Chapter 145 Su's Father and Mother Refusal to Go to Beijing (2/2)

She subconsciously ignored the fact that she was just a student. Even if she had the money to buy a house in Beijing, no one would believe she bought it herself. After all, she had a wealthy and powerful mentor; people would only assume she was relying on someone powerful for support.

Thinking about this, Su Xingran understood a lot. She understood her parents' worries and concerns. She thought it was a good idea; she would go to school in Beijing first, and then bring her parents to live with her once she was settled.

Su Xingran said to her parents, "Okay, Mom and Dad, I understand. I understand your good intentions. I will study hard and try my best to bring you to the capital as soon as possible."

The day of parting always comes quickly, and today is Su Xingran's graduation banquet. Early in the morning, Su's parents went to town to buy supplies, and many women in the village who were close to Su's mother came to help.

Mr. and Mrs. Su were in particularly good spirits today, their faces beaming with smiles. Besides the villagers, those who came to eat included Mrs. Su's maternal relatives, the principals and teachers from Su Xingran's primary, middle, and high schools, the Huang Tai'an family, colleagues from the police station, the Xiao Dingyu family, the Deng Jianjun family, and the Zhang Hengyuan family.

There was plenty of meat and wine, which Su Xingran had taken out from her spatial storage. The ten dishes symbolized perfection. "Sweet and sour pork, chicken stew with mushrooms, pork stew with vermicelli, stir-fried pork slices, braised pork belly, sweet and sour fish, Mapo tofu, stir-fried potatoes, eggplant, and green peppers, dumplings, and stir-fried cabbage with vinegar."

Su's father specially bought a large string of firecrackers and lit them before the banquet to congratulate Su Xingran on being admitted to a university in Beijing. Su's father had instructed the villagers beforehand not to bring gifts, but to come and eat directly.

Su Xingran's parents refused all the gifts given by Huang Tai'an and his family, turning them away. They only wanted to celebrate and have some fun with their daughter. However, no matter how much they refused, Su Xingran insisted on accepting the red envelopes that Huang Tai'an and his family gave her.

A shout of "Let's begin!" ignited the villagers' enthusiasm. Dishes were laid out on the table, all served on large platters, with generous portions. Normally, most families don't get to eat meat, but now six out of ten dishes are meat, and even the dumplings are filled with meat.

Everyone ate heartily, their mouths greasy. This graduation banquet was the first of its kind in Sujia Village; even wedding banquets couldn't compare to it.

No one suspected anything, after all, Su Xingran received a thousand yuan in bonuses the day the admission notices arrived, and the brigade and commune had sponsored the graduation banquet. Besides, Su Xingran also had Doctor Huang behind her.

Because of Su Xingran, most families in the village started sending their daughters to school. They all thought that maybe their family could produce a "Su Xingran".

At this graduation banquet, Su Xingran thanked all the teachers and principals who had educated her. She thanked the village chief and brigade leader of Sujia Village, and the villagers who had helped her family. She thanked her parents who raised her, and the master who took her as his apprentice and taught her medicine. She thanked everyone who had helped her, cared for her, and looked after her…

Xiao Xue also got accepted into Beijing University, choosing the same university as Su Xingran. Xiao Xue and Su Xingran were supposed to travel to Beijing together, departing in three days, but the date was changed.

The date has been changed to tomorrow, as Gu Moting and Xiao Xue's wedding is three days after their departure. Doctor Huang, Gu Moting's uncle, needs to return for the wedding.

Back in Beijing, Dr. Huang planned to take Su Xingran to visit her old friends and the professor from the Traditional Chinese Medicine department at her university. Besides Huang Taizhou, Su Xingran hadn't met anyone else in her family. Dr. Huang would need to introduce her to all of them.

After the excitement subsided, a sense of melancholy welled up in her heart as they prepared to part. After chatting with her parents, Su Xingran retreated to her room and wept silently. In another room, Su's mother sat on the edge of the bed, also crying. Su's father's eyes were red, tears welling up.
