Chapter 42 Reborn as a Dragon in the Zombie World (Thirteen)

At that moment, no one noticed Milk Tea's cute antics. Long Xun quietly asked, "What do you want to do?"

"Antibodies against the J virus have been successfully developed, so there's no need to worry about anyone turning into new zombies. Mr. Po can command other zombies, so I suggest that Mr. Po gather the zombies together. We will then drop nuclear bombs on the zombie gathering points, and the human crisis can be ended." Sheila stated her plan in a flat voice.

Yin Chen held the milk tea in his palm, frowned and thought for a moment, then suddenly said, "But what about Po? After you drop the nuclear bomb, won't Po die along with you?"

“Mr. Po’s chances of escaping are less than one in a thousand,” Sheila replied calmly.

The meeting room was quiet. Po's excitement cooled down for a moment. He sat there blankly, looking at Sheila, and suddenly realized that he had never understood this woman.

How could she not feel any shame? She spoke of sending herself to her death as calmly as if she were talking about what she had eaten that day.

However, it cannot be denied that her plan was indeed very good. Po could even guarantee that if he really did as she said, most of the zombies would indeed be eliminated, and the remaining ones would no longer pose any threat to humanity.

But why am I the one who has to die? Just because I'm some damn zombie king? But did anyone ask him if he wanted to be this damn king? Just because of this identity, does he have to be forced to do something?

Does one really have to be forced to die?

Either you're on an experimental platform, or you're going to die together with zombies?

Isn't that a bit too ridiculous?

If Long Xun hadn't been there, Po felt he might have even laughed.

Yin Chen also fell silent. He could think of the same things Po Neng could think of. The antibody was successfully developed, and all that was left was to eliminate the zombies... Once the zombies were all dead, this apocalyptic disaster would be over.

As long as one soul is sacrificed.

There may still be large tracts of land, but even if the land under the apocalypse has been bombed by nuclear bombs, it doesn't really matter. Anyway, it will take a long time to recover. Once the zombies are eliminated, there's no rush to deal with this kind of problem.

The goal that everyone has been striving for is within reach. If it was understandable to save Jiang Po by putting him on the experimental table because even if he was dissected, there was no guarantee that anything would be successfully researched, then what about now?

...That answer, no matter how painful, is one that anyone could probably make.

Is humanity's future, its very future, to be pushed aside for the sake of one person's life?

The suffocating atmosphere made everyone's thoughts seem to freeze.

After an unknown amount of time, Long Xun's voice rang out, breaking the tense silence of the room: "I won't agree."

Po suddenly raised his head. Yin Chen looked at Long Xun in surprise. Milk Tea also struggled to peek out from between his fingers, staring at her owner with wide, black eyes.

A sharp glint flashed in Sheila's azure eyes, her program momentarily short-circuiting. After a long pause, she said hesitantly, "Dr. Long, why won't you agree?"

"There were 2.5 billion humans on this land. Now, 1.9 billion have become zombies, and 100 million are still human. There are both zombies and humans. Moreover, there are countless other animal mutated into zombies in this world." As for the 500 million people, they were lost in the past six months, and most of them were zombies.

Long Xun calmly replied, "Undeniably, your plan is excellent, but those 1.9 billion zombies were once human, and many more were once other life forms. If they still exist, we can always find a way to restore them. We developed the J virus antibody in just six months, so a drug that can restore zombies might not be too far off. But if we really wipe them out, then these life forms will never have the chance to recover."

Sheila nodded calmly. "No wonder Dr. Long, your team's missions are mostly search and rescue, not zombie killing." She paused, then added, "Dr. Long, if Mr. Po proceeds with his plan, the success rate is as high as ninety percent, while the development of the zombie recovery agent has a high chance of encountering other unforeseen events. Even so, do you still insist on this idea?"

The success of developing a drug is a matter of coincidence. It was already lucky that the J virus antibody was successfully developed. As for the zombie recovery agent... who knows how long it will take to succeed?

Po stared at Long Xun in shock. He hadn't expected... he hadn't expected that even now, the captain still hadn't given up on him.

His vision blurred, a mist welled up in his eyes, and finally condensed into tears that slid down his cheeks. He sobbed uncontrollably, "Stop talking, stop talking... I promise! I promise! I promise!"

That's enough!

Stop talking, he's willing to go!

He felt no resentment, no injustice, no anger; he was content!

He wasn't abandoned; he chose to die. So... don't fight for him anymore.

Brother Long, you truly deserve to be called a hero. Don't continue talking about this zombie...

Long Xun glanced at him sideways and said quietly, "Don't go."

Po slumped over the table, trying to hide his tear-streaked face from everyone. Yin Chen walked around Long Xun's chair, gently patted his back, and whispered, "You fool, don't take yourself too seriously... Xun really doesn't want to kill too many zombies, it's none of your business."

Po remained silent, struggling to hold back his sobs.

He understood that between two races, an individual's life was insignificant, but he was still not abandoned.

How can we not be grateful just because we were just an innocent bystander?
