The head of obstetrics rushed over and found that Su Xingran's water had broken. He quickly asked Gu Moli for help to take Su Xingran into the delivery room. Su Xingran had told Gu Moli that he didn't need to go in to give birth; he could just wait outside.
Once inside the delivery room and lying on the delivery bed, Su Xingran experienced intense abdominal pain. She felt as if the baby inside her was trying to push out. The doctors and nurses were all in position. The head doctor's examination revealed that Su Xingran's cervix was already fully dilated to ten centimeters.
The head of midwifery said to Su Xingran, "Dr. Su, you are about to give birth. Please cooperate with our instructions to help the baby be delivered safely."
Su Xingran didn't want to speak at this point, but simply nodded to the doctor who was speaking to indicate that she understood.
A large crowd had gathered outside the delivery room, all of whom had rushed over after being notified by phone. Among them were Su Xingran's mentor, Huang Zhenhua; her father-in-law, Gu Junru; Huang's eldest and second sisters-in-law; and Xiao Xue. Gu Moli, Zeng Huilan, and Liang Yun were also already at the hospital.
Gu Moli stood at the door of the delivery room, hoping that Su Xingran and the children were safe and sound. Su Xingran wouldn't let Gu Moli go in, and since he couldn't see what was happening inside, Gu Moli's eyes were red with worry.
Inside the delivery room, Su Xingran began to give birth. Following the instructions of the head of midwifery, she pushed when necessary and relaxed when appropriate. With the head of midwifery's announcement, "The baby is here," the first child was safely delivered.
The nurse took the baby aside to clean it up. The head of the obstetrics and gynecology department said to Su Xingran, "Dr. Su, there's still one more baby. You need to keep trying. Let's work together to help the baby be born safely as soon as possible."
Sweat and tears blurred Su Xingran's vision, and she endured the pain without crying out, so as not to worry or frighten her family waiting outside.
Those outside the delivery room heard a baby cry from inside. Since Su Xingran was the only woman in the delivery room at that moment, they knew a baby had been born.
Gu Moli clenched his fists tightly. There had just been a cry, and there was another child inside Su Xingran's belly. He hoped the second cry would come soon.
Ten minutes later, a second cry finally came from the delivery room. The people outside breathed a sigh of relief, now only waiting for the doctor to come out and announce Su Xingran's condition.
About thirty minutes later, the delivery room door opened, and the head of obstetrics and a nurse came out carrying babies. The head of obstetrics said, "Dr. Su has safely delivered twins, a boy and a girl. The boy weighed 4 pounds 8 ounces, and the girl weighed 4 pounds 6 ounces. I'm holding the girl, and the nurse next to me is holding the boy."
Zeng Huilan and Liang Yun took the baby from the doctor and nurses. Gu Moli asked the head of the midwifery, "Doctor, how is my wife's condition now? The baby is out, why isn't she out yet?"
The head of the delivery team nodded in satisfaction and said, "Dr. Su is safe and sound. She just had her tear stitched up and will need to be observed in the delivery room. Once everything is alright, the nurses will bring her out. You take the baby back to the ward and take good care of the baby. Someone stay here and wait for Dr. Su to come out."
Upon learning that Su Xingran was safe and sound, Gu Moli breathed a sigh of relief. He thanked the head midwife, had his family take the baby back to the ward, and planned to wait for Su Xingran to come out alone. However, Zeng Huilan was also waiting for Su Xingran to emerge.
