes, was vaguely revealed.
Leaves were blown down from the tree and landed on the chessboard on the stone table. Yun Jia picked up the fallen leaves and made another move.
The moonlight shone on his face, making him look even more like an immortal. Ye Jiu really couldn't bear to break this scene.
but……
Ye Jiu took off her outer robe and draped it over him. "Why are you sitting in the courtyard? Didn't I tell you not to catch a cold in the night wind? Why are you dressed so lightly? Where's Yun Shu? Why didn't he try to persuade you?"
Yun Shu was an orphan that Ye Jiu picked up three years ago. After teaching him well, he was put to serve Yun Jia.
Ye Jiu scooped him up in her arms. He was still holding a white chess piece he was about to place on the chessboard. Startled by her action, he let go of the piece, which fell to the ground and shattered with a "thud".
Ye Jiu didn't seem to care much as he kicked away the broken chess piece. "I'll make you a new set of chess tomorrow."
He gripped her clothes tightly; he had just smelled the strong scent of rouge and powder on her, indicating that more than one man had been near her.
An uncontrollable rage burned within him, and a gust of wind blew by, causing him to cough twice.
Ye Jiu tightened her arms around him. "Next time, wait for me to come inside. Don't let the wind blow in the yard."
The smell of alcohol and rouge on her was like a knife; the gentler her tone, the deeper the knife stabbed him.
He hooked his forearm around Ye Jiu's neck and asked casually, "Where did you go today?"
In reality, he clenched his fist so tightly that his nails dug into his flesh, refusing to let go.
What if she doesn't tell the truth? Does that mean she'll go again in the future?
Blood dripped from his palm and onto Ye Jiu's shoulder, and only then did he realize what he had done.
Feeling guilty for getting Ye Jiu's clothes dirty, he opened his mouth to apologize, but he held back. He wanted to hear her answer first.
"I went to a brothel. Xu Yinzhu took me there. She said a new brothel called Yihongyuan had opened. I thought it was a cosmetics shop and was just thinking of buying you some. I never imagined it was a brothel." Ye Jiu took him back to his room and put him on the bedside.
Then she began, "Since I'm already here, I figured I might as well broaden my horizons. I didn't touch any men, just listened to a few songs. Do I smell strongly of rouge?"
Ye Jiu raised her hand to smell herself. Indeed, the strong scent of rouge made her nauseous. Coupled with the alcohol she had been drinking, Ye Jiu gagged.
Ye Jiu fanned the air with her hand, trying to reduce the smell. "This smell is really awful. I promise it won't happen again next time. It's just that you have to change your clothes now."
Yun Jia looked dazed. "You won't do it again next time? You mean... you won't go anymore?"
Ye Jiu lowered her head and shook her clothes. "Yeah, I was just curious about what it was like inside. If I've already seen it, why would I go back?"
Yun Jia seemed to come alive at this moment, and said softly, "Those men are depraved and unclean. It's good that Xiao Jiu didn't touch them."
I'm cleaner than them, as long as I'm fine...
Ye Jiu neither shook her head nor agreed. It's hard to say. Times change. She's seen many times when people were poor and sold their sons into those kinds of places. It's not entirely about self-degradation, but about having no other choice.
After shivering for a while, I still couldn't get rid of the unpleasant smell on my body. "Fine, I'll go wash up and change my clothes first. Don't stay out in the wind anymore. You're not healthy to begin with, and if you catch a cold, you'll have to take medicine again."
"Summer is no problem."
Ye Jiu looked disapproving. "It's better to be careful. If there's a next time, I'll keep an eye on you and keep an eye on you all the time."
Yun Jia was stunned for a moment, and when he came to his senses, Ye Jiu was already gone. His face slowly turned redder and redder. If only... he could really be carried by Xiao Jiu...
He really didn't want to be apart from her for even a second.
——
Ye Jiu took off her clothes and then noticed a red mark on her shoulder. She brought it closer and smelled it; it looked like blood. The blood was still wet, so it was obviously left by Yun Jia.
No wonder he put his arm around her and didn't say anything even though his hand was injured.
——
Yun Shu knocked on Yun Jia's door and came in to deliver medicine for his injuries. "Master, this is medicine for your injuries from Miss. She asked me to tell you to apply the medicine as soon as you get injured next time, and not to hide it."
Yun Jia opened her right hand, the crescent-shaped marks left by her fingernails were still bleeding, and her hand was covered in blood.
He told Yunshu to put down the medicine, "You can go now, I'll get there myself."
Yun Shu couldn't persuade him otherwise, so she put down her clothes and went outside to wait for Ye Jiu to finish washing up and report back to her.
After washing up and changing into clean undergarments, Ye Jiu casually grabbed a towel to dry her hair. She was already feeling overwhelmed when Yun Shu told her that he wanted to take care of Yun Jia himself.
Eleven years have passed. How could she not know what kind of person he was? Because he didn't want to take the medicine, he didn't want to see the external wound medicine either. Whenever he was told to take the medicine himself, he would find a chance to throw it away. It was the same with applying the medicine. Ye Jiu was willing to guarantee that he would never apply it himself.
Ye Jiu threw down the towel, picked up the silk cloth, and pushed open the door to his room.
"Yunshu said you should apply the medicine yourself, so I came to see if you've finished."
Upon hearing this, Yun Jia hurriedly clenched her right hand and hid it behind her back.
Ye Jiu knew immediately from his expression that he definitely didn't have it, and sighed, "Give me your hand."
