Chapter 199 The Ruthless Patriarch 8 (1/2)

In the surveillance footage, Zixi had been lying down for five hours straight.

Pei Mozhi stared at the still blanket on the screen, his brows furrowing for the nth time.

"She skipped breakfast and only ate a couple of bites for lunch? Is she cultivating immortality or preparing to ascend to heaven?"

He stared at the plate of food the butler was serving.

"Is the young mistress perhaps... too tired?"

The butler gave a tactful reply.

tired?

Were you tired from eating hot pot last night?

He only checked the surveillance footage today because he had already finished his meeting, and the housekeeper said that Zhao Zixi hadn't come out for half a day and hadn't eaten.

Pei Mozhi gripped the spare key, his mind racing with conflicted thoughts as he frantically scrolled through his phone.

[Should we go in and check? Wouldn't that be too perverted? If we don't go in... isn't she hungry?]

But it turned out the door wasn't locked at all.

Afraid of being discovered by Zi Xi, he sneaked in stealthily.

As a result, while cleaning up the leftovers, she kicked her slipper and almost fell flat on her face, but the noise did not wake the sleeping princess at all.

Even when he tucked Zixi in and his fingertips accidentally brushed against her soft cheek, she didn't wake up.

Finally, he lay on the sleeve of the expensive handmade suit, using his arm as a pillow to stare at Zi Xi. The room was quiet, and his body gradually slid down until he fell asleep, becoming a large guardian dog beside Zi Xi's bed.

When Pei Mozhi woke up, the tingling and numb sensation in the back of his neck and shoulders from being forcibly folded made him gasp, and his chaotic consciousness was instantly cleared by the discomfort.

A few strands of smooth, black hair slung out from the edge of the bedding and meandered across the pillow.

And her breathing, extremely soft and even, long and deep, was right next to me.

Pei Mozhi suddenly jolted awake and became completely sober.

He almost sprang up, the movement so large that it knocked over the top-quality, custom-made suit jacket that had been resting under his arm.

The setting sun shone through the gaps in the heavy blackout curtains, landing precisely where he had just been lying, and illuminating the sleeping face on the bed.

Zi Xi lay on her side facing him, her cheeks flushed with a healthy blush from sleeping soundly, her long eyelashes casting small shadows under her eyes, her lips unconsciously pouting slightly, and there were even a few glistening water droplets at the corners of her mouth.

They slept so soundly and peacefully that they wouldn't wake up even if the sky were to fall.

Pei Mozhi stood frozen in place, maintaining that disheveled posture of being half-up and half-down.

He lay there like an idiot, sprawled on the hard edge of the bed, and fell asleep!

A surge of heat shot straight up from the base of my neck to the top of my head.

Pei Mozhi had lived for twenty-eight years, and this was the first time he had experienced what it meant to die a social death that no one could see, a death he had brought upon himself.

He subconsciously raised his hand to rub his burning ears, but his fingertips touched his chin first, which was actually a little prickly.

Is he really that disheveled?!

Did he drink fake alcohol last night, or was he possessed?!

The surveillance footage from last night must be permanently and physically deleted!

This thought, carrying a murderous intent capable of destroying everything, was the first thing that rushed into my mind.

Just as he stood there, frozen like a weathered rock, the person on the bed seemed to be disturbed by the slight movement.

Zi Xi's thick, long eyelashes trembled very slightly, like the wings of a startled butterfly.

His brows furrowed slightly, as if something bothering him had disturbed his peaceful sleep.

Pei Mozhi's heart leaped into his throat, and the blood in his body seemed to freeze.

He could even clearly hear a tense swallowing sound coming from his own throat.

Only one thought remained in my mind.

She's waking up!

When I wake up, I see him looking so disheveled!

The scene was too beautiful for him to imagine.
