Chapter 47 Going to the Captain's House (1/2)

Lu Rong took the pig's leg and left home.

Yang Lin muttered behind his back, "He has good food but doesn't eat it himself, he's not filial to his elders, and he doesn't even know to give it to his old flame."

Upon hearing this, Lu the eldest's face fell. "Dad, what are you saying?"

"Am I wrong? We haven't even eaten the pork leg yet, and your mother hasn't had any either, and she's already taken it away."

Old Master Lu laughed loudly, "None of your business. That's my sister-in-law's. She can do whatever she wants. You better behave yourself, or don't blame me for turning against my own family." The eldest son of Lu couldn't stand his own father more and more.

In the end, I simply finished clearing away the dishes and went to the kitchen to help my wife tidy up.

Yang Lin was left alone at home, sulking.

Lu Rong and her mother-in-law knocked on the door of the brigade leader's house.

The captain's wife opened the door. "Lu Rong..." Seeing the pig leg she was carrying, the captain's wife's heart skipped a beat. Could it be that Lu Rong's family had come to make Old Yang make a mistake?

She blocked the doorway and asked warily, "What's the matter?"

Lu Rong smiled and said, "The brigade leader helped my family today, so I came to thank him."

She didn't reveal her purpose, but walls have ears.

The team leader's wife breathed a sigh of relief; at least they weren't there to make Lao Yang make a mistake.

She stepped aside, but her gaze remained fixed on her thighs. Although her family was better off than the others in the village, it was only slightly better. They had plenty of corn and sweet potato flour, and meat was only a treat for Old Yang when he got his salary.

She had only ever seen pork legs like this at her wedding.

The brigade leader's family had already eaten, and the brigade leader was drinking tea in the main room when he saw Lu Rong and his new wife bringing over a pig's leg. His first reaction was the same as his wife's: Would Lu Rong let him make a mistake?

Lu Rong chuckled and handed the pig's leg to the brigade leader's wife, "Sister-in-law, this is for the kids to have a treat."

The team leader's wife didn't dare to answer; she subconsciously looked at the brigade leader.

The captain frowned. "Lu Rong, what are you doing? Your family isn't wealthy either. I'm just doing what I should do." At the same time, he felt a little guilty. In the past, because of their family ties, he had often spoken up for Yang's mother.

Lu Rong didn't care about those things; she knew she hadn't been good at handling things before.

"Captain, we're here on business."

Lu Rong glanced at the children in the main room, and the brigade leader understood immediately, "Xiao Tie, take your brother and sister out to play."

As the children left, Lu Rong went straight to the point and repeated his daughter-in-law's words.

"Was it your idea, or your daughter-in-law's?" The captain's dark eyes glanced at the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law.

He already knew the answer in his heart. After living in the same village for so many years, he knew Lu Rong's personality all too well. He was an extremely proud yet weak person who couldn't even be controlled by someone like Yang Lin. How could he possibly have such a big idea?

Qiao Wanyue pulled Lu Rong aside, and the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law sat down.

"Uncle, the auntie who sold me the job works at a state-owned factory. She suggested I become the liaison. I thought of this: in our village, every household grows vegetables. They not only can't eat them all, but they also feed the surplus to their chickens and ducks."

But city dwellers had no vegetables to eat, so we sold these dried vegetables in the city and even further afield. This gave us a side income, and city dwellers were able to eat vegetables too.

"Isn't this speculation and profiteering?" the brigade leader's wife asked with some concern.

Qiao Wanyue smiled and said, "Auntie, the team collects vegetables and then trades them with the state-owned factory. I checked the newspapers and the documents that were issued. This is not speculation. This is a side business that our team has developed on its own. We might even get praise from the commune."

"Can you guarantee it's reliable?" The captain's eyes lit up.

Qiao Wanyue said, "Aunt Li's husband is a leader in the textile factory."

With just that one sentence, the captain's doubts were dispelled.

The textile factory employs thousands of people. Even if there's no market for their vegetables, as long as they buy them, their produce won't be considered a complete loss.
