Gu Moli sat on the stool opposite the delivery room door. His eyes were fixed on the door; he had only glanced at the two babies briefly earlier. Memories of him and Su Xingran flashed through his mind.
Gu Moli sat quietly like a statue at the entrance of the maternity ward. Family members of pregnant women about to give birth passed by, and seeing Gu Moli staring at the delivery room door, they couldn't help but want to go up and offer a few words of comfort.
Zeng Huilan sat to the side, and she could tell that her son-in-law was genuinely worried about her daughter. Her daughter's parents-in-law were the same; they were also very protective of their daughter-in-law. Zeng Huilan was grateful that her daughter, Ranran, had found a good family to marry into, so she wouldn't have to suffer the hardships she had endured in her youth.
Finally, the delivery room door opened again, and a nurse pushed Su Xingran out in a wheelchair. Gu Moli jumped up from the stool and quickly walked to Su Xingran, who was being pushed by the nurse. Zeng Huilan also walked to Su Xingran's side. Looking at her pale-faced daughter, she felt terrible.
"Ranran, are you alright? Is anything bothering you?" Gu Moli squatted down in front of Su Xingran and asked. Gu Moli looked at Su Xingran's pale face and how she seemed completely exhausted, and felt a pang of pain in his heart.
Zeng Huilan also asked, "Ranran, how are you feeling now? Is your wound still very painful?"
Su Xingran smiled at Zeng Huilan, "Mother, I'm fine, just a little tired. Thank you for your hard work, Mother."
It was only when Su Xingran gave birth that she truly understood how difficult it had been for her mother to give birth to her. Her mother's health had been damaged during childbirth, and even after she recovered, neither she nor her father wanted any more children. Her parents said that having her was enough, and her mother said that as long as she was safe and sound, that was all that mattered.
Su Xingran saw Gu Moli standing guard outside; a nurse had just gone in to tell her. Gu Moli sat outside, his eyes fixed on the maternity ward door. He sat there quietly, motionless.
Su Xingran smiled and said to Gu Moli, "I'm fine, everything's alright. Where's the baby? Did Mom and Dad take him to the ward? Have you seen the baby? Congratulations, Comrade Gu Moli, you've become a father."
Gu Moli stood up and took the handle of the wheelchair from the nurse. He leaned down and pushed the wheelchair while saying, "I saw the baby. The mother and others took the baby to the ward. I asked them to take the baby to the ward first. Congratulations to you, Comrade Su Xingran, on becoming a mother."
Gu Moli pushed Su Xingran to the door of the ward. The people inside saw Su Xingran return and quickly made room for Gu Moli to push her in. Gu Moli pushed Su Xingran into the ward, stopped beside the bed, and reached out to lift Su Xingran from the wheelchair onto the bed and lay her down.
Liang Yun and the others gathered around, asking Su Xingran how she was feeling and if she was hungry. Su Xingran said she felt fine, just a little tired, and didn't want to eat anything for the time being.
After seeing the two children, Su Xingran was exhausted and sleepy, and quickly fell asleep in bed. Gu Moli and Zeng Huilan remained in the ward. Liang Yun went back to ask Hu Ma to cook some more chicken soup and also to take some clothes back to wash.
Gu Moli told Zeng Huilan to rest while he came to see the child and Su Xingran. It was already past midnight, and Zeng Huilan had been taking care of Su Xingran all this time, which must have been exhausting for her.
Zeng Huilan fell asleep on the bed next to him, and Gu Moli took a stool and sat between the child and Su Xingran. Gu Moli would look at Su Xingran for a while, then at the two children, a sense of satisfaction and happiness welling up inside him. Having these three people in his life was the greatest happiness he could have.
