Chapter 7 Going Home 2

She learned excellent culinary skills from the chefs when she became a food presenter. She didn't plan to hide it. Since she intended to live here, cooking some delicious food for everyone wouldn't be tiring. Besides, the Qiao family's current problem was that they didn't have any money.

Once her skills are revealed, she can lead her family to prosperity, even if it's just setting up a street stall, it's better than staying home and doing odd jobs. She won't say this now, but once they see her skills, she'll let her abilities speak for themselves.

"Mom, I'm all grown up now, not as impulsive as I was when I was little. Teach me how to cook, so I won't starve in the future!"

Li Meihua poked her daughter's forehead with her hand:

"What nonsense are you talking about, you brat? Stop talking about death all the time. If something happens to you again, I won't be able to live."

Qiao Xiaoni hugged her arm and leaned on her shoulder, showing no disgust at the smell of sweat and dirt on her body; to her, it was the smell of her mother.

"Okay, I won't say things like that again. Don't be angry anymore, I won't cause any more trouble."

"Okay, tonight I'll teach you how to make vegetable dumplings. Don't cause any trouble, just watch from the side."

"Mmm." Qiao Xiaoni quickly agreed, afraid that the old lady would change her mind.

Qiao Haisheng watched with great joy; his daughter had finally grown up, a fact that brought him immense satisfaction. He picked up the bamboo again and continued weaving baskets, planning to sell them in the fall to supplement the family income.

Seeing her daughter acting coquettishly, Li Meihua thought about how her daughter was already 18 and should be taught some housework, otherwise what would happen after she got married? Subconsciously, she felt that her daughter's education was over after taking the college entrance exam; she definitely wouldn't get into university. She planned to keep her at home for a year or two, look around for suitable young men, and if she found one, she'd marry her daughter off to him, and she could live a peaceful life. The scar on her daughter's forehead had faded considerably; it was barely noticeable when covered by her bangs.

As dusk approached, Qiao Dashan and Qiao Xiaoshan returned from work, their blue clothes covered in dust, as were their faces and necks. Qiao Xiaoni brought them towels and fetched a basin of water for each of them.

The two brothers were flattered, as they had never seen their sister so diligent before.

After washing his face, Qiao Dashan smiled and asked, "Xiao Ni, why are you so diligent today?"

Qiao Xiaoshan couldn't help but chime in, "This seems to be the first time my sister has fetched water for us to wash our faces! I'm wondering if it's raining red today?"

Qiao Xiaoni put her hands on her hips: "You two are going too far! You're so tired, what's wrong with getting you a basin of water? Why are you both so talkative?"

The two brothers were amused and burst into laughter.

Li Meihua stood at the kitchen door and shouted at them, "What are you all arguing about? Why don't you go back inside and rest? Aren't you tired after working outside all day?"

"Dashan, go and bring your wife back. I'll have your dad bring you some more food later."

Qiao Dashan tossed the towel to his sister: "Okay, I got it. I'll go pick up my wife now. Bring me extra food tonight."

I only ate three cornbread buns for lunch, and my stomach was growling. They also brought me extra hot water.

Li Meihua waved her hand: "Alright, I know, you can go ahead without worry!"

Qiao Xiaoni said to Qiao Dashan, who was turning to leave, "Brother, be careful on the road."

Qiao Dashan turned around and said, "I understand. Be good at home. After I get paid in a couple of days, I'll give you some money to buy some fabric and make you a new shirt."
