Listening to Huang Zhenhua's words, Huang Taihe understood his father's implication. Xingran and the Huang family were bound together by their master-disciple relationship; they would face both disaster and honor together in the future.
Huang Taihe understood that his father's words about not being able to protect Xingran after his passing, and that they should protect her, meant that once his father was gone, the kindness shown to him by his parents would fade away.
Looking at his white-haired father, Huang Taihe felt a pang of sadness. It seemed that his father's hair had started to turn white after his mother fell ill, and after his mother passed away, his father's hair turned completely white all at once.
"Dad, don't worry, I will protect Xingran. Xingran, Taizhou, and I are family, always will be."
Gu Moli looked at Huang Zhenhua very seriously and said, "Uncle, I will protect Xingran and will protect her well."
Huang Taihe glanced at Gu Moli. He felt that Moli was as resolute as when he took his oath of enlistment, as serious as when he went to his wife's house and promised his parents-in-law that he would treat his wife well.
The three chatted for a long time in the main hall, and Huang Taihe left first because he had to return to the military compound. Gu Moli saw that it was getting late, "Uncle, Xingran asked me to go into her room to get some pills."
Huang Zhenhua glanced at the time; it was quite late. "Go ahead! Xingran told me today that her room door wasn't locked. Just go in and find the box she told you about."
Gu Moli walked to the door of the room Huang Zhenhua mentioned. When he was a child, his aunt and uncle lived at home, and he liked to come to the Huang family home and stick with them, so he knew the layout of the Huang family home very well.
Gu Moli pushed open the door and walked in. What came into view was a clean, tidy and orderly furnishing. There was a bed, a bookshelf, a chair, and a cabinet. The top was for placing things and sitting to comb hair, and there was a small door underneath for storing things.
Gu Moli glanced over but quickly looked away. He hadn't entered a woman's room since he was ten years old, not even his older sister's or his parents' rooms. He wasn't sure if it was just his imagination, but Gu Moli felt there was a faint fragrance in the room.
Su Xingran said the pills were stored under a cabinet with a small door. Gu Moli walked to the cabinet, squatted down, opened the small door, and took out a medicine box. Gu Moli opened the medicine box, which contained many kinds of medicine. He found the pills he needed, closed the medicine box, and put it back in the cabinet.
Gu Moli came out of the room and walked to the main hall, telling Huang Zhenhua that he was going home. Gu Moli rode his bicycle down the street, the image of what he had seen when he entered Su Xingran's room flashing through his mind.
The image of Su Xingran returning to her room after her vacation, taking a book from the bookshelf, and sitting on the bed leaning against the headboard to read flashed through his mind. Gu Moli felt that he was somewhat obsessed, why did he keep thinking about Su Xingran involuntarily?
When Gu Moli returned home, Gu Junru and Liang Yun were already resting. Aunt Hu opened the door for him; she had waited for Gu Moli to return before resting herself. Gu Moli thanked Aunt Hu and went to his room.
After washing up, Gu Moli sat on a chair in his room, holding the medicine box he had brought back from Su Xingran's room. Gu Moli stared at the medicine box for a long time, and no one knew what he was thinking or what he was pondering.
