Chapter 20 Father Su vs. Old Man Su (1/2)

Su Xingran's rebuttals made the old man's face darken even more, and his gaze toward Su Xingran became even more unfriendly. He never expected that today, he would make a young girl lose face.

He felt that his dignity as an elder had been attacked, and if he didn't deal with this obstacle today, he would never be able to establish his authority in front of the younger generation.

Second brother, let me tell you, if you don't teach this rebellious son who talks back to his elders a lesson today, don't blame me for being ruthless towards you. My Su family doesn't need unfilial sons, nor does it need disobedient and unruly sons.

Dad, I don't think Ranran is wrong. You should still talk to Mom. She can say anything. It's fine if it's just our family hearing it today, but if the villagers hear it and it gets back to the militia, whatever the consequences, it will be Mom's mouth that's to blame.

Also, Ranran listens to what I and her mother say. She is very filial to her parents, a good child who can distinguish right from wrong, not a troublemaker, and does not disrespect her elders.

Su's father made it clear that he was on his daughter's side. He had genuinely longed for his parents' approval in the past. When he was a child, he was truly envious of how his parents doted on his older brother. But after everything that happened, he knew that he was not liked by his parents.

Living with his grandparents, his grandfather was a cultured, upright, and kind man. His grandfather often taught him to be honest, kind, respect the elderly and care for the young, to prioritize filial piety and to win people over with virtue.

Even though he didn't receive love from his parents, he still upheld filial piety. He just never imagined that his filial piety would cause his wife and daughter to suffer all kinds of injustice, and even lose their lives.

Now he no longer wants to prioritize filial piety. His grandfather was right to prioritize filial piety, but it's not suitable for his parents. Even if he's foolish, he can't bear to see his wife and daughter hurt again. From now on, he can be the kind of unfilial son his parents always talk about.

Old Man Su never expected that his usually obedient second son would dare to disobey him now. His dignity as an elder was once again attacked. He felt dizzy and his body trembled with anger.

Seeing this, Su's father didn't want to cause any trouble and invite criticism. Ranran had just become Doctor Huang's apprentice; he couldn't let these people tarnish her reputation. "Father, Mother, what brings you here today?"

When the eldest son saw his parents, he was so angry and upset that the second son's family was hurt. If this continued, they would miss the day's business. He tugged at the old man's sleeve and whispered in his ear, "Dad, don't forget why we came here today."

Hearing his eldest son's words, Old Man Su remembered the purpose of his visit today. He steadied himself and cleared his throat.

"Second son, we came to see you today. Let's go inside and talk. After all this commotion, some are hurt, some are angry, and we haven't even gotten inside yet. It's a complete waste of time and energy." Old Su thought to himself, "I'll find a chance to teach this unfilial son and troublemaker a lesson later."

Su's parents couldn't very well stop them from entering the house. No matter how much they disliked them, they still had to put on a show. Their family still needed to live in the village and they didn't want people gossiping and pointing fingers behind their backs.

The couple and Su Xingran stepped aside to let them pass. Old Man Su put his hands behind his back, walked into the doorway with a dark face, and Su's eldest son and his wife helped Old Woman Su.

Once inside the house, Old Man Su sat down. He looked at Old Woman Su, whose mouth was still bleeding, and said, "Second son, didn't you see your mother's mouth is still bleeding? Go and get her some medicine powder and paper to treat her."

Su's father couldn't refuse the request. When Dr. Huang treated Su Xingran after she kowtowed, there was still some hemostatic powder left. He looked at Su Xingran and gestured for her to go to her room to get it.

The powder was kept in Su Xingran's room. She went to the room, took the powder, and turned to leave. Suddenly, she remembered something and stopped in her tracks.
