After Su Xingran completed her one-year internship, Dean Sun and Shen Qiu asked her to take the medical licensing exam. If she passed the exam with good results, she could be promoted from intern to full-fledged physician.
Su Xingran lived up to expectations and obtained her medical license with excellent exam results. She then transitioned from an intern to a full-fledged doctor at the hospital.
Every time there was an exam, Su Xingran would return to school to take the exams with her classmates. Her grades were consistently excellent, always ranking first in her class. If the school principal hadn't been concerned about not issuing graduation certificates too early, he would have simply given Su Xingran a diploma and called it a day.
As Gu Zhang, Su Xingran's instructor, put it, he was embarrassed to call this student his own. Because this student could teach him, the instructor, and knew more professional knowledge and practical skills than the instructor himself.
Even during her holidays, Su Xingran would still help out at the pharmacy. Many people, seeing her face featured in the news and newspapers, now knew that this female doctor was proficient in both traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine.
Newspaper articles described how Su Xingran used traditional Chinese medicine to stop bleeding and provide stimulant anesthesia for soldiers on the battlefield, and Western medicine to treat their external injuries, such as suturing wounds and surgically removing bullets.
Unable to find Su Xingran at the pharmacy, the patients went directly to the hospital to see her. For a time, Su Xingran was seen by both traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine doctors. The hospital, unable to devise a solution, simply allowed Su Xingran to continue seeing patients in this manner.
Just before the hospital closed for the day, a bloodied and wounded patient was brought in. The scene was a nightmare for anyone watching. The patient was covered in knife wounds, each one deep enough to expose bone. No one dared to say whether he was alive or dead.
Shen Qiu took the injured person in; in this situation, the only option was to send them to the emergency room for hemostasis and suturing surgery. Su Xingran, seeing the situation, also stayed to help.
Shen Qiu and Su Xingran were ready and went into the emergency room. The two worked together to deal with the bleeding first. After the bleeding stopped, they cleaned and disinfected the wound, and then they stitched it up.
Looking at the six or seven wounds, each roughly the same length and depth, Su Xingran and Shen Qiu exchanged a glance. Both saw surprise in each other's eyes; what kind of person could control their wounds like that?
Because of the numerous wounds, including one on her head, it took Su Xingran and Shen Qiu over three hours to completely stitch it up. With so many wounds and so much blood loss, no one could guarantee her survival.
As Shen Qiu and Su Xingran walked out of the emergency room, a couple, around fifty-five to sixty years old, greeted them. The woman cried and asked, "How is my son? Can you save him?"
Looking at the woman who was crying uncontrollably, Shen Qiu said, "The injured man has too many knife wounds, each one deep enough to see the bone. He also has a knife wound on his head, but it's possible that something stopped it, making the head wound much less severe."
"We have stopped the bleeding and cleaned the wounds, and even stitched them up. The patient lost so much blood and had so many wounds, so we can only proceed with the treatment as it comes. The patient is currently unconscious, and we cannot guarantee his life or whether he is in any danger. We will observe him inside for now, and then transfer him to a ward depending on his condition."
The woman wanted to say something more, but the man next to her pulled her back. Shen Qiu and Su Xingran had been busy for several hours and hadn't even had a bite of dinner. They would have to stay tonight to look after the injured person in case of any emergencies.
Su Xingran returned to the consultation room and took a bag of biscuits from her backpack for Chen Qiu. These were biscuits Su Xingran had prepared herself, to tide her over when she was too busy to eat a proper meal. Just as Chen Qiu was about to open the biscuits, footsteps sounded outside.
Shen Qiu and Su Xingran looked towards the door of the clinic. A tall, handsome man appeared in the doorway, carrying some things in his hands. Su Xingran looked at the newcomer, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes.
Su Xingran blurted out, "Gu Moli, what brings you here? When did you get back?"
