Ignoring his fatigue, Lu Yang immediately started his car and followed Zheng Yuntao's three-wheeled vehicle to Qi's mother's sister's house.
It was almost noon when they arrived at their destination. Qi's mother pulled Qi Kang out of the car and walked to the door to knock.
Through the black iron gate, you could clearly see that a lot of grass had grown in the yard, as if no one had taken care of it for a long time.
Lu Yang had a bad feeling. Soon the door opened and a heavily made-up woman walked out.
Mother Qi excitedly called out, "Big Sister!"
What brings you here?
The heavily made-up woman was very surprised. After speaking, she looked at Lu Yang and the others with suspicion in her eyes.
Mother Qi wiped away her tears and said, "My husband's father is gone, and my brother-in-law is always trying to take over our house!"
"I have no other choice but to come to you for help."
Tan Xia frowned. She had written to Qi's mother to show off how much better her life was, not to visit relatives with them.
But now that Qi's mother has come knocking, and there are outsiders watching, she can't just kick her out directly.
So she said coldly, "You may come in first."
Qi's mother wiped away her tears and pulled Qi Kang to go inside, but then she remembered Lu Yang and the others.
So she stopped, looking somewhat troubled.
Zheng Yuntao took out a pen and paper from his bag and wrote down a series of contact numbers.
"Sister Tan, this is our village's phone number. If you need any help, just call me. Lu Yang's friend is my friend."
Qi's mother took the paper and put it in her pocket. Qi Kang immediately said, "It's already noon, let's go to a restaurant to eat. It's on us. We're so grateful to the brothers for helping us find Auntie this time."
Cheng Lin raised an eyebrow and muttered under his breath, "This kid's pretty savvy."
Lu Yang sighed: "My father has always been in poor health, and my mother either runs away from things or cries when she encounters problems, so of course he matured early."
So he waved and said, "Let's get in the car and go. We've been to a few restaurants, and the food was pretty good."
Qi Kang immediately smiled and asked Qi Xia, "Auntie, do you want to come along?"
Tan Xia was somewhat surprised: "You still have money to treat people to a meal?"
Qi's mother smiled and was about to bring up the matter of selling the house when Qi Kang interrupted, "My dad has saved some money, not much, just two thousand yuan."
Tan Xia pursed her lips, reverting to her indifferent demeanor, and waved her hand, saying, "You guys go ahead, I won't go."
"The rent is expensive around here. Look south, the houses are cheaper there!"
After saying that, he locked the door with a snap and went back without looking back.
Tan Xia started crying again, weakly saying, "What should we do? Should we go back?"
She said this to Qi Kang, clearly realizing that Tan Xia was unreliable.
Qi Kang sighed like a little adult and said, "Why go back? Find a job here. Doing business here is much better than back home."
Zheng Yuntao chimed in, "That's right. As long as we work hard, it's not hard to make a living here."
"But you absolutely must not look for houses in the south; that area is notoriously dirty and chaotic."
Qi Kang pulled Zheng Yuntao aside and said, "Brother Zheng, let's go eat first."
After everyone got into the car, Lu Yang immediately started the engine and drove to the restaurant he had visited with Zheng Yuntao earlier.
During the meal, Zheng Yuntao recommended several places to stay to Qi Kang, and also recommended schools to him.
Qi Kang, Lu Xing, and Lu Yue were in the same grade. If his father hadn't died, he would have started junior high this year.
Qi's mother listened absentmindedly, her face full of worry, looking as if the sky was about to fall.
Lu Yang comforted her in a low voice, "Sister Tan, if you spend your money wisely, you'll have enough to live on until Qi Kang comes of age."
Qi's mother nodded slightly. She stopped crying and wailing because she still had this money.
Lu Yang roughly guessed that without his reminder in his previous life, the money his family earned from selling their house would have been spent shortly after they moved south.
That's why Qi Kang ended up in such a miserable state; he considered it an act of helping his good friend.
After the meal, Lu Yang and his group helped Qi Kang and his group rent a house, which also belonged to Zhengjia Village.
After settling them in, Lu Yang and Cheng Lin went to pick up some goods before heading back.
Cheng Lin, with a cigarette dangling from his lips, sat in the passenger seat and said with a smile, "I never realized you were so kind-hearted."
Lu Yang replied dismissively, "I get along well with that child."
After returning to the provincial capital, the two first went to the post office to transport the goods they had previously mailed from Guangzhou to the Qi family's house.
As they were moving the goods, the red-faced men ran over, one of them pointing at Lu Yang and yelling, "What the hell are you doing?"
Who are you?
Lu Yang's mind raced, and he immediately realized that this guy was Qi Kang's uncle.
The red-faced man roared, "This is my brother's house!"
After Cheng Lin finished unloading the goods, he wiped his sweat and said, "Didn't your brother die?"
“His family sold the house to my older brother. From now on, this house has nothing to do with your Qi family. Don’t delay our work.”
The red-faced man's mind went blank for a moment, and he exclaimed excitedly, "I don't believe you! Show me the property certificate!"
"Where's Tan Juan? Where did that bitch hide?"
Lu Yang's eyes turned cold; he had seen plenty of people who profited from the misfortunes of their descendants.
In the past, especially in families without sons, or with very young sons, it was easy for the family to be exploited to the point of having no descendants.
However, it is quite rare for someone to call their own siblings a slut in front of outsiders.
Especially since Lu Yang had noticed along the way that Qi's mother was weak-willed but still gentle, it was really too much for her to be scolded like that.
So Lu Yang retorted directly, "How would we know? Anyway, we exchanged money for the house. If you're trying to cause trouble, we'll call the police!"
The red-faced man clenched his fists so tightly they cracked, but he didn't lash out. He turned and stormed off.
Cheng Lin watched him leave with a cold eye, and said with some unease, "That guy has a face full of scars, he's obviously not a good person, he'll definitely come back to cause trouble."
After locking the door, Lu Yang told Cheng Lin to get in the car and said, "I'm a local, I'll definitely find someone to scheme against us."
"Be extra careful. Once we've cleared out all this stock, we'll head back home for the New Year immediately."
Cheng Lin nodded, a cigarette dangling from his lips, and went to set up a stall with Lu Yang.
"It's you! It's been so long since I've set up my stall! The clothes you sell are all so stylish, people ask me where I bought them when I walk down the street!"
As soon as the stall was set up, a woman in her thirties walked over excitedly.
Hearing him say that, many people gathered around.
Lu Yang said gratefully, "Big sister, one word from you is more effective than ten words from me. I'll give you a dress; you can choose whatever you like."
The woman in her thirties' eyes lit up, but she still waved her hand and said, "That won't do, you brought this all the way back from the south!"
As she spoke, she picked out a maroon sweater and insisted on paying for it.
Lu Yang gave her an extra scarf and said, "We'll be setting up our stall here again tomorrow. If you have time, come back and see if there's anything you like."
After everyone left, they gradually got busy, and the two of them were both a bit overwhelmed.
So Lu Yang didn't notice Lu Yao and Lu Qing walking over at all, while Lu Yao naturally recognized Lu Yang at a glance.
