Duan Yuming watched all this, his eyebrows twitching. He remembered that on Xingran's birthday, a gift had been given, supposedly to be delivered on Mo Li's behalf. This kid's got his eye on Xingran? Isn't he afraid his uncle will break his legs?
Uncle Huang just said yesterday that Xingran has grown up and he's worried that some boys outside might try to steal her away. So, it seems he has to guard against not only outsiders but also those within the family. I wonder if Uncle Huang will faint if he finds out.
Liang Yun chuckled dryly a few times, "Huilan, you've come from afar, and we, as your hosts, haven't been able to properly entertain you. I really like Xingran; she even saved our Xiaoxue. Besides, Xingran calls the Gu family's children 'big brother' and 'big sister'!"
"When Lao Gu's brother-in-law Zhenhua was in Northeast China, he was greatly taken care of by you and your wife. It's only right that we prepare some local specialties for you to take home. Lao Gu and I won't stop you from going to the train station. We have some things to do later and will head back first. Please be careful on the train and have a safe journey."
Liang Yun subtly gave Gu Junru a wink, and Gu Junru, who had worked with her for many years, immediately understood. "Um... we have some things to attend to, so we'll be going now. I wish you and your husband a safe journey." The two left their things and disappeared in a flash.
Su Guomin and Zeng Huilan exchanged glances, then simultaneously turned to look at Su Xingran. "Ranran, are Mo Ting's parents being so enthusiastic? What should we do with all this stuff? How should we handle it?"
Su Xingran knew Liang Yun was a warm-hearted person, but to go to such lengths to buy local specialties and deliver them so early in the morning was a bit too much. Looking at the several large bags of things, Su Xingran felt a headache coming on; she couldn't very well just return them to the Gu family.
Duan Yuming glanced at the bags and said, "Guomin, you and your wife should take them. It wouldn't look good to return them after they've already been delivered. Besides, these are all local specialties from Beijing. People in Beijing are tired of eating them all the time. You can take them back as gifts."
Finally, Duan Yuming took the bags of things that the Gu family had brought and put them in his car to take them to the train station, where he went back to Northeast China with the Su family.
The Su family of three sat in the car. Su's mother, Zeng Huilan, held Su Xingran's hand, while Su's father, Su Guomin, held Su's mother's hand. The three of them held hands tightly together and did not let go.
The atmosphere in the car was quiet; no one spoke. Everyone was afraid that if they opened their mouths, their sadness would spill out, and they were also afraid that they would choke up.
The journey from the Huang family home to the train station was truly heartbreaking for Su Xingran. She realized that as people grow up, they constantly experience separation and feel the pain of parting time and time again.
Upon arriving at the train station, Duan Yuming found a parking spot, and the two men carried the larger bags. Su Xingran and her mother, Zeng Huilan, carried the lighter items. They had brought some Northeastern specialties on their way there, and on their way back, they brought several large bags of Beijing specialties, much more than they had brought on their trip.
Su Guomin and Zeng Huilan arrived in hard seats, but Duan Yuming bought them sleeper berths so they could lie down and rest on the train.
Su Xingran's mother, Zeng Huilan, hugged her with tears in her eyes. "Ranran, your father and mother are going home. Remember your promise to take good care of yourself."
Su's father, Su Guomin, also came up and patted Su Xingran's head. "Ranran, your father and mother are going home. You need to take good care of yourself and protect yourself here."
Su Xingran buried her head in her mother Zeng Huilan's arms. Hearing her parents' words, she desperately gritted her teeth and held back her tears. She was so reluctant to leave her parents and only wanted to be with them.
Not hearing a response from Su Xingran, Su Guomin and his wife didn't continue speaking. They understood their daughter's feelings; neither of them could bear being separated from her, and how could their daughter, who had only just come of age, endure the pain of separation?
Duan Yuming stood silently to the side until he glanced at his watch before speaking. "Guomin, your train is about to depart. You should get ready to go in, or you'll miss your train."
