Upon hearing the news, Wei's "distant relatives" immediately ran to wake up Old Master Wei and his wife, Wei Xiongjie. The door to the room was banged on loudly, waking everyone inside.
Grandpa Wei came out of the room. "What's going on? Why were you banging on the door so hard so early in the morning?"
"Old Wei, something bad has happened! The guard came and said Zilin has had an accident. He's in that little house in front of the compound," said Aunt Zhang, a distant relative, somewhat anxiously.
Upon hearing that his grandson was in trouble, Grandpa Wei hurried outside. "Wake up Xiongjie and his wife, I'll go see what happened."
Although Grandpa Wei is quite old, he walks with considerable strength. Perhaps due to his military service, Grandpa Wei looks quite energetic.
When Old Master Wei arrived, several people had already gathered at the gate. They were all from the compound; the guards' commotion at the Wei family's house had alerted those living nearby that something had happened.
Looking at the motionless person lying on the ground, Old Master Wei's hands trembled slightly. When he approached and saw the face clearly, he took a step back and almost lost his balance. Every part of the face was mangled, but how could his grandson not recognize him? This was his second grandson, Wei Zilin.
The guard notified the military doctor in the compound, who arrived together with Wei Xiongjie and Zhao Lihua. Zhao Lihua burst into tears upon seeing the person lying on the ground, crying and shouting, "Zilin, Zilin, who was so cruel as to beat you like this!"
The medic crouched down to examine Wei Zilin and confirmed that he was breathing. However, upon seeing the injuries on his face, the medic frowned. He noticed bloodstains on Wei Zilin's hands and trousers. The medic tried to pull Wei Zilin's hands and discovered that they were severed—in fact, both hands were severed.
The military doctor examined Wei Zilin's legs again and confirmed that both legs were broken. It's unbelievable what kind of person could beat someone to this extent; it seems they wanted to cripple Wei Zilin.
Grandpa Wei looked at the military doctor and asked, "How is Zilin now? Is his life in danger?"
The military doctor hesitated, then said, "Old Wei, your grandson is still breathing, but his hands and legs are broken. You should take him to the hospital quickly and see if you can save his hands and legs."
The army doctor's words were a bolt from the blue for the three members of the Wei family; they stared in disbelief, unable to comprehend that Wei Zilin's arms and legs had been broken.
Finally, Wei Zilin was sent to the military general hospital, where the doctors examined him and shook their heads. He had been beaten far too brutally; it was a brutal beating, leaving no room for mercy and designed to kill.
The doctor came out and looked at the three members of the Wei family. "The patient's hands and legs are all broken. The injuries on his face look serious, but they are only superficial. They are not as serious as the injuries to his hands and legs. The only way to fix the broken bones is through surgery, but all of these procedures are risky."
"We cannot guarantee the patient's recovery or whether they will return to their pre-injury condition. There is also a possibility that they may become lame. You, the family, should discuss these matters. If surgery is required, we should arrange for a doctor as soon as possible; delaying it for too long is not good for the patient."
Since the wound was already severed, surgery was the only option, and the Wei family agreed to it. However, before the surgery could be arranged, the police arrived first.
