Chapter Fifty-Five: Hunting Wild Boars in the Mountains

All the windows were replaced with glass, making the main room and inner room bright and airy. If we had enough money, we would have wanted to put glass in the new house as well. All the door bolts were replaced with locks, so you can't get in without a key.

"The roof beam will be erected the day after tomorrow. Gangzi, you and Dongnan are going into the mountains tomorrow to see if you can hunt wild boars. Beinan and Xinan are going to the river to fish." Grandma Yan picked up her pipe and said casually.

Yan Xiaoqiang nodded, went to the kitchen to find two machetes, took a whetstone, and went to the yard to sharpen the knives. Xuemei looked at Dongnan with some worry, but Dongnan was eager to try. Hunting wild boars, how exciting! He glanced at Zhongnan and asked if he could take Zhongnan with him.

The next morning, Xuemei and Cuihua got up early to prepare food. Today, Cuihua made steamed buns, which were soft and delicious. She also put a little sugar in the bamboo tube, because climbing mountains takes effort.

Everyone in the house knew that Yan Xiaoqiang was taking Dongnan into the mountains to hunt wild boars today. Tang Jianjun came over and said, "Count me in." A few of my childhood friends looked at their work and decided that three of them would stay and finish their work later to go home, and come back earlier tomorrow. They should have enough time.

What started as a group of two people and one wolf turned into a group of six and one wolf. Village Chief Ma ran and shouted, "Wait for me! Wait for me!" Well, Yan Xiaonan was secretly laughing his head off. Seven people—perfect for making the Seven Heroes of Jiangnan!

Bei Nan and Xin Nan really wanted to go hunting wild boar together, but Yan Xiaoqiang gave them a good scolding, saying that if they didn't catch any fish that day, they wouldn't get dinner. The two of them dejectedly picked up their fishing rods, nets, and buckets and headed to the river, praying that they could catch a big fish.

Xuemei kept making mistakes today. She washed clothes and ended up with the sleeves on, and she could smell the burning smell when she made a pancake. Cuihua understood Xuemei's worries and told her not to forget about Zhongnan. Hearing about Zhongnan, Xuemei finally cheered up. It would be much better to have a wolf around.

Yan Xiaonan calculated the time and figured that Dongnan and the others should be halfway up the mountain by now. He climbed onto the kang (a heated brick bed), closed his eyes, and his consciousness began to spread into the mountains. One person, two people, four people, where were the others? Suddenly, he heard Zhongnan's barking. This wolf cub really thought he was a dog, barking incessantly.

Following Zhongnan's call, his consciousness spread over and he saw his father, Dongnan, and the village chief surrounding a wild boar. Zhongnan pounced on it from time to time, biting the boar's neck, but it was too small and had to escape after taking a bite.

Enraged by Zhongnan's attack, the wild boar charged towards Yan Xiaoqiang. Yan Xiaoqiang spun around to avoid the boar, and his machete struck the boar in the middle of its body.

The wild boar, in pain, went berserk. The four people who caught up from behind saw this and quickly climbed a tree. While the wild boar was disoriented and unable to attack, Zhongnan pounced on it again and bit its neck, this time holding on tightly.

Wolf teeth are very sharp. The wild boar was bitten by Zhongnan and spun around on the spot. Dongnan saw that his chance had come and picked up his machete to slash at the wild boar. Dongnan originally slashed from behind, but the wild boar suddenly turned around and bit at Dongnan with its tusks.

Upon seeing this, Yan Xiaoqiang and the village chief rushed over without hesitation. The four people in the tree also disregarded their own safety and jumped down, almost breaking their legs in the process. However, the distance was too great, and they couldn't reach them in time to provide assistance.

Southeast closed his eyes, realizing he was doomed. Yan Xiaonan moved her hand and slapped the wild boar's head. With a snap, half of the boar's head was smashed, and the tusks touched Southeast's waist. It was just a centimeter away from piercing his skin.

The seven men watched as the wild boar crashed to the ground. Southeast's machete was chopping at the broken boar's head. They looked at Southeast again, then cheered and lifted him up, tossing him around a few times. It wasn't until Zhongnan barked urgently that they realized what had happened.

Looking back at why Zhongnan was yelling so urgently, it turned out that another wild boar had appeared. This time, the group was really not afraid. With Dongnan there, why should they be afraid of a wild boar? Dongnan's legs started to go weak. No way, he really didn't know what was going on.

This wild boar is much bigger than the previous one. They must be a married couple. Since you killed your wife, I'll kill you instead.

The wild boar's fierce little eyes looked over one by one, and it paused for a moment when it saw Zhongnan. But what's there to be afraid of for such a small wolf cub? I'm not afraid even if your father comes.

The wild boar had a clear goal: this guy had killed his wife, so he'd kill him first. In an instant, the ground shook, and the wild boar began to run southeast.

Everyone looked at Southeast with admiration. "Good lad, it's up to you now!" Southeast was so anxious he almost wet his pants. "It's not that I don't want to run, it's that my legs are too weak to run!" In the blink of an eye, the wild boar's tusks were poked at Southeast's waist again.

Southeast instinctively raised his hand, trying to push the wild boar away. When his hand touched the boar's head, there was a loud bang, and half of the boar's head was smashed open, causing it to fall down. Southeast could no longer stand and collapsed to the ground, staring incredulously at his hand. What had happened to his hand?

Seeing that Dongnan really couldn't get up, Yan Xiaoqiang quickly carried him on his back, called to Zhongnan, and said they would go down the mountain first. The two wild boars weighed almost 700 jin, and the five of them should be able to handle dragging them down the mountain.

After walking for a while, Dongnan felt his legs regain some strength. He patted his father and told him to get down. Yan Xiaoqiang asked Dongnan what happened, but Dongnan shook his head. He didn't know either; he just touched the wild boar and it died.

Yan Xiaoqiang nodded, knowing that this must have been done by his daughter. He was lucky to have such a wonderful daughter; otherwise, it would have been fortunate if only two of the seven people could have escaped. From that moment on, Yan Xiaoqiang felt a sense of awe for the mountain and repeatedly warned Dongnan not to go up the mountain on his own.

Southeast nodded. He wasn't stupid; why would he go into the mountains? Nan Nan must have saved him today, and his father should know that too, otherwise how could he be so calm?

Zhongnan suddenly lunged into the bushes, and a series of clucking sounds came out. The father and son, just like Zhongnan, lunged into the bushes, and another series of clucking sounds followed.

Yan Xiaoqiang caught two, Yan Dongnan caught one, and Yan Zhongnan caught one, making a total of four pheasants. Today's mission was completed perfectly. Thank you, Yan Xiaonan, my sweetheart. Thank you, Yan Xiaonan, my good sister.

The two people and the wolf ran quickly home. Xuemei was standing at the gate of the yard, looking towards the mountains. This was the ninth time she had come out today. Sure enough, she saw Zhongnan running ahead with a woof. She was overjoyed. The two behind him were her father and Dongnan. She hurried to meet them. "Ami Doufu, you're finally back safely."
