The next day, Su Xingran, who had just arrived at the hospital, didn't go to her consultation room as usual. Instead, she went straight to the hospital director's office. The director was somewhat surprised to see Su Xingran there, wondering what was wrong, since the young woman hadn't come to see him individually since she started her internship at the hospital.
Su Xingran went into the office and came out about half an hour later. No one knew what Su Xingran said in the office, but when she came out, the heaviness on her face from yesterday was gone.
The hospital director sat motionless in his office chair for a long time. On his desk lay a voluntary application form, already filled out and signed by someone. Looking at the form, the director sighed deeply, took the hospital's official seal from a drawer, and pressed it down.
Shen Qiu was already troubled by the meeting, but the dean told her that it had been resolved. Since it was already resolved, there was no need to discuss it with the other doctors, since these matters were confidential to begin with.
Shen Qiu was puzzled as to how the hospital director had resolved the issue. She wanted to know, but the director didn't give her a direct answer. He simply told her that someone had volunteered to participate, thus solving the problem of the hospital needing to send a surgeon.
Su Xingran went to work and came home every day as usual, diligently doing her job. This continued for a week, after which Su Xingran stopped coming to work at the hospital.
Su Xingran didn't go to work that day and stayed home, having meals and chatting with Huang Zhenhua and his mother. Su Xingran simply told them that she had a day off, since she had never asked for leave since she started her internship.
Around 10 p.m., Huang Zhenhua and his mother had already gone back to their rooms to rest. Su Xingran's room door opened, and Su Xingran, wearing a cotton coat, carrying a backpack and a medicine box, came out.
To avoid disturbing Huang Zhenhua and Huang Ma, Su Xingran tiptoed outside the courtyard. The main gate couldn't be opened; if it was, no one would close it from the inside. Su Xingran chose to go through the side gate, locking it behind her. Both her master and Huang Ma had keys to the side gate.
Returning to the main entrance from the side door, Su Xingran bowed deeply to the closed gate and then bowed again in the direction of her home. Straightening up, she walked with her back ramrod straight towards the spot she had agreed upon with the dean.
Su Xingran arrived at the place she had agreed upon with the dean, where a car was already parked. The dean got out of the car, looked at Su Xingran carrying a backpack and a medicine box, and patted her on the shoulder.
Su Xingran got into the car and sat in the back seat, while the hospital director sat in the front passenger seat. The car started and headed towards the military base. Su Xingran and the other medical staff followed the national medical supply vehicle, escorted by soldiers, to their destination.
Upon arriving at the military base, the dean's car was parked outside. Su Xingran got out of the car, and the dean followed suit.
The dean looked at Su Xingran and said, "Comrade Su Xingran, please be careful after you go to the front line. I wish you a safe return." The dean stood up straight and saluted Su Xingran.
Su Xingran also stood up straight and saluted the dean. "Dean, I will be careful. Thank you for seeing me off. Please go back and rest early."
Su Xingran handed her pass to the guard at the military base entrance. After confirming the pass was valid, the guard saluted and let Su Xingran in.
The dean watched Su Xingran, carrying her backpack and walking forward with firm steps, a relieved smile on his face. But the thought of what he would face tomorrow gave him a headache.
That day, Su Xingran went to the dean's office. The dean asked her with some surprise, "Comrade Su Xingran, what brings you here?"
