262 Deep in Memory
Wei was exhausted after a long day. After dinner, she listened to her mother-in-law's long talk about family affection, and then held each of the children for a while until they all fell asleep before going upstairs.
By this time, I was so tired that I lay in bed and didn't even want to move a finger.
He had already taken a shower early in the morning and was lying in bed reading a book. He wasn't usually a diligent person, but Li Wei had forced him to bring back a professional book. Since he had brought it back, he figured he shouldn't let his wife down, so he read most of it.
Looking up at Li Wei's listless appearance, the man couldn't help but say, "If you're really tired, just go to sleep. Stop messing around with your beauty treatments." This had been Li Wei's daily routine since she came back. Li Wei's explanation was that since she could no longer read books to improve her inner self, she would improve her outer appearance instead.
Li Wei stirred and said weakly, "I'm going to take a shower. Ugh, I'm so sleepy."
Da Luo was so tired from reading that he put down the book, got up, and easily picked her up: "Alright, I'll help you wash. I'm tired just looking at you."
Li Wei found the swaying motion quite comfortable and hummed twice in agreement, but added a condition: "It's just a bath, so don't do anything indecent, okay?"
The man looking up at the sky said, "Well, you can't entirely blame me for this. Didn't you seduce me?"
Li Wei was furious: "Put me down! When did I seduce you? I'm crazy enough if I don't seduce you. If I really did seduce you, I'd go completely insane! For the sake of my family's stability and unity, put me down. I'll walk myself! Honestly!"
Actually, Li Wei was a little embarrassed and angry. To be honest, she did seem to have seduced someone, but she couldn't admit it, hehe!
Da Luo hurriedly said, "Alright, alright, I'll seduce you, but you seem to be getting a little too easily seduced."
Li Wei jerked her head back, trying to get up and walk. Da Luo quickly changed his tune: "Okay, okay. You're not allowed to flirt with me. It was me who couldn't resist the temptation. Waaah~~" A delicate hand slapped her face, covering her mouth as well.
While silencing her, Li Wei said, "Watch your words. Someone as beautiful as me, with a face as lovely as a flower, would I need to seduce you? You're the one who comes running up to me with your eyes sparkling. You cling to me like glue. That's how it is. Remember that!"
When I got into bed after my shower, my eyes were sparkling. I wasn't a grown-up anymore; I looked like a beautiful young lady. I fell asleep almost the moment my head hit the pillow.
The man was quite satisfied. He tucked Li Wei into bed, then took out a large towel to dry her hair, followed by a small hairdryer. He was busy and happy, showing no signs of fatigue. After fiddling with it for a while, he finally finished. Then he tidied himself up, kissed Li Wei's exposed cheek, and snuggled into bed, pulling Li Wei into his arms. He fell asleep with a smile on his lips.
The next day, there was no need to go out to pay New Year's visits. Li Wei felt completely relaxed. After breakfast, she realized there really wasn't much to do that day. Da Luo also went out; apparently, some classmates and friends were having a gathering at Yang Shouchun's place. He wanted to take Li Wei along, but Li Wei, having just relaxed, didn't want the hassle. So Da Luo had to drive off alone.
But I also made plans to visit my third senior brother's place tonight. Yesterday, my third senior brother came over to wish Grandpa Cheng and Lao Luo a Happy New Year. They didn't run into him. And Xiao Meng and the others too. It seems they've been spending the last couple of days at my third senior brother's house.
Seeing that nothing was wrong, Li Wei noticed that some of the Luo family's business associates had come to pay their respects for the New Year. Her in-laws were taking care of them, and she was just a maid serving tea and water, which was of little use. After thinking about it, she said goodbye to her mother-in-law and took her daughter back to her parents' home.
Luo Yi and Luo Er had Sister Wei and Auntie, so she was at ease. Bringing such a large entourage would seem a bit too overwhelming, and with the child away, her in-laws and grandmother felt empty. The family couldn't help but call the Li family or send someone to inquire about the situation, causing everyone to feel uneasy.
So Li Wei simply packed light, carrying only her daughter and a small bag, and went to her parents' home alone.
My aunt had just packed her things and was about to go home. Her mother-in-law was also worried that the house wasn't lively enough, so she asked her to bring the child over early. Many friends and relatives also wanted to see the child, as having a child in the house would bring more life to the place.
Auntie took Dingding away, and Xiaoya was taken to Grandma's room by her mother. Li Wei went with them to chat for a while, and then, remembering that she hadn't seen Li Lin, she asked her mother, "Where are my dad, my grandpa, Xiaolin, and Xiaohui? Did they all go out?"
Grandma Li Wei stepped forward and said, "Your dad and grandpa went back to town. Your grandpa went to see some of his friends, and your dad did the same. Xiaolin and Xiaohui were contacted by their classmates. It seems that some of them will come over to play when they come back tonight. Check your room and see if there's anything you need to tidy up. You might need to use it tonight."
Li Wei thought about it and realized that she really had a lot of things to pack in her room. Last time she eloped with Da Luo, it seemed that apart from money and valuables, she didn't take anything of average or moderate value with her. She could take advantage of the free time to pack up and take everything with her after the fifteenth. There were some clothes that she really liked, so it would be good to take the opportunity to organize them.
She stopped eating, left the little girl with her mother and grandmother, got up, kicked off the kang (heated brick bed), put on her cotton slippers, and went upstairs to her room.
Li Wei's room is still the same as before. It is always cleaned and there is not much dust.
Li Wei opened all the wardrobe doors and looked through them from head to toe. She had imagined there were quite a few clothes she liked, but when she actually saw them, she realized they weren't that great. So after tidying up for a while, apart from a silk padded jacket and a few coats, which were all of high quality and wouldn't go out of style, there wasn't much she really wanted. As for some small scarves, she picked out the ones with patterns and styles she liked and put them in a box. There weren't actually many items, just everyday clothes, pants, and skirts. She knew they wouldn't fit her now.
Then there were some accessories. The most valuable ones had already been taken, but the rest were all quite nice and suitable for everyday wear. Li Wei planned to let Li Lin choose first, but it seemed that Li Lin had already made her selections. She decided to wait until Li Lin returned before making any decisions.
Finally, Li Wei pulled out a small sandalwood box from a cabinet under the dressing table, then took out a small key stuck to it from under a drawer, and with a snap, opened the small lock, revealing something unremarkable inside.
I have two diaries from when I was in elementary school, and a small box filled with little notes. That's all I have.
Don't underestimate it; it's all of Li Wei's secrets.
I haven't opened it much over the years. I thought it was buried in the dust of history and would never be opened in my lifetime. But now that it's in front of me again, it's quite a unique experience.
There's no need to open the small box; it was just a trinket she made out of vanity. But the two plastic-covered diaries, which recorded some memories of the last and first few years of her past and present lives, are still there. If it weren't for those, Li Wei would have thought it was all just a dream. She still has a sense of unreality, but she doesn't feel as uneasy as before; instead, she feels quite at ease.
After all, she is no longer alone. There are people who need her, and she needs them. That is enough. Blindly pursuing those illusory things will only make her more confused. She doesn't need to be confused now. She should live firmly and make herself and her loved ones happy.
Now let all of this be a thing of the past. I simply sat down on the carpet and began to flip through the pages of my diary.
Li Wei started reading from the second book, which mainly contained information on beauty, fitness, diet, and even sometimes accounts of selling hair accessories. In short, it was a jumbled mess and not very coherent, but she finished it quickly.
She picked up the first book again, which contained more stories from before she started school. Li Wei felt the floor was a bit cold, so she moved to the bed, found a comfortable position, and started flipping through the pages. As she read, Li Wei's face gradually became serious. She read those pages carefully again and again. Finally, she couldn't stand it anymore, so she sat up and glanced at the bedside table. The phone was gone; she guessed that she wasn't staying there anymore and that her family had taken it away.
Li Wei couldn't wait any longer. She grabbed her diary and ran downstairs to the living room without even putting on her slippers. She checked the calendar to confirm the time and then checked the diary. She was so engrossed that she didn't even notice her mother sitting in the living room with a couple.
Cheng Min felt a little embarrassed and scolded, "This child, what are you doing acting so crazy? You're not even wearing shoes. Didn't you see your third uncle and aunt are here?" Really, even after having a child, she's still a child. Once she gets busy, she doesn't care about anything else.
This time, Li Wei noticed that it was Peach Blossom's third uncle and aunt who had come, and she quickly greeted them: "Happy New Year, Third Uncle and Third Aunt."
I smiled and put on the cotton slippers that my mom had asked the aunt to bring over.
The woman next to Li Wei was a gentle and kind woman with a rather pretty face. Li Wei later learned that this woman seemed to be an accountant at the same company as Tao Hua's third uncle, both of them employees of the banking system. However, it seemed that this woman's uncle was some kind of head at a branch of the bank, but Li Wei didn't pay much attention to the specifics.
The third aunt looked at Li Wei and smiled at Cheng Min, saying, "Eldest sister, this must be the eldest daughter. I've heard about her. Hehe, she's quite the troublemaker. Most people wouldn't even be able to get into high school, let alone university. She's certainly capable."
Li Wei -_-
Li Ma Cheng Min didn't feel that anyone was praising her daughter. She said somewhat dejectedly, "Don't mention it. She should have gotten into a better university. Her score wasn't low either, but we've never been able to control her since she was little. She insisted on going to that teacher's college. What's the point of being a teacher in the future?"
While her mother was venting her frustrations, Li Wei quickly cleared away the tea and snacks that her aunt had brought over, placed them on the coffee table for everyone, and served a cup to each of her third uncle and aunt. When she saw her mother shake her head, she didn't give her any.
Li Wei felt a tickling sensation in her heart, but her third aunt kept asking her all sorts of questions, making it impossible for her to get away.
Finally, Aunt Taohua's matter was over, and Li Wei hurriedly asked her mother, "Mom, is there a phone in any other room? I need to make a call urgently."
Cheng Min glanced at her daughter, unable to see what urgent matter she could have, and guessed it wasn't anything serious, so she said nonchalantly, "There's one in the room where your dad and I live, and another one in your dad's study. The extension phones have all been removed, since you're not home anyway."
Li Wei couldn't wait any longer: "Then, Third Uncle and Third Aunt, please have a seat. I have something to attend to, so please excuse me."
Li Wei rushed upstairs to her father's study. This was a big deal, so she had to make a grand entrance in a proper place, and her father's study was just the right spot.
