Li Meihua hurriedly carried the jar back into the house. In her eyes, oil was more important than life itself; what would happen if it were stolen?
Everyone waited for about an hour. Just as Qiao Xiaoshan decided to go out to look for someone, Qiao Dashan returned carrying a dead rabbit.
After entering the house, Qiao Dashan said to everyone, "I did a lot of work today, and even though I rushed, I still came back late." He then shook his hand, "But there was an unexpected surprise: I found a rabbit on the way."
I don't know how it died by the roadside, so I brought it home.
Qiao Xiaoshan slapped him hard on the shoulder, "Brother, you're awesome! You've got some good luck today! You actually found a wild rabbit."
Qiao Xiaoni squatted down and examined the rabbit. "It wasn't poisoned; it must have died from an external impact."
Li Meihua smiled and said, "After we finish eating, we'll skin the rabbit and stew it for you when you come back tomorrow at noon."
"I think it's a good idea. These past few days have been like Chinese New Year for our family. It's so great to have meat every day!" Qiao Xiaoshan said with a smile.
...
After dinner, everyone went back to their rooms to rest.
Qiao Xiaoni felt sticky and needed a shower. Remembering there was no bathhouse at home, she thought about how in the summer, people usually bathed at the stream in the evening. She decided to discuss it with her sister-in-law when she returned tomorrow, suggesting they go bathing together in the river that evening; it would be safer if they went together.
After a good night's sleep, before dawn the next day, Su Chenhao drove Su Chenqiu to the Qiao family home, both of them still with dew on their faces.
Su Chenqiu's willingness to come along was entirely due to the delicious fried dough sticks he had last night. It made him completely forget all his reservations.
At the same time, he wanted to see what Qiao Xiaoshan's sister looked like and how she could make so many delicious things.
Hearing voices outside, Qiao Xiaoni woke up immediately, grabbed her clothes, put them on, and hurriedly went out.
Li Meihua got up earlier than anyone else; the porridge in the pot was already cooked, and she was ladling it into a bowl.
When Qiao Xiaoni entered the room, she immediately asked, "Mom, what time did you get up? The porridge is already ready."
Li Meihua stopped what she was doing. "It's your first day setting up a stall. How can you work on an empty stomach? You'll have energy when you're full. Making some porridge won't be tiring. I'll go back to my bed to rest after you leave."
Qiao Xiaoni's stomach immediately began to protest her hunger as soon as she saw the white porridge.
"Then I'll go wash my face first, and then come back to help you."
"Go ahead!" Li Meihua turned around and continued serving rice.
Qiao Xiaoni carried a basin to the yard to fetch water and happened to see the Su brothers.
Su Chenhao pulled Su Chenqiu over and said, "This is my younger brother, you can just call him Xiaoqiu."
Qiao Xiaoni looked at the little boy in front of her. He didn't look much like Su Chenhao. His complexion was a bit yellow, and at first glance, he seemed rather thin.
"From now on, you can call me Sister Xiaoni. If there's anything you don't like, you can tell me."
Su Chenqiu sized up the girl in front of him. She was fairly good-looking, and her smile was beautiful, giving off an indescribable warmth. He liked her at first sight. If she could become his sister-in-law, his brother wouldn't have to go out to work.
My brother has told him a lot about the Su family these past few days; she's very capable.
"Okay, I'll call you Sister Xiaoni from now on."
Qiao Xiaoni looked at Su Chenhao and said, "I'll go wash my face first. Breakfast is ready. You take your brother in to eat, and then we can get busy."
