As Dr. Qin watched Gu Moli walk out dejectedly, his lips twitched. He had originally thought that Gu Moli and Su Xingran were a couple, or at least were planning to become one.
Seeing Su Xingran, Doctor Qin finally understood that he had been overthinking things. The woman had no such intentions whatsoever and still regarded Gu Moli as an older brother. And Gu Moli himself was probably clueless, unaware of his own true feelings.
Well, Dr. Qin thought it best to let the young people figure things out for themselves. Back when he fell for his wife, wasn't he just like Gu Moli, unable to discern his own feelings? If his wife hadn't also fallen for him, she probably would have vanished by the time he truly realized it.
Commander Gao and Doctor Qin were on their way to find their superiors when Gu Moli returned to the Gu family home with his luggage. Liang Yun was quite surprised to see Gu Moli suddenly appear. She had prepared herself not to see Gu Moli for several years, but who knew she would see him again after only a few months.
"Mo Li, why did you suddenly come back? You didn't even let your family know. Also, you've lost so much weight since your older brother and sister-in-law got married. Were you injured, so the army sent you back to rest?" Liang Yun asked Gu Mo Li with some doubt.
Gu Moli knew he had lost a lot of weight recently, no wonder Xingran and his mother could tell at a glance. "Mother, I'm fine, I just had a minor injury, and I'm almost fully recovered now. It's just that my boss gave me some time off to come home and recuperate, and I was thinking of going home to rest for a while, but I don't know when I'll be able to go home again."
Upon hearing Gu Moli admit to being injured, Liang Yun's eyes immediately reddened. Two of her three children were in the military, and she shared the same worry every day: fear of receiving news from the army that her children were injured or had been killed.
As a mother, she couldn't interfere with her children's choices; she could only silently pray for their safety. But the pain of a child's injury was the pain in a mother's heart, and Liang Yun felt deeply distressed whenever she heard that her child was hurt.
When Gu Moli saw his mother's eyes redden, his heart trembled. He knew that if he didn't appease his mother, his father, Gu Junru, would cause him trouble later.
"Mom, I'm really fine, don't worry. Look at me, I'm perfectly fine, I can walk and jump. This little injury is nothing for a real man."
Gu Moli thought about what Su Xingran had said, "Mother, I'm going to my uncle's house later. Do you and Father want to come along?"
Liang Yun then remembered that Lao Gu wasn't home. "Your father isn't home. He went to the factory and I don't know when he'll be back. Go by yourself later. Xingran went to school and isn't home. Mom went and there's no one to chat with. Mom isn't going."
After having dinner at home, Gu Moli rode his bicycle to the Huang family's house. Su Xingran and Huang Zhenhua had told her at school earlier that day that Gu Moli, along with his military doctor and the commander of the Beijing Military Region, had come to the school to see her.
The three of them came with hemostatic powder and quick-acting life-saving pills. Su Xingran told Huang Zhenhua everything Commander Gao had said. She also told Huang Zhenhua about her own requests and that she had asked Gu Moli to go to her house to get the pills.
Huang Zhenhua strongly agreed with Su Xingran's conditions and demands. Military use was for the country, and Su Xingran's unconditional support was a matter of great righteousness. Commercial use was for the country's economic benefit, and Su Xingran's request for a share was reasonable and justifiable. Not publicly revealing his ownership of the formula was to avoid certain "opportunists," and seeking a promise from leadership was for future security.
