Yan Ning had expected this, and upon hearing it, she felt a sense of disappointment, as if the dust had finally settled.
She was still unwilling to give up and wanted to persuade her again. But seeing that Banxia's eyes were firm and there was no room for negotiation, she pondered for a while and then solemnly asked about another matter: "After more than half a month of observation, do you think I am trustworthy?"
Seeing the undisguised astonishment on everyone's faces except for Banxia, he smiled and explained, "Although you guys were very careful when gathering information, you were full of flaws in the eyes of us trained professionals. If I hadn't stopped you, you would have been caught by the patrol team long ago."
After leaving the city, Banxia and Nanxing, under the pretext of selling mutated beast meat, wandered around the city every day, secretly inquiring about the ordinary survivors' true opinions of Yan Ning. They thought they had hidden it well, but little did they know that Yan Ning already knew everything. Hearing this, they couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed.
Yan Ning smiled magnanimously: "Although I don't know why you think I'm trustworthy, I'm glad to have gained your initial approval."
A hint of worry lingered in her eyes. The group had braved the freezing temperatures to travel from City A, thousands of miles away, to City S. Their mission was undoubtedly significant, and it seemed a tough battle was about to begin.
Banxia and the others exchanged glances: "Let's eat first, and we'll tell you everything after we finish eating."
They were afraid that if they didn't finish the rest of the food quickly, Yan Ning would get too full.
After finishing their meal, Banxia and the others turned on the projector and played the confession of Sakura that they had secretly recorded.
Banxia and the others watched the video again. Although those little cherry blossoms had no ashes left, they still felt a tingling sensation in their teeth, not to mention Yan Ning, whom they saw for the first time.
She took a deep breath, trying to suppress her raging anger, but she couldn't hold back even a fraction of it. She paced around the living room more than ten times before finally managing to calm herself down: "Thank you for your hard work. I will handle this as soon as possible. Do you have any other evidence?"
For some reason, she felt a strong liking for Banxia and a deep sense that she could trust her. But this matter was too serious, involving a great many people, some of whom were even high-ranking officials. Without solid evidence, she would find it difficult to convince her superiors.
Banxia made it clear beforehand: "Yes, but without third-party supervision, I can only show you a piece of evidence to prove that we did not lie, but I cannot let you take it away alone. I hope you can understand."
Yan Ning is trustworthy, but what if something goes wrong along the way and the evidence falls into the wrong hands? Wouldn't all their hard work be for nothing? So it would be best to have a trusted third party present, so that both sides can check and balance each other and cooperate to resolve this matter perfectly.
Yan Ning nodded understandingly: "I understand. I will ask someone you can trust to supervise."
Banxia nodded and took out the list and confession handwritten by Xiaoyinghua from her spatial storage, handing them to her.
Yan Ning took the book and read it with a serious expression, muttering to herself, "They've actually infiltrated to this extent..."
Banxia coughed lightly: "We have already cleaned up the parasites in City A, but we cannot rule out the possibility that some have slipped through the net."
"Thank you!" Yan Ning handed the evidence back to Banxia. "I'm leaving tomorrow and will be back in about a month. You guys..."
"We're waiting for you to come back."
After seeing Yan Ning off, Banxia and the others began their hibernation. Occasionally, Han Biao would take a break and bring his wife and children over for a visit, adding a touch of liveliness to their simple lives.
"Eat and sleep, sleep and eat," Su Yao burped, clutching his round belly. "My abs are almost gone."
Upon hearing this, Banxia subconsciously glanced at his belly, then looked at Fang Yunyun and the others who were eating with their mouths full of oil, and found that everyone had indeed gained weight.
She thought for a moment and suggested, "Shall we go out and have some fun?"
Su Yao counted on his fingers: "What to do? We had barbecue today, went sledding yesterday, built a snowman the day before yesterday, had a snowball fight the day before that... We've done all of that, it's boring."
Banxia paused for two seconds: "Then let's get to work and get the mutated animal meat sorted out."
"Huh?" Su Yao asked, puzzled. "They've already been peeled and cleaned, what else do we need to do with them?"
Banxia recalled the methods the survivors of her previous life had used: "Making sausages, cured meat, pickled meat, jarred meat, dried meat, smoked meat, meat floss..."
The survivors tried everything to preserve their food for longer, and what she described were just the most basic methods.
Nanxing fed the grilled meat skewers into Jinzi's mouth, who was staring at him expectantly: "The temperature is too low, so we can't make sausages, cured meat, or dried meat. Smoked meat requires fresh cypress branches, which we don't have. We can try making jarred meat and meat floss."
Zhao Xuan thought for a moment and said, "How about we build a heated kang (a traditional Chinese bed-stove) in an empty room and bake some dried meat, dried vegetables, or dried fruit to make snacks?"
Banxia raised her hand: "I have cement and bricks, but who among you knows how to build a kang (a heated brick bed)?"
The group looked at each other and asked, "Did you learn this on the spot?"
A kang (heated brick bed) needs a certain level of insulation, which requires not only bricks, stones, and cement, but also insulating soil, specifically yellow clay. However, no one had any of this, so in the end, they could only make do with the soil from Banxia's space.
After the kang (heated brick bed) was made, the group spent two more days drying it over a fire. Once it was dry, they divided the work and began processing the fruits, vegetables, and meat.
Banxia volunteered to take over the meat-cutting job. With a swift motion of her right hand, she cut the meat into neat rectangular pieces, and then sliced them evenly into thin slices.
Nanxing and Suyao then took over the next step, which was steaming and adding seasonings.
Fang Yunyun and Su Xiao next door also took on the slicing work, one of them slicing fruit and the other of vegetables.
The group was busy at home, and the aroma of the food seemed to have an irresistible magic, making several families in the neighborhood itch with envy.
