Chapter 28: Awakening (Part 1/2)

Su Xingran was sleeping the whole time. Her mother went into the room to check on her several times, but seeing that she was sleeping soundly, she remembered what Uncle Huang had said: she was just tired and would wake up after she had slept and rested enough, so she didn't make a sound to wake her up.

Su Xingran didn't wake up until the morning of the third day. She was a little dazed when she woke up. She sat on the bed for about ten minutes and remembered that she had woken up from the nightmare and then fallen asleep again.

She didn't know how long she had slept, thinking it was the next morning. When she got up, her legs were sore and weak that she almost fell to the ground, but luckily she realized what was happening and fell back onto the bed to avoid it.

The commotion caught the attention of Su's mother, who was doing needlework inside the house. Hearing the noise coming from Su Xingran's room, Su's mother thought that it was possible that Ranran had woken up, so she immediately put down her needlework and went into the room.

Seeing Su Xingran sitting on the edge of the bed, Su's mother quickly went over. "Ranran, you're awake! Is anything bothering you? Are you hungry?"

Su Xingran pulled her flustered mother back. "Mom, I'm fine, just a little weak and a bit hungry."

"I'll go get you a bowl of millet porridge. I don't know when you'll wake up, but I've been cooking some millet porridge every morning for the past two days. You can eat it when you wake up. You stay in your room, I'll go to the kitchen to get the porridge."

A moment later, Su's mother came in carrying a bowl of millet porridge. "Ranran, the porridge isn't too hot anymore; it's perfect to eat now. You've been sleeping for three days; you must be starving."

Su Xingran was a little confused. She thought she had slept for a day and a night, but it turned out she had slept for three days. She was quite a heavy sleeper.

However, during the three days that Su Xingran slept, the whole village was abuzz with news of her and those people from the old house. Based on what the villagers who had gathered outside Su Xingran's house said, everyone knew that Old Man Su, along with his wife and eldest son and his wife, had come to bully Su's second son's family.

They pressured Su Lao Er and his daughter to help Dr. Huang take Su Lao Er's daughter, Su Wenli, as his apprentice. Su Lao Er's daughter refused because Dr. Huang had said he would only take one apprentice. Su Lao Er continued to pressure her to give up Dr. Huang as her master to Su Wenli.

The Su family drove Su's second daughter, who was still recovering from a head injury, to the brink of a mental breakdown. She became mentally unstable and started acting like the Su family were thugs who had come into the house to bully her.

In the chaos, the Su family, in an attempt to capture Su Lao Er's daughter, all four of them ganged up on her. As she dodged, the four chased after her and a fight broke out. For some reason, Su Lao Man, Su Lao Po, and Su Lao Da's wife started fighting each other.

After being stimulated, Su Lao Er's daughter fainted and fell into a coma. Su Lao Da insisted that they had beaten Su Lao Er's daughter and demanded compensation or that Dr. Huang become Su Wenli's apprentice.

The whole thing was about the Su family coming to their door to cause trouble, trying to ruin the reputation of Su's second daughter so that Doctor Huang would expel her from his apprenticeship and revoke her title as his disciple because of her tarnished reputation. This was all so that their daughter, Su Wenli, would be able to recognize Doctor Huang as her master.

The villagers were abuzz with gossip, saying they'd never seen such shameless people. They said that as parents, they treated their son badly, only bullying, oppressing, and exploiting him. Now they weren't even sparing their granddaughter.

The Su family was furious when they heard the gossip outside. It was clearly that evil spirit Su Xingran who had hit them, but it turned out they were fighting each other. The second son was really lying through his teeth and throwing mud at them.

It's all their fault for running away in fear that day when they thought of that evil spirit, making them seem guilty in the eyes of the villagers. Now, when they try to explain, they're only ridiculed, and people tell them to stop targeting the second son's family and causing trouble.

That evil spirit was truly powerful; she had bewitched everyone in the village, making them believe in her and help her. Old Mrs. Su's eyes darted around, and she came up with a plan. She was determined to subdue that evil spirit and prevent her from causing further harm.
