Chapter 240 Strolling in the City (2/2)

Lu Xingxing wasn't home, and neither was Panpan.

Qiao Wanyue pushed open the fence gate, put down the bowl, and began looking for Lu Xingxing.

Finally, Lu Xingxing was seen at Yang Lin's door.

She put her hands on her hips and cursed at Old Lady Yang and Yang Lin.

"Lu Xingxing, you bastard, I'm your grandma."

Lu Xingxing sneered, "I'm a stone monkey, I sprang from a crack in a rock, I have no father or mother, and you have no father or mother either and no manners? Let me tell you, you old hag, if you push my child again, I'll break your old bones and feed them to the dogs."

The mother and son were trembling with fear.

"Sister-in-law, what brings you here?" Lu Xingxing turned around and saw her sister-in-law. Her expression changed instantly, turning from gloomy to sunny.

Qiao Wanyue didn't even glance at them. "I came to see you. I remember you have tomorrow off. I'll take you and your sister-in-law into town tomorrow. Winter is coming soon, so we can buy some fabric to make winter clothes."

Lu Xingxing thought for a moment, then said, "Okay."

"I want one too." Yang Lin's eyes darted around.

They remember the good times but not the bad.

Lu Xingxing glanced at him, instinctively wanting to refuse, but then thought better of it, "Okay, I'll make it and bring it to you."

Grandma Yang was suspicious.

Could this girl be plotting something? She was as fierce as a tiger for snatching a piece of jerky from a child, yet she agreed to make a cotton-padded coat for Yang Lin?

But Grandma Yang wouldn't refuse. Her family was very poor recently, and she probably wouldn't be able to afford a new cotton-padded coat this year. If Lu Xingxing made a new one for Yang Lin, wouldn't the cotton-padded coat be made for her?

After leaving Yang Lin's dilapidated thatched hut, Qiao Wanyue finally spoke up, "I think Yang Lin is so thin he's practically skin and bones. What's Old Lady Yang doing here?"

Lu Xingxing sneered, "What else could he do? He instigated Yang Lin to steal my wages, which led to me beating him up. When he saw Panpan take a piece of jerky and fight with the child for food, I scolded her."

Qiao Wanyue's expression was indescribable.

Qiao Wanyue had some ready-made cotton-padded clothes and quilts in her space, which she had plundered from the Qiao and Yang families. She disliked these two families and did not plan to use their quilt covers, but instead planned to tear off some of the backings to make new ones.

Cotton is hard to buy on the market; it's in limited supply.

Sister-in-law Lu also planned to make cotton-padded clothes for the children and for her eldest son. Adults need more cotton, but she only had a limited number of cotton coupons and could only buy two jin.

Qiao Wanyue then suggested buying it on the black market.

They first went to the largest shopping mall in the county town, where Lu Xingxing was dazzled by the wide variety of fabrics available.

She fell in love with the gray printed fabric at first sight and couldn't put it down.

Qiao Wanyue pointed to the pink print, "You're too young for that kind of fabric. This one is more suitable for you and Panpan."

A struggle flashed in Lu Xingxing's eyes. She subconsciously felt that she was too old and not suitable for pink.

But she was only in her early twenties.

Qiao Wanyue and Sister-in-law Lu both persuaded Lu Xingxing, and in the end, Lu Xingxing gave up the gray color and bought a five-foot pink floral print.

Qiao Wanyue also bought a lot of fabric.

Sister-in-law Lu bought two satin sheets.

The three of them left the department store with a full haul and planned to buy cotton on the black market.

The three of them were too conspicuous, so Qiao Wanyue and Lu Xingxing suggested that they split up.

The three of them disguised themselves and split up.

Qiao Wanyue wore a square scarf on her head, covering her face, and walked towards a black market in the east.

She wandered into an alley and bumped into someone.

Gao Yan was helped out of the alley by his younger brother, his face showing the satisfaction of someone who had just experienced the pleasures of life.

She bent over, adjusted her headscarf, and, supporting her back, passed by him with an air of old age.

Gao Yan recognized the figure before him and suddenly called out, "Stop!"
