Brother Ma was startled and instinctively looked towards the source of the lightning, nearly suffocating from fright.
There's no way around it; anyone who suddenly sees a giant cat head in the dark would have their heart race. He was lucky to survive, he was scared to death.
Seeing that the intruder had discovered him, Silver stopped concealing himself and flicked his tail, sending several bolts of lightning flying towards the intruder.
Its older siblings had taught it that water conducts electricity; otherwise, it wouldn't have waited until the group was soaking wet before launching its attack.
Ma Ge instinctively conjured an earthen wall to block the lightning, but his underlings suffered the consequences. They were all electrocuted and lay on the ground, their bodies blackened, their fates unknown.
Brother Ma breathed a slight sigh of relief. He could always find another underling, as long as he was alright.
He rolled and slid to the wall, trying to escape through the window he'd come from, but instead bumped into a hard object. He reached out and touched it; it was icy cold. There was another creature with supernatural abilities in the room!
Ma Ge's heart skipped a beat. He pressed his back against the wall, scanning left and right with his eyes, trying to find the opponent who had unleashed the ice-based ability. However, the opponent seemed to have vanished without a trace, as if they could disappear into thin air.
All of this happened in the blink of an eye. While Brother Ma was looking for someone, a bolt of lightning struck his head without warning.
Ma instinctively wrapped himself in stones, and the lightning struck the stones with a muffled thud. He couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief; the physics he had learned at the base had indeed come in handy—stones really don't conduct electricity at room temperature.
Looks like I can't be lazy when I'm in my academic classes anymore!
However, Silver is also a well-educated cat and knows the art of feinting. While using lightning to lower the enemy's guard, it secretly unleashes a wind blade, unexpectedly reaping the enemy's life when they are complacent about dodging the attack.
It's hard to believe that Ma Ge, who was known as the number one expert in City A and who looked down on ordinary people, had his last thought before he died: to study hard.
Silver lowered its tail listlessly. It had thought Silver was a formidable fighter, but it couldn't even last three rounds. On second thought, well, at least it would be quiet and wouldn't wake its older siblings.
Unbeknownst to her, Banxia woke up as soon as Ma Ge and the others approached the hotel, and Nanxing woke up as soon as she moved.
The two listened intently in the darkness as Gold and Silver worked together to kill the enemy before finally falling asleep again.
The next morning, Banxia pretended to be completely unaware as she walked out of the room, then feigned surprise as she looked at the charred corpses scattered on the floor: "Was there an intruder last night?"
Yinzi nodded reservedly.
Banxia chuckled to herself, hugged the cat whose eyes were unconsciously filled with anticipation, and rubbed its forehead against the cat's forehead: "Yinzi protected my older brother and sister, that's great!"
Yinzi instantly transformed from a cool prince into a clingy princess, shoving his chin into his sister's hand for her to scratch: "Meow meow meow!"
I'm on night duty again tonight!
Jinzi looked at Yinzi with a resentful expression. It had clearly done its part, and its sister deserved praise, but it couldn't beat the little cat who loved to compete for attention!
No wonder the book says that cats and dogs are natural enemies; kittens are really nasty!
Jinzi's resentful gaze almost pierced through Banxia's back. After comforting Yinzi, she hugged Jinzi, Tuanzi, and Heizi one by one: "Thank you for your hard work on night duty. Thank you for protecting your older brother and sister!"
Jinzi became happy and circled Yinzi several times with a smug look on his face. Yinzi, annoyed, raised his paw to scratch the dog, and Jinzi ran into the house in a flash.
Yinzi looked at the door with disdain: Ha, cowardly dog!
Nanxing had already chopped off the corpse's head and thrown it out the window, and of course, he didn't forget to dig out Ma Ge's crystal core.
He rinsed the crystal core clean and handed it to Banxia: "Here you go, wife. I just looked at the corpses. The male survivors from yesterday are all inside. They probably brought people here specifically to take revenge on us."
The people he brought were incompetent; they died before even seeing them.
Banxia nodded without any surprise: "Okay, let's make breakfast, then we can go out and advertise."
The men were looking at her with intense malice, and she wasn't stupid; she noticed it long ago.
The reason we didn't immediately take action yesterday was simply because we knew these people would definitely come again, and we were also too lazy to openly clash with the authorities.
After breakfast, the two said goodbye to Su Yao and the others, and went out with the printed flyers, a megaphone, and gold and silver, while Tuanzi and Heizi stayed at home.
"Buying crystal cores! Buying gold! Ten catties of rice for a first-grade crystal core... three catties of rice for one gram of gold..."
"Hey—" one of the survivors nudged his companion, "Did you hear the horn?"
He was filled with doubt. Could he have gone mentally ill? Otherwise, how could he hear someone recklessly blasting loudspeakers in the city?
"I...I think I heard it too..."
Their companion looked equally puzzled. The two exchanged glances, and the first to speak tentatively said, "If what that loudspeaker said is true, then we don't have to worry anymore..."
His companion chimed in at the opportune moment: "...Let's go take a look?"
Such conversations kept happening among the survivors who braved the cold rain to search for supplies in the nearby streets.
Banxia pinched Yinzi's fleshy pads, somewhat helplessly: "Why aren't they coming over?"
Nanxing casually killed a zombie that had come looking for him by the sound: "Maybe they're afraid we'll use a trade as bait to set a trap and steal our supplies?"
Banxia waited patiently for a few more minutes, but still no one came. So she simply raised the megaphone and shouted to the surroundings: "Those who need it, come to this building to trade. Absolutely no cheating, young or old!"
She pointed to a shopping mall with transparent glass, and asked, "Now we can see if there's an ambush, right?"
Nanxing cooperated and led the boat to the shopping mall. The two of them tidied up the place casually, laid a thick plastic sheet on the ground, and then laid out grains, meat, clothes, and various common daily necessities. They also put up pre-made advertising signs next to them.
The billboard was simple, listing the exchange rates between crystal cores and gold and various other resources, exactly three times the official rates.
The two waited for another ten minutes or so, but no one came. Just when Banxia thought she had been too naive, five women who had been together walked in hesitantly.
Banxia breathed a slight sigh of relief; it was good that someone had come. However, her expression remained unchanged, as if she wasn't the one who had been anxious just moments before.
“Um…” A woman hesitated for a moment, then took out a level-one crystal core from her pocket and handed it to Banxia. “I want to exchange it for rice.”
Nanxing readily handed her the ten-pound bag of rice: "There's a scale over there. You can weigh it if you're not sure."
He pointed to three electronic scales placed side by side on the side.
The woman was completely stunned by the surprise. With a bewildered look on her face, she followed Nanxing's instructions and weighed herself. It was exactly ten pounds, no more, no less.
She excitedly pulled a handful of crystal cores from her pocket, ready to exchange them for something else, when she saw her companions, who had just come with her, swarming towards the shopkeeper.
"Boss, I want ten pounds of rice, ten pounds of flour, and one pound of exotic beast meat..."
"Boss, I want this quilt..."
"Boss, I want this menstrual cup!"
...
Banxia busied herself organizing the order: "Everyone's here, line up and come one by one!"
