Chapter 23 Monsters Appear in Service Area

With just one glance, one feels suffocated as if their neck is being tightly strangled. Although it still looks like a human, its bloodshot eyes and drooling, blood-stained mouth clearly indicate that it is no longer a person.

Jiang Shuyin gritted her teeth and stared intently at the monster. His hands were almost covered in blood, and as he moved, the congealed blood flakes fell off.

The little one was fighting a monster. This was the first time I'd seen the little one's body stretch to the size of its head, attaching itself to the monster's skull, blood flowing down from beneath its skin, one streak, two streaks...

"Let's do it."

Jiang Shuyin didn't dare to look back; she recognized Xie Yin's voice.

Having just finished dealing with a few pieces of trash, Xie Yin used wet wipes he'd borrowed from the supermarket to clean his fingers one by one. This Class B mission was to investigate the pathogenic factors of these diseased individuals and, if possible, send 10 live animals to the Hangzhou Biological Research Institute.

Those few were a bit temperamental, but this one is much better.

After admiring the little one's efforts in fighting, Xie Yin smiled slightly, his hand in his pocket playing with the red egg. Noticing that she hadn't made a move, he cast a questioning look at her: "Can't you fight?"

Jiang Shuyin nodded stiffly, her mind tense.

Xie Yin suddenly realized, looked around, found an iron rod, grabbed her hand and stuffed the thing inside.

"See his head? Destroying the highest level of control is enough to settle things. This is just a practice run for you. Our mission is to capture ten alive." Xie Yin practically taught her step by step.

The two were standing very close. Normally, Jiang Shuyin would have overthought things, but now... sorry, her attention was completely drawn to the monster in front of her.

The brain keeps mentally preparing itself, knowing that it has to get through this eventually. Like in the movies, treat the monster like a cabbage, swing your hand with all your might, make sure you aim for a fatal blow.

"Won't it hurt the baby?" She vowed to ask this last question before going on the mission.

Xie Yin looked at the monster with a sneer: "Cold weapons can't hurt us."

Jiang Shuyin steeled herself; if she didn't push herself, she wouldn't know how red the flower truly was!

"Bang--"

The monster's head was more fragile than she had imagined. With a powerful swing, blood exploded on its head. The monster was clearly not yet incapacitated. It reached out its bloody hand to its suddenly approaching prey. Jiang Shuyin was truly terrified, as if she had seen a centipede suddenly appear on the ground. Her whole body went numb. She screamed and attacked everything around her indiscriminately in a state of rage, her feet stomping on the ground.

Xie Yin pursed his lips, his eyes somewhat unfocused.

She had smashed the monster into a pulp, and the little one was floating in the air, still smelling of zombie flesh and blood.

"That's enough." Xie Yin said, but Jiang Shuyin was still in a state of mental confusion, so he could only go over and grab her wildly waving hand: "It's resolved, go get something to eat."

"Huff huff huff." Jiang Shu slid down weakly, and after relaxing, her arms felt tired from overexertion. Her mind was blank, and Xie Yin pulled her into the supermarket to sit down.

The baby turned back into a soft ball and gently rubbed against the back of her hand.

Jiang Shuyin looked at it, raised her hand and gently rubbed the cub with her fingertips, which greatly relieved her tension.

The beginning is always the hardest, but she has already taken the first step.

On the other side, Xie Yin walked into the supermarket. The sick person he had just helped was still lying on the floor, and the rusty smell on the floor had not yet been cleaned up. The cashier opened a corner of the warehouse to observe and heard someone say, "The internet says that desserts can stimulate the taste buds to send signals to the brain, causing a substance called dopamine to be produced, making you feel happy. Candy, cake... take them all."

The cashier was certain it was a person. He quickly opened the warehouse door to take a look. The man who spoke was tall and had delicate features, which greatly calmed his agitated heart.

"Shall I settle your bill?" the cashier mustered her courage and approached.

Xie Yin took a few more bottles of water: "Hmm, how much is this?"

The cashier looked over and saw a shopping cart full of items. In the past, it would have cost three or four hundred yuan, but now it would be even more expensive. Moreover, in a supermarket in a service area like theirs, the value would naturally be double or even double: "3467 yuan. Do you need a bag to pack it up?"

"Hmm." Xie Yin picked out the sugar and cake: "Put the rest away."

While packing the food, the cashier asked, "Excuse me, are there any other monsters like this outside? Isn't anyone going to do anything about them?"

He called the police countless times, but the line was always busy. He suspected that the other party was also incapable of handling the situation and had tampered with the phone.

"There are too many to manage." Xie Yin casually fiddled with his phone a few times, and the videos he found on different platforms were different.

In Anshi, an inland city, the videos I saw were mostly about scenery and apocalyptic themes. But here, the videos are mostly negative, about monsters, seclusion, and conflicts.

Hangzhou took in three million immigrants from the coastal city of Jinsan, which had been swallowed by the sea. Problems such as housing, encroachment on territory, security, unemployment and re-employment followed one after another. The monster had been discovered by the local people, and it could no longer be hidden. However, the higher-ups used special network methods to block the spread of the news.

The surplus forces in temporarily safe inland cities were assigned to come to cities like Hangzhou.

Jiang Shuyin waited for a while, and when she saw that Xie Yin had bought so many things, she asked, "Are we going to stay in the car the whole time?"

Xie Yin handed her the things in his other hand: "That's about it. I'll put the things in the car first. The monsters here have been cleared out. After you've eaten your fill, we'll go look for more."

Jiang Shu watched him leave, then turned back to look at the cake. It looked good, but she had no appetite. She peeled off a piece of candy and put it in her mouth, savoring the sweet taste on her tongue before slowly leaning back.
