Chapter 1866 Rekindling the Past (39)

Mo Tang looked at Linghu Lan with a solemn expression and said seriously, "We've known each other for so many years, don't you understand me? I know exactly what kind of person you are. This matter is my family affair, and I accidentally dragged you into it. Don't take it to heart, I will handle it properly later."

Linghu Lan smiled, neither confirming nor denying, but not wanting to dwell on the matter, and said casually, "Let's go! Let's go home! It'll be a good opportunity for my mother to see you."

When the two returned home, it was already quite late. Lan's mother opened the door and, upon seeing Linghu Lan, immediately began her habitual nagging.

"Are you alright? Why are you so late coming back? Look at you, all drunk. Did you come back alone? Didn't any boys bring you home? What's wrong with the boys in your class? Not a single one of them is there to protect you. Oh well, thank goodness you're alright. Come in quickly. Mom made you some soup. Drinking alcohol hurts your stomach. Have some soup before you go to sleep."

Lan's mother kept nagging, but when Linghu Lan walked in, she realized that there was someone following behind her. The words she was about to say were swallowed back in an instant. She looked at Mo Tang in surprise, and her motherly smile immediately turned into a loving aunt's smile. Her whole demeanor changed instantly, becoming kind, approachable, and even a bit elegant.

She nudged Linghu Lan, who was changing her shoes inside, and asked, "Who is this?"

Looking at her mother's smile that was practically overflowing from the screen, Linghu Lan calmly said, "Boyfriend, haven't you always wanted to see him? He's here."

Mo Tang greeted her politely, "Hello, Auntie. My name is Mo Tang!"

Lan's mother was overjoyed. At first, she didn't have high expectations for Linghu Lan's boyfriend, but now that she saw him in person, she immediately became very excited. This boyfriend was just too handsome.

She immediately gave Mo Tang a perfect score of 120 in her mind, not afraid that Mo Tang would become arrogant at all. She quickly ushered Mo Tang in, saying, "Come in, come in! Don't stand outside. Don't be shy when you come to Auntie's house, come in quickly!"

Mo Tang walked in with a calm and composed gait, and consciously placed the large and small bags she was carrying on the table by the entrance.

He brought many gifts this time. He had gone to look for Linghu Lan before, so he had his men carry the gifts and wait at Linghu Lan's door until he arrived at her house.

Linghu Lan gave him a pair of shoes to change into. Looking at the gifts, Lan's mother instinctively felt that they were quite valuable. Although she herself did not usually buy luxury goods, she could roughly tell the quality of the packaging. She understood Mo Tang's sincerity to some extent, and quickly went into the kitchen to bring soup to the two of them.

Lan's mother looked at Mo Tang with a kind expression and said, "Have you eaten yet? Auntie will cook for you. Have some soup to tide you over first."

Mo Tang replied politely, "I've already eaten, so please don't trouble yourself, Auntie."

"This child is so polite. When you come to Auntie's house, please don't be shy. If you haven't eaten, Auntie will make you something right now. It's no trouble at all."

Linghu Lan focused on her soup; the food she'd eaten at the gathering had made her feel a bit weak, and now she was actually quite hungry. "Mom, I'm hungry. Can you make me something? He's already eaten; he doesn't need to eat anymore."

Lan's mother tapped Linghu Lan's head and said, "You've been eating and drinking at home all this time and you're almost turning into a pig. You need to control your figure. Why are you eating so late? Besides, I was asking Mo Tang, not you. Drink your soup properly and go to sleep after you finish."

Linghu Lan gave her mother a resentful look. Is this really her mother?

Mo Tang couldn't help but laugh and quickly said, "Auntie, you really don't need to trouble yourself. I've already eaten. I'm not just being polite."

He noticed that Linghu Lan had some qualities that were very similar to her mother's.

Lan's mother was finally relieved. She looked at Mo Tang with an appreciative smile, a smile that blatantly declared that she would be more than happy if Mo Tang, this pig, came to steal her cabbage.

After finishing a bowl of soup, Linghu Lan took Mo Tang's soup and drank it herself. A child without a mother's love can only rely on herself.

Lan's mother patted Linghu Lan's hand, clearly annoyed that she had embarrassed her. "There's still soup in the pot. If you want some, just scoop it yourself. How could you ask a guest for soup? What kind of manners did I teach you?"

“He is not a guest.” Linghu Lan remained unmoved.

"How can you not be a guest?"

"He'll soon be one of us, so there's no need to be polite with him."

Mo Tang nodded and smiled, "Auntie, you really don't need to be so polite. We're getting married soon. I came here today to let you and Uncle see me. My parents will come over in a few days to discuss the details with you."

Lan's mother's heart skipped a beat. Could this be a marriage proposal? Just a few days ago, she was worried that her daughter wouldn't be able to get married, but she didn't expect someone to come to propose today. Her feelings were suddenly very complicated.

She was momentarily speechless. "Wow, so fast!"

"Mom, just a few days ago you were worried that I wouldn't be able to get married, but today you're worried that I'm getting married too quickly?"

Lan's mother wanted to strangle Linghu Lan, that little black-hearted cotton, with a single finger. Those were just private words; could she really say them to her face? But this was a typical case of forgetting one's mother once a man is in charge.

Watching the close interaction between the mother and daughter, Mo Tang smiled and said, "Auntie, don't worry. Even if Lanlan and I get married, we will still come to see you often. Our work hours are relatively flexible, and we both work in the city, so we won't be too far from you. You can come to visit her anytime you want."

Lan's mother felt a little relieved; after all, they were both in the same city, so distance wasn't a problem.

Linghu Lan asked, "Where is my father?"

She looked around and noticed that she hadn't seen her father today, which seemed odd.

“Your father went on a business trip today. Let’s tell him about things here tomorrow.” After dealing with her daughter, Lan’s mother turned to Mo Tang and said, “Auntie doesn’t know your family’s situation yet. If you’re not sleepy, let’s chat!”

Mo Tang nodded seriously, knowing that things were about to get back on track. "Okay, Auntie, what questions do you have? I'll answer them to the best of my ability."

The mother glanced at Linghu Lan, who was pretending to drink soup but actually listening intently, and shooed her into the bedroom without hesitation. "Are you finished drinking? If you are, hurry up and come in. I have something to talk to Mo Tang about, and it's not convenient for you to listen!"

"I'm the person involved, why can't I listen?"

Linghu Lan looked up, her face covered in a piece of green vegetable.

Mo Tang found it extremely funny, reached out and wiped the vegetable leaves off her face, and handed her a tissue.

Lan's mother was a little angry: "I'm still your own mother. If I say no, then no. You go inside and rest right now."

Linghu Lan pouted, not wanting to go against her own mother any longer, so she reluctantly went into the bathroom to wash up. After cleaning herself up, she lay down in bed and felt extremely comfortable.

She thought she would have trouble sleeping because of her overthinking, but she didn't. In less than a minute, she closed her eyes and began to breathe evenly.

He woke up late the next day. The sunlight shone on the bed, and he stretched comfortably before getting out of bed. He opened the door and habitually looked into the kitchen, but instead of his mother, he saw the tall and imposing Mo Tang.

Mo Tang was arranging ingredients in the kitchen, chopping vegetables on the cutting board with a clattering sound. His chopping posture was very graceful. A man cooking is very heartwarming, making people instantly feel that the woman in the house must be very pampered.

Linghu Lan stood there, staring intently, imagining her life after marrying Mo Tang.

Mo Tang seemed to sense her presence, but instead of turning around, she focused even more intently on cooking.

Lan's mother came out of the master bedroom, saw that her daughter still looked like she hadn't woken up yet, and said in an annoyed tone, "Look at you, why don't you hurry up and tidy up properly?"

Linghu Lan inwardly groaned. She realized that since Mo Tang's arrival, her status at home had plummeted, and she seemed to have instantly fallen out of favor. However, Mo Tang had only been there for one night.

"I see!"

Lan's mother looked at Linghu Lan with amusement. She wasn't quite sure how her daughter and Mo Tang got along, but any mother would want her daughter to appear radiant in front of her boyfriend.

When Linghu Lan finished getting ready and came out, breakfast was already laid out on the table. Bread, milk, millet porridge, stir-fried vegetables, and potstickers looked incredibly delicious, making one's mouth water.

Mo Tang looked at her with a smile: "If you want to eat, then hurry up and eat. You don't feel well after drinking alcohol, so drink some millet porridge to soothe your stomach."

Linghu Lan focused on the porridge in front of her, saying, "I didn't expect you could cook."

"I cook for myself occasionally. When I'm tired of eating out, it feels more like home when I cook for myself," Mo Tang said casually.

He ate slowly and gracefully, clearly showing his good upbringing.

Lan Ma looked at Mo Tang with a smile. In Linghu Lan's eyes, this smile was like a mother-in-law looking at her son-in-law, and the more she looked, the more she liked him.

Linghu Lan reluctantly put some food into her mother's bowl. "Mom, stop staring at the screen and eat something too. How long did you two talk last night?!"

"About an hour!"

Linghu Lan was secretly astonished. She knew her own mother well; if they could talk for an hour, her mother would probably have found out everything about Mo Tang.

In fact, she herself hadn't really asked Mo Tang about his family background.

After finishing their meal, Lan's mother sent Linghu Lan and Mo Tang out. "Go out and have a stroll. Don't come back for lunch if you eat out. Since I'm not home, there's no one to cook for you. Lan Lan, you must take good care of Mo Tang. Go to a park or scenic spot or something."

"He's a local, what do he need to do? He knows the whole place!"

Linghu Lan complained a few times, and her mother picked up her rolling pin. Linghu Lan immediately surrendered, obediently changed her clothes, and went out with Mo Tang.

Outside.

The biting wind felt icy cold on my face.

Linghu Lan tightened her coat; it was too cold, but the date was important too.

Once she left the residential area and was out of her mother's sight, Linghu Lan finally felt relaxed. She smiled at Mo Tang and asked, "Are you adjusting well?"

"That's great. Your mother is very warm and welcoming. You look a lot like your mother."

Linghu Lan lowered her head. Many people had said the same thing before, but she had never thought it until she returned this time and realized that she really resembled her biological mother. "I'm more like my mother. Who are you more like?"

“I look more like my father; we have similar personalities and appearances.” Mo Tang lowered her head and pondered for a moment.

"Have you contacted your parents after you woke up? What did they say?"

"I've contacted them, and you'll be able to see them in a while."

When his parents were mentioned, there was always a hint of worry in Mo Tang's eyes. He hadn't gone home yet, he had only called to let them know he was safe, but he could sense that his parents' health was not very good.

"Why don't you go back and see your parents first? There's no need to rush over here. I'm here, I won't run away." Linghu Lan felt very sweet inside.

“They are abroad. If they were in China, they would probably come to your house with me in a day.”

Mo Tang smiled gently. He knew his parents well; this double happiness was the best news for them.

"Did your mom ask you a lot of questions yesterday? Were they easy to answer? What did she ask you?"

Mo Tang shuddered as she recalled the barrage of questions Lan's mother had asked the previous night. "She asked a lot of questions: the house, the car, my income, my job, my career, and my parents' situation. She basically asked about everything I could think of!"

Mo Tang said this, but her tone was very relaxed.

"You've asked so many questions, do you mind?" Linghu Lan asked, extremely curious.

“I don’t mind at all. This is something that needs to be asked clearly. If I were to marry off my daughter in the future, I might ask even more detailed questions than your mother, which shows that you are very favored at home. However, I do have some regrets. I didn’t answer some questions very well. If I could do it again, I would answer them in a way that would satisfy your mother more.”

Mo Tang touched his chin, lost in thought.

In fact, he didn't sleep well last night, repeatedly thinking about his conversation with Lan's mother, wondering if his response would have been more effective.

"Hahaha!" Linghu Lan couldn't help but laugh out loud. "Want to answer again? My dad can satisfy you. You weren't so lucky. Yesterday it was just my mom who was here. When my dad is here, you can have another go."

Mo Tang's face darkened instantly.

That's just wishful thinking.

Doing it again, it really could kill someone.

Seeing that Mo Tang was just like any other person when it came to marriage, Linghu Lan was instantly thrilled and extremely happy.

The two of them strolled around, ate, watched a movie, and leisurely found a cafe with huge floor-to-ceiling windows on all four sides. They lay down and sunbathed, like two salted fish lying on the shore sunbathing.

When Lan's father returned, Mo Tang performed exceptionally well, making Lan's mother and father extremely satisfied with him as their son-in-law. They couldn't wait to take him out and announce to the world, "This is my son-in-law."

Time flew by, and Mo Tang's parents were finally coming to visit Lan's parents.
