Chapter 13 Doctor Huang's Memories Part 2 (2/2)

Mr. Huang, Huang Zhenhua's father, raised an eyebrow, revealing a meaningful look. This kid is just like a peacock displaying its plumage! Back when he went to see Madam Huang, he was exactly like that, meticulously dressed, frantically worried about whether he was dressed properly or not. If he remembered correctly, today should be the birthday of Qingxiao, the girl from the Gu family; she should be eighteen this year.

It's neither a holiday nor a festival, yet you're dressed up like a peacock spreading its tail feathers. Are you planning to be a groom? Madam Huang wouldn't miss the chance to tease her eldest son. Who told him to act like a little adult since he was a child, so dull and boring, not fun at all.

Madam Huang didn't connect her son's unusual behavior today to Gu Qingxiao. She always thought her son treated Qingxiao like a younger sister. Her son was already twenty-two, and she had been anxious about his marriage. She hadn't seen him get close to any girls, and when she tried to introduce him to any, he always declined, saying he didn't want to get married yet. Qingxiao was the daughter-in-law she had her eye on, but her eldest son hadn't shown any interest. She even wanted to match Qingxiao with Zhenguo. If Huang Zhenhua knew that his mother wanted to match his younger brother with Qingxiao, he'd probably be furious.

"Nothing, Mother just asked what I think of my outfit." Seeing he was serious, Madam Huang stopped teasing him and looked at his clothes carefully. "Hmm, quite good-looking, quite dashing, even more handsome today. You can ask your father if you don't believe me." Mr. Huang nodded in agreement.

With his parents' approval, Huang Zhenhua became more confident. He ate breakfast half as fast as usual, and after finishing, he went upstairs to grab a bag and hurriedly left.

Mrs. Huang, sitting at the dinner table, was somewhat puzzled. She called out to Mr. Huang, "Shaoqi, don't you think Zhenhua is acting a bit strange today? His behavior is so different from usual." Mr. Huang nodded without saying anything. It seemed his son was going to take action today, and if he didn't say anything, then he, as his father, couldn't say anything either.

Madam Huang didn't mind her husband's silence; that was just his nature. She continued her rambling, "Why is he dressed so neatly and cleanly, and even has hair oil on? What's he up to? Does he have a girlfriend? But besides Qingxiao, I haven't seen any other women with him. Sigh, this son is such a worry. You're a father now, and he's still a bachelor."

By the way, Qingxiao hasn't come home lately; I wonder what she's been up to. Hey, Shaoqi, what do you think about me trying to set Qingxiao up with Zhenguo? *Cough cough cough* Mr. Huang almost choked on his steamed bun. His wife really dared to dream; if she dared to set Qingxiao up with his second son, the eldest son would probably go crazy. Eldest son, I hope you succeed today. Otherwise, your mother will introduce your favorite future wife to your second brother.

Meanwhile, Huang Zhenhua went to the Gu family home, picked up Gu Qingxiao, and rode his bicycle out of the city. They came to a field of rapeseed flowers, and the two walked and admired the flowers. Several times, Huang Zhenhua wanted to speak his mind, but he swallowed the words back.

"Brother Zhenhua, what's wrong with you today?" He seemed distracted. Gu Qingxiao was a little worried about him; had something happened? Meeting Gu Qingxiao's concerned and worried gaze, he suddenly felt a little weak. His Qingxiao sister had always been so attentive and caring towards him.

He mustered his courage and took her hand. Gu Qingxiao was a little surprised, but she didn't push his hand away. "Qingxiao, you're eighteen today. I don't want to wait any longer. Qingxiao, I like you and want to be with you, with marriage in mind. I want to cherish you, love you, and protect you. Do you like me? Can you agree to be with me?" Huang Zhenhua said these words nervously, waiting for Gu Qingxiao's answer.

Gu Qingxiao looked at the boy, four years her senior. From childhood, she had always followed him around, he had taken care of her, saved the best food for her, bought her all sorts of little trinkets, worried about her when she was sick, and even taught her about medicine. She had long since decided he was the one, but he had never made a move. She thought he only treated her like a younger sister, so she had always held back, afraid of scaring him away.
