Chapter 176 Snow

The group chose a particularly good spot, with a small hill two or three hundred meters high behind them, and the snow was at least two or three meters thick, so even if they accidentally fell, they wouldn't get hurt.

Banxia stepped into the snow: "It's too loose, we need to compact it."

She took out several wooden planks from her storage space, and the others took them and started working.

Before the apocalypse, even wearing professional cold-weather gear and playing in the snow outdoors at minus seventy degrees Celsius would be a suicidal act for ordinary people, but for the few who had evolved, playing for a short period of time was not a problem.

"Smack!"

A snowball flew straight at Banxia. Banxia quickly bent down to dodge it, and at the same time grabbed a handful of snow, rolled it into a ball, and threw it at Fang Yunyun.

Fang Yunyun was still smiling smugly when she was hit squarely before she could react.

She snorted twice, grabbed a handful of snow in each hand, and threw it back at Banxia. However, the snowballs, which did not form a solid ball, scattered in the air, and Su Yao and Nanxing, who were working diligently, were caught in the crossfire.

"A snowball fight?"

Su Yao threw down the wooden plank, grabbed two handfuls of snow, made them into balls, and, taking advantage of Cai Yuan and Zhao Xuan's inattention, shoved them at the two men.

Cai Yuan was completely confused and stood there dumbfounded.

Seeing Su Yao laughing so hard he bent over, Zhao Xuan quickly grabbed two handfuls of snow to retaliate, throwing one back at Su Yao and the other at the instigator, Fang Yunyun.

Fang Yunyun didn't expect Zhao Xuan to be so good at grasping the key points, and immediately retaliated with two snowballs.

A few furry puppies running around nearby saw their owner playing around and excitedly joined in the fray.

Instead of making snowballs, they simply pawed at the ground with all four limbs, and for a moment the whole sky was filled with falling snow, almost making people think it was snowing heavily.

Su Xiao, Banxia, and Nanxing were caught in the crossfire. The three of them exchanged a glance and then made a snowball to attack the mischievous furry creature.

For some reason, Su Xiao's snowball went astray and hit Su Yao on the head.

Everyone was wearing thick clothes and hats, and since the snowball wasn't very tightly packed, Su Yao didn't feel any pain. He just felt annoyed at being hit by his younger sister, so he angrily made a snowball and threw it back.

Unexpectedly, the attack veered off course and hit Banxia instead. Nanxing, protective of her own, immediately rolled a ball and threw it back.

Once again caught in the crossfire, Banxia looked at Yinzi, whose eyes were filled with guilt. She pounced on Yinzi, knocking it to the ground, and grabbed its big head, forcefully moving its chin a few times: "You little rascal! You're not allowed to use your powers during a snowball fight!"

Silver blinked innocently; the kitten couldn't understand what her older sister was saying.

Jinzi, who was always eager to please, thought that tackling was a new game. With a quick twitch of her eyes, she tackled Nanxing, who was trying to pull Banxia to the ground, and started rubbing against her frantically.

The orange cat and the pear blossom cat followed suit and pounced on their human.

For a moment, the entire hillside was filled with screams.

The snowball fight and tackling activities lasted for half an hour, finally ending at Banxia's call: "Don't lie on the ground for too long, you'll get frostbite!"

Given their current tolerance to low temperatures, frostbite is unlikely for now, but frostbite is very likely.

"Frostbite?" Fang Yunyun was from the South and had only ever heard of these two words in her life; she had never seen such a thing in person.

Banxia brushed the silver coins off her and asked, "Sister Yunyun, are your hands hot? Are they itchy?"

If your hands are itchy and hot after playing in the snow, there's a 90% chance you're going to get chilblains. Chilblains aren't fatal, but they're prone to recurrence and can be incredibly itchy. I remember having chilblains in my past life.

Fang Yunyun felt it for a moment: "It's a little hot, but it doesn't itch."

Banxia took out a box of frostbite cream and threw it to her: "Just to be on the safe side, Sister Yunyun, you should apply the frostbite cream first."

She thought for two seconds, then took out a few more boxes and threw them to Su Yao and the others. Then she opened a box for herself and Nan Xing as well.

After applying frostbite cream, the group continued to press down the snow. About an hour later, they finally managed to create a ski area that was suitable for skiing.

"Ahem," Su Yao put his fist to his mouth as a microphone, "The first Alpine Skiing Competition is about to begin. All participants, please listen to my command: three, two, one!"

Nanxing took the lead and slid off, followed closely by Zhao Xuan and Banxia.

Seeing that he was a step behind and couldn't catch up with Nanxing, Su Yao simply stopped moving and continued to use his fist as a microphone, acting as a guest host: "Now in first place is contestant Nanxing, and in second place is contestant Zhao Xuan..."

Su Xiao and Cai Yuanjian, who were in the last two places, were getting further and further away from the people in front of them. In a panic, they both sped up, but unexpectedly, they collided. Su Xiao, who was thinner, was knocked away.

Su Yao, disregarding his role as host, burst into laughter, pounding the ground in his hands.

Su Xiao kicked the ground twice in annoyance, and Cai Yuan, suppressing a laugh, reached out to pull her up: "Are you alright?"

"Brother Yuan, I'm fine." Su Xiao rolled over and got up. "I'm going back to beat Su Yao to death!"

"Pfft!" Cai Yuan couldn't help but burst out laughing.

After a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon of fun, the group rode their bikes back to the city.

It was hot pot again that evening. The broth had just boiled when Yan Ning knocked on the door with her things in hand: "Oh, I've made it again."

Su Yao took the things from him and said politely, "Since you've come all this way, why did you bring anything?"

"I can't keep eating your food," Yan Ning waved his hand, "otherwise, where will I put my face if word gets out?"

Su Yao led the person to the table and asked, "Would you like something to drink?"

The table was covered with food, including common items like meat, vegetables, and meatballs, as well as alcoholic beverages.

“I don’t drink alcohol,” Yan Ning said, slightly surprised. These people were even wealthier than she had imagined, and her plans were probably going to fall through. “I’ll drink peanut milk.”

Nanxing poured her a glass of milk and sat down to eat in silence.

They spent most of the afternoon playing outside. Although they had a lot of fun, their bodies were all ice-cold and they desperately needed to eat something spicy to warm up.

Yan Ning noticed that the others didn't seem inclined to speak for the time being, so she didn't be tactless and started chatting after they had finished eating.

What do you think of the S City base?

Banxia and the others exchanged glances: "Very good, it's the best-managed base we've seen along the way."

They weren't being deliberately flattering; compared to the infiltrated A City base and the dilapidated, poorly managed small base, the S City base was nothing short of a paradise.

Yan Ning stared intently into Banxia's eyes: "I'm sure you've guessed what I'm going to say, so I won't keep you in suspense any longer. Are you willing to stay and help me protect the survivors at the S City base?"

Of the seven people, Banxia wasn't the most talkative or the most assertive, but she inexplicably felt that the other six cared most about her feelings.

Banxia declined, saying, "We're used to a free and easy life."
